Envy and paranoia, more so.

It really is absolutely laughable to think a coach could be paid directly by a club sponsor and it not go in the cap.
If he really wanted a 'Chief of Leadership and Performance' gig to prepare himself for life after football I'm sure he could have put the feelers out for an organisation which wasn't a club sponsor. Coincidentally it just so happened that the role was available at Morris Finance though.

The simple and obvious solution would be to include all (and not just a portion of) payments for 3rd party deals with official club sponsors be included under the cap without exception - be it Chris Scott at Morris, Bailey Smith at Cotton On, or any other similar deals across the league which no doubt exist. That's of course not how the AFL want to operate.

Would be great to know what's included and what's not included in the soft cap from this deal, and also when exactly the decision was made about that. Not expecting to ever know those answers, of course. We instead should be happy with incredibly vague half answers from Dillon in an attempt to shut down further questions.

Just make them declare all money they’re earning or gifts they’re receiving. It’s dead simple to then investigate it that’s coming from a sponsor or supporter. If it is, it goes in the cap. End of.

I don’t know why they’d complicate it any further.

I am pleased and yes, thoroughly enjoying your melt.
Shame you can't be recorded infront of your computer screen right now.

It would have drawn so many clicks on social media.
Overweight middle-aged man paranoid by a superior football club to his own 😂
You're welcome to fantasise as you please :thumbsu:

“his relationship with Morris Finance and Geelong” had been looked at, and it was “in the realms of the soft cap”. “It’s been dealt with that way,” Dillon said.

Another half answer still leaves plenty of questions too.

Just beautifully handled by the AFL. :$

So clearly a rort but we don’t want to derail the build up to the start of the season so some vague comments will do. I know that several other clubs were up in arms about this because they could have been doing the same thing but didn’t think it was permissible under the rules.

Geelong is very progressive. What is it that Morris finance said? ‘We are transcending the traditional sponsorship model’.

With some of the deal being incorporated into the soft cap, the property steward at Geelong is probably taking a ‘pay cut’ and receiving socks stuffed with rolled up $100 notes.

It was $50 notes not $100 notes
Cost of living mate and they let’s make sure we clarify that it was put into my Surf Coast Property trust account thank you very much

If this was a real investigation and the AFL discovered something that showed Geelong were trying to rort the system then Geelong should be punished for that. If not then why is this now included in the soft cap? What changed.
What actually happened was the AFL were happy to sweep this under the rug then when it became public it turned into obvious bad pr. So they 'investigated' it and have now decided that it actually should fall under the soft cap.

Or what really happened was technically within the rules and the afl wants to obfuscate the loophole while they work to close it.
