I realise there is a little bit of gamesmanship at times by our players thats just experience like Bartel today, make sure he got down low when he picked the ball up Freo player took him head high. He didn't lead with his head just make sure he put himself in a good position for the Freo player to make a mistake and he did.

If we are talking the first quarter then Bartel ABSOLUTELY led with his head. That and the Sandi free kick made me sick and swearing off Aussie Rules.

...then Bartel kicked the goal and I was all YEAH CATS! FOOTY IS AWESOME!

Pendles has actually brought it into his game since around 2012, when he realised what Selwood was doing. I hate it everytime I see Pendles do it, and I don't think he deserves a free for it. Neither does Selwood. If first contact is made to the shoulder and then he brushes the tackle into his head, it's not high, it's playing for a free kick and it shouldn't be rewarded. Now, I believe that Selwood would keep doing it anyway, because it seems to be his evading technique, which is fair enough, as long as he doesn't get a free when it happens. For a guy as tough and as brilliant as he is, the wider footy public are beginning to dislike him because of this tactic. Would be great if the AFL came out and said they wont be getting frees for it anymore, but then again, people in charge of the AFL listen more to Darcy, BT, RIcho and Harley than they do the common supporter.

That's actually an excellent analysis of what he is doing (a lot of the time he shrugs it completely) and I normatively wish that it was play on when a tackle is pushed up.

I prefer league and union high tackle rules.

AFL need too investigate the Lying on Players after a FK is awarded. Crowley Constantly held up play using this tactic, thus slowing Geelongs play/momentum. Should have pinged on at least on 2 occasions that should have resulted in a 50.

Lets hope the AFL aware of this tactic and do something about it

Geelong supporters are more obsessed with Hawks than their own club. Little country cousin jealous of a big, successful city club. Must be sad to play in front of a full house of 25k though.

If by obsessed you mean 'third favourite team' then sure. As for supporter base, I don't really see how that is a dig. We are a financially successful club and if we weren't why would someone have a dig about it?

I don't like that St Kilda have a small base. I hate it. I don't like that Fitzroy had a terminally small base, I hated it. Hell I'm actually a member of Fitzroy FC right now!

...conversely I'm stoked that GWS has a small supporter base so maybe I'm just a big fat hypocrite!

Haha given a hundred and fifty years, I'm sure Freo will be a little more advanced than your backwater club that has hardly advanced in the last 50 years. I'd hope in a hundred years we'd get more than 27000 supporters to a home game, a 40000 membership and a better nickname than pussies or handbaggers. Oh just wait, we already do.

Seems a little disengenuous to me. Your team is one of just two teams in a city of 2 million and state of 2.5 million (though that part probably helps WC more than Freo).

Geelong has a population of 215,000 and is in a state where the vast majority of AFL teams are based.

Also I think we have 50000 members this year but I think that was part of a non game membership drive so about 40k sounds right.

As for nicknames, personally I'm partial to the ol' Pivotonians. I haven't heard handbaggers in 20 years so this post was actually a bit of a treat!

Why are Geelong being disliked? Is it because they have been too good for so long? (Probably an unfair reason to dislike them) Or is it because they have appeared to have been getting an armchair ride by the umps/AFL for some time?

You are just so very very misguided in your opinion. If a tackle is first laid on the SHOULDER, then sheer momentum/physics means there's a high chance it will end up hitting the neck or head.

Selwood DOES get tackled properly all the time. It happens. All it requires is the opposition to correctly apply it.

The mass hysteria surrounding the whole Joel Selwood "ducking" situation has reached plague proportions, to the point that people have completely lost all rational thought.

Using this weeks game as an example, every single free kick Joel got was 100% legitimate. That's a FACT. Anyone with the game recorded, I urge you to prove me wrong.
