what do you guys think of trading our compo pick to GWS for jaeger omeara?

we are the only club with this sort of compensation, to GWS it will mean a top five pick, most likely number 2 in next years draft, they would take this over most other offers

in return we get a gun young midfielder, instead of pick 13-16 next year with it

Re: use our compo pick to get jaeger omeara

Tell me, or those who don't know him, something about him please.

has entered the mini draft for bidding at the end of the year that GWS have to trade

will go close to being the number one draft pick next season

averaged 20 disposals a game as a underage mid for WA this year, made the AA team, 182cm 75kg is a real elite prospect

He's a jet. Lightning quick with silky skills. Dees will be trying to use thier Scully compo pick too but apparently he is (like many youngsters) extremely keen on staying in WA so go home factor is a possibility (more so for a shitty cultured club like us than yourselves I'd think).

Re: use our compo pick to get jaeger omeara

Yeah, I woulda thought go where you are drafted to or don't get drafted!!

It would have been like Swallow saying he only wanted to get drafted by a Victorian club....

i think if we go after him and use our compo pick we must be in one of the best positions to get him, who else is going to be able to offer a potential number 2 draft pick to GWS? thats what it will be worth to them if they finish last, no one, and no club is going to hand a superstar player over on the trade table, so i cant see why we wouldnt be in a great position if we use it

Jeager wants to stay home. To me that is a no. Not worth the risk on that basis. He'll go to WCE or Freo.

The reality is next year's draft is very strong anyway, so the player we get at pick 10ish (whatever our compo pick ends up being) will be in the same ballpark in terms of talent.

Re: use our compo pick to get jaeger omeara

what choice does he have

A lot, there's no chance he'd have even nominated for the mini draft unless he had a verbal agreement that freo, or more likely west coast, were willing to give up a lot to get him. Barring a snag in the deal, that's where he'll go.

source for him saying this?

trading the compo pick for omear was just about the only way i can see us getting value for our compo pick, otherwise we will end up getting out of our compo picks 15 and most likely something along the lines of 12-16, not exactly the ideal value for losing gaz, maybe we are better off holding onto this pick and waiting a couple more years and get a top ten pick when and iff we slide a little? rather than a late first rounder
?

It's not ideal value no matter what, that's the way the afl want it.

If we were Melb we'd tank next year to make it picks 1 and 2 but I'm very glad our club doesn't believe in that.

I reckon they'll use it next year because it's a strong pool.

I reckon it'll be better than 12th as I don't think we'll be finishing that high up next year.

I expect us to finish somewhere between 8th and 13th which would put it between 7th and 12th.

Would prefer Lachie Whitfied but thats me.

If we could swing the deal with a kid that talented we probably should back ourselves to keep him.

I see the real issue with go home factor is one when you are out of the main group , cant break in for what ever reason etc. Caddy and Toy up at GC would be a good example of this. In fact I wouldn't mind investigating a trade involving them but thats probably for another thread.

Losing Club, Bad club , poor culture. I think ours would be one of the better ones for someone like him. We have a team that wins , sure it will change but we are known as a club that rarely goes to the bottom. We are profitable , we play on our home ground as well as the big Melb grounds. Most WA kids seem to like our club as is its a bit of the small and the big , we are a strong club yet in a comparatively small city. Ultimately Im sure we would have guys like Joel Corey, Mitch Duncan who would help him settle in Im sure.

Miss family. Could be a problem early but it seems after the initial period most seem to like the independence of being away from home.

If in the end he still wanted out then so be it but I would not let it stop us IF we thought he was the right player for our needs.

The kids wanting to go home thing is over rated.

The list of kids who have walked out on the club that drafted them would be pretty ****ing small. And the list of kids who walked out of a successful club with good culture would be next to nothing.

2 things here, first, there is no way we won't make the eight next year.

Secondly, we aren't going to say no to the GWS mini draft because we expect to finish outside the eight. There will be no one at the club expecting to not to make the eight next year.

Therefore, have a crack at O'Meara (or Grundy or Crouch or Stringer etc)!

It's not often I am gobsmacked by your posts, but personally I think this is an extraordinary prediction.

Take your doomsday pills this morning?

any club get him before GWS!

Is this true? I thought it still has to be after our pick? IF you are correct, we'd probably have to through in a player, but I'd be more than willing to throw our hat into the ring. Like you say, if they can use it after their first pick, it'll be pick 2 or 3 at worst.

If that pick does turn out to be pick 2 then we wont be putting in any extra. If anything it would be the other way around. Imagine offering up pick 2 in a good draft to any club. You could pretty much name your price.
