A few played on him, but as I posted earlier, it was the most unmemorable 6 goal game I've seen. All Joe the Gooses or umpire assisted.

I'm more interested who destroyed Nick 'The Wizard' Watson, 9 disposals, 0.0. I guess it was mainly Farrell.
I think it's more a case of he self destructed. Copped a bit of niggle early and spent the rest of the game doing a Tony Antrobus impersonation. w***er.

On this ‘father figure’, ‘we love him’ BS I kinda get it. I mean, for the time being they need to back their coach but also at the same time they can’t in good conscience say he’s a great coach and tactically astute, so the default is back to something he may be kind of ok at which is playing house with a group of 30-40 young men.

Thank God the overhandpassing is gone. Use it when necessary but you really want to see Rozee, Farrell, etc, giving one on ones to our forwards.

Houston, we use to have a problem and now we have a solution. His name is Rozee. Everyone is calling Rozee to half back flank. I think I called it when Houston got suspended last year and was laughed at. Great game by the captain. Gives some real class in the back half, he's not on the best player or tagger, run and carry from defence, can kick goals on the run. High intercept game. Great game.

The Buttered Hornet. Sounds ridiculous but those two combining together was irresistible. We may have found a combination that shares the bejesus out of teams. Some of their clearance work together was just phenomenal.

3rd quarter, I thought we still looked good in the third but not as intense and with a massive free kick count going against us. Bergman off also didn't help.

The main aspect of the first half was winning contests especially as a team and around the ground especially on the wings where we'd usually lose the ball but we would come out with it and find a good option going forward.

Butters ruled the first half. King Butters. If they could give him 12 coaches votes, they would. Dominant and more influential than a Kardashian. Butters crashing into Worpel on the deck was awesome.

I thought Lachie Jones was very good in the back half. Didn't fumble and starting to be more proactive and trusting his judgement. Maybe having Rozee back may help him.

If Rozee stays in the backline, we have quite a few really good kicks back there again in Rozee, Faz, Sinn with Jones getting better and Bergman getting slightly better as well. All of those guys can launch from 50 out and give us another option.

Aliir and Rat held up well in the backline. When it started to come in quicker, they looked mortal but they did pretty well. Bergman was also good down back.

Georgiades was excellent once again. Lord did enough. Richards was the surprise packet of the night in the first half. People have been getting on him for not kicking goals but he has been making opportunities and has been in the right place but other players, cough, cough, Rioli, usually blast away.

Back to the midfield. Drew was good. Wines fights hard. Lots of contests from the both of them. Mead not bad.

I'm usually against hotdogging but Rioli is such a smart player and did it at the right time to get a two for one.

The young guys looked like young guys because the vets were playing so well.

Boak looks old.
Mead is playing OK but does so in a prime role. Good is not good enough.
Who doesn't love Cockers?
It's maybe time to give Berry a run in the Magoos. Happy to see him stay in though.

In the end, when your best players play well, you're going to be in the game. They haven't fired a shot until last night so it makes sense that we looked the goods.

There are a fair few people on the forum who think our list sucks. Now, the Hokakke Hawks [thanks McQuack] might be our bunnies but we have some great players and if they are coached well, we are half a chance. I like our list.

Sack Hinkley.

Man we missed butters in those first few games, and then last week was good but looked like he hadn’t played in a while. Makes us a totally different team going forward.
Butters is a great player and of course every team plays better when their best players are out there, but this encapsulates Hinkley's teams. We shouldn't look a totally different team due to one player in or out. We should look a better version of the same team. It's another win built too much on individual brilliance, rather than system.

Somewhat going against that comment, the first half did look like there was a bit more system, but even with the laughable second half umpiring it wasn't working to the same degree after the main break. As it will be all year, no idea to what degree this was the opposition changing tactics realising they can't just be all flash, disagreement and changes between our 'co-coaches' or something else. The pessimist in me looks at the second half and sees when pressure is really applied the team once again struggled against quality opposition.

Usually when we have these 'great first half, shit second half' games, we roll into the following week, carrying on from the second half, so it's hard to have any confidence against Sydney.

The much vaunted Hawks small forwards were nowhere to be seen.

The young backline of Rozee, Farrell, Jones, Sinn, etc really did their job and the midfield helped out heaps.

Rozee to HB is a better position for him and the team. He played better and was more influential. The halfback line looked way better. The midfield balance was better (except when Wines was rucking).

Now stick with it. Unlike Burgoyne to HB which also worked but wasn't persisted with.

I even wasn't against Wines in the ruck this week. He competed and then was on the ball like a European Wasp on a picnic hot dog. I think he's almost enjoying it.

We aren't going to lose too many games when all of JHF, Butters and Rozee play well. Yesterday was the first game this year that this has happened.

JHF's last two weeks have been sublime, and Butters has had a very solid opening two weeks for him for the season and improved on last week, and Rozee had a very good game across half back so hopefully the 3 of them can continue on with this now.

Also helps when Drew and Wines have decent games too.

One of the major differences to last week was the scoreboard pressure we got from our small forwards. We got nothing last week, 3 each for our two key forwards and 3 to JHF and 1 to SPP and that was our spread of goals. This week there was much better spread with our small forwards Mead, Richards, SPP & Rioli all scoring multiple goals each.

Haven't watched yet but getting annoying (or is it PTSD??) 2015 R4 vibes from this game. Hopefully more comes of this result for our club than came of that false dawn.

Hope we get to find out what Ginni's celebration would have been.

Generally agree on that but it would be nice to have one of our players be as consistent from set shots as he is.

Yeah there were a couple of ruck contests that I completely forgot it was Wines until he quickly shifted into extractor mode after the tap.

Trying to work out why we looked so much better this week than in the earlier games. Obviously positional changes - Rozee to half back, Boak more on ball. We were very good in contested possessions and stoppage clearances, but the most under-rated improvement was the clean ball handling. Butters was very clean inside packs and damaging with his clearances; the half backs were also not as fumbly as before, and even the KPs were good. Allir and Ratuolea were fantastic, and Ollie Lord scored his goal with a clean pickup under pressure and created two more with great ball handling.

Special mention to Ollie Wines for his desperate chase on Dylan Moore in the last quarter, he ran as fast as I've ever seen him from one half-forward flank to the opposite half back flank to collar Moore when he'd been working his arse off all day as a clearance mid and back-up ruck. Wonderful stuff, it happened straight after the Mabior Chol goal with about 12 minutes left to play!

The hawks got little supply I50. Defenders had it pretty easy imo. That defence crumbles badly if the supply was good. Lets be real.
This is true for every club though. We would kill for Battle, Barras, Sicily, Weddle and they all looked like deer in headlights in the first half. No defensive group holds up against quality ball movement and proactive forwards.

Strange post. You say the umpiring wasn't that bad, then give a bunch of reasons why the umpiring was that bad. ;)
Haha, yeah not the perfect choice of words at 11.30 at night. I just meant they weren't paying incorrect decisions, it was just that they totally overlooked the same in return to us.
