Unbiased viewpoint, Carey that much better than Ablett it's not funny, Carey best player i've ever seen by far, the guy in his prime was a supreme talent. Ablett bagged 9 in a losing GF, if Carey had've bagged 9 his side would have won, due to his ability to turn a game in 5 minutes like no-one else and his ability to make every team mate stand taller...and what a contested mark.
And if Ablett is the greatest ever, why was John Coleman FF of the team of the century and not Ablett?

Ablett played less than half his career at full forward, that would be why.
Still bagged 1000+ goals. A lot of them while playing on a wing.

Wayne Carey is undoubtably the greatest player since Leigh Mathews, as freakish as Ablett was Carey was the only player I have seen who could literally will his team to a victory. Carey was never beaten and was the most inspirational captain the AFL will see. Carey also played in the hardest position on the ground, he was also the bravest player ever constantly running back with the flight into packs and splitting them. Basically he was just a better player FULLSTOP.

Something for people to ponder.
Ablett played his first season as his teams Full Forward in 1993. At this point he was already 30+ and had already kicked just under 600 goals as a Wing,HFF player.He ended up with over 1000 goals in his career.
From 1993 he really took off though. Here are the stats:
Goal Avg: Goals in Brackets:
1993 = 7.29 (124 in 17 games)
1994 = 5.16 (129 in 25)
1995 = 5.54 (122 in 22)
1996 = 4.05 (69 in 17)
Totals = 444 goals in 81 games Avg: 5.48

In 81 games he kicked:
10+ = 7 times
5-9 = 43 times
1-4 = 29 times
0 = 2 times

Remember, the figures above were all achieved after his 30th birthday. Without these years he would still be remembered as one of the greats of the game. Those years however did exist and imo put him out in front of any other player that has played.
On top of that, he did it in a style that all other players could only dream about.

Yeah but...........Wayne Carey was like...........better...........and he was a captain...................and better.....................CAREY>>>>>ABLETT

Out of respect for the Horan family, he needs to stay out of the limelight. It must burn them up inside everytime they see him.

The death of one should not fuel the death of another.

Great little exaggeration there buddy.:thumbsu:
Or do you really believe that?:confused:

I meant Carey no matter how bad a day he was having would try all day and usually through superior fitness and skill overwhelmed his opponant the same cannot be said for the mentally fragile Ablett.

If u wan't to look at impressive stats how about Lethal Leigh over 900 goals and he wasn't key position.

That's a bit hard when you are called Gary Ablett. If I cut my leg in a lawnmower accident tomorrow I doubt if I'd make the papers. He didn't ask to be named in Geelong's team of the century.

Look at the amount of time his name is mentioned on this board, on the radio, in papers or on TV. You can't just blame the media, as us gossipers want to hear about him.

What can he do about it? Shut himself off in a monastery? He's got to lead some sort of life.

And with respect to the Horan family, only they know how they feel. I'm sure they are fed up with people speaking for them, or talking about the girl's death every time Ablett's name is mentioned.

Ablett doesn't step into the limelight, it follows him around.

The fact is no one forced her to take drugs Garry Ablett is not her minder she was there by choice and must have known the risk she was taking by consuming drugs.

Ablett was ajudged to have been neglegent but what are the parents of this young girl doing while there daughter is on an all night bender with a middle aged man. I know my mum would not let me do that at 18 so for the media to blame Ablett is pretty disgraceful in my opinion.

Sorry champ but Ablett was far superior.

Nothing to be ashamed of though as he was the best that has ever played :thumbsu:
Not even the best of the modern era. Lethal, Carey..then Ablett.
Nothing to be ashamed of though, as Lethal was the best that has ever played.:thumbsu: And The King wasn't far behind.

1. When others assumed Ablett was playing on the wing. Ablett himself, probably thought he was playing CHF. Afterall he always pretty vague.

2. Some players get fined for turning up to training late, Ablett turned up for training almost half a season late and sleepy hollow rejoiced.

Out of respect to the Horan family?

Since when was he convicted of anything? If anything, Mr. Horan should take some responsibility for the way he brought his daughter up, leading to her spending nights with footballers and ex-footballers and engaging in the taking of illegal drugs.

But it is easier to blame Gary Ablett, so they do.
