News Gary Pert Has Officially Resigned (from page 9)

I think people are being a bit harsh on Pert in this thread.

Sure, it’s just so damn convenient to blame everything on the person who just left the building. But what purpose does that serve?

To the people who blame Pert for the leaks ... do you seriously believe McGuire would have kept him on as CEO of Collingwood for 10 years if he had been backgrouding the media on everything going on in Collingwood?

Collingwood has somebody with his tentacles tangled right through the media and it ain’t Gary Pert.
Unless Eddie had some evidence of Pert doing so there’s not a damn thing he could do about it. What’s he gonna do, tap Perts home phone?

Is it just a coincidence that the leaks have stopped now that he’s gone? That’s a very convenient coincidence.

Do you reckon Ed was the leak? He's certainly pulled his head in then. We're comatose quiet this off-season. And it's been great.

It could have both pert and ed for All we know, but it is strange the moment pert left, the info dried up. Interesting coincidence.

Make a joke about an unemployed, one leg Pygmy with a speech impediment.
He could agree with Trump on the whole elephant issue

Ringling Brothers is phasing out their elephants. I,for one, will never go again. They probably used the animal rights stuff to reduce costs

Just read an article that the role of CEO at SEN has been "earmarked" for Pert.
Whoops, maybe not?
Former America's Cup-winning skipper John Bertrand and ex-AFL club chief executives Gary Pert and Michael Nettlefold have dramatically been forced to quit the board of radio station SEN.
It is understood the quartet of shareholders who were forced to resign did not see the move coming by the shareholders and were caught by surprise by the decision to redirect the company.
Pert, who had been on the SEN board for eight years, had been planning to move into an executive role with SEN soon, having left Collingwood as CEO earlier this year. He had recruited Nettlefold to the board only months ago.

Several former Collingwood staff, including Pert's long-term personal assistant from Collingwood, had already moved to new jobs at the company while at least one other was preparing to move there. His son also works at the station.

Jobs for the boy(s) alive and well

That explains the motivation behind the leaks. **** me if that isn't one hell of a conflict of interest.

It makes me sick to the stomach thinking of all the strategic decisions he made or was involved in over the decade he spent as CEO! I guess it gives me hope that we can become a force again, but he was allowed to remain in the role for that long too which says a bit for the board as well...

Ideally shouldn't the role of an AFL CEO revolve primarily around the finances of the club in terms of maximising revenue (without selling our soul), minimising cost (without selling out the members/supporters), making sound investment decisions, making sure we are adhering to AFL guidelines to avoid sanction and a general balancing of the books?

It would appear that people believe Pert stepped out beyond the boundaries of his role to often and this lead to friction within other departments of the club at some stage during his tenure.

If true that's disappointing and why if can get a CEO that knows his place I'm not to worried as to who it is as a CEO really shouldn't be having any great impact on a teams performance out on the ground with the football department guiding that ship.

Think you are confusing CEO with CFO

AFL clubs who rely significantly on pokies revenue have probably gone close to selling their soul

Oh this is oh so Pert. Jobs for his mates and even his son. This is clearly how he ran Collingwood - as an unprofessional conflicted circus. Good to see his methods haven't changed.

Love your phrase - “unprofessional conflicted circus".
How can a Board member arrange to have himself appointed CEO of the same company?
