Geelong vs pies final should not be at the mcg.

Many of the Geelong supporters on the Bellarine and else where would have zero travel time if the game was at KP because they wouldn't be able to get a ticket.
Except ofcourse all the people who get in.

the aim isnt to maximise attendence. Its to maximise the ratio of your fans to your opponents. It gives you the best chance, all else equal, of winning.

its also about your players not having to travel 2 hours in a cramped car before a big match.

So you really do need all the people yelling “Geelong” *clap clap clap - to win a game of footy?

Man get over it honestly. Enjoy the fact your team is there, again, and have the best chance of taking it out.

Footy is a peoples game - it’s not for entitled supporters who would soon rather see thousands upon thousands of other footy lovers locked out of a final when it doesn’t have to be that way.

If you can’t beat any team at the MCG, regardless if you are Geelong or any other team for that matter, then maybe, just maybe, you weren’t the best team for the year after all, and the cup simply wasn’t meant to be.

From a league perspective that IS what finals are about.

Yes the advantage part of home ground advantage.

It is why the G is a neutral ground, as unlike CatPark, never get 95% crowd support to a vic v vic game at the G.

Are you finally getting why Geelong have the best home advantage in the league?

Hire a luxury coach to make the trip from KP, it aint hard

So now we have the size of the car as an excuse.

Just curious, is this more or less important than the distribution of local coffee shops?
Don’t you know… the preferred vehicle of the full-time professional footballer in Geelong is a Toyota Yaris. Perfect for everyone, from Danger and his surfboards to Tom out on his farm.

Of course they car-pool to every game, usually arriving just 15 minutes before game time. Five to a car. It then takes 10 minutes for Hawkins, Cameron, Blicavs, Stanley and De Konig to get out of the car. When they realise how tight for time they’re running they get changed while driving up the highway to the ground. Of course they’re running late coz they just had to… HAD TO… stop by their favourite cafe (sometimes two cafes depending on the car-poolers).

Of course, the price of petrol is a sore point and will likely be used as excuse shortly.

Yep you've nailed it. They are all the reasons why this game should be at Geelong. I forgot about fuel price, pies should reimburse Geelong, oh and tolls.

Crap
The aim is to turn up and play better than your opposition. Crowds, ratios etc. are irrelevant. These are players earning squillions. If they're going to blame a 60 minute car ride in their luxury vehicles for their performance on-field, then their mental application is a concern

Playing a 'home final' was not a concern in the past. Why make it a thing now?

This entire crowd argument thing is idiotic, and makes our supporter base look like a bunch of whining ********s
Playing away didn't hurt the Eagles against Geelong in the 1992 Semi, didn't hurt Fremantle against Geelong in 2012 or 2013
Geelong lost those matches because they were beaten by the better team - despite Geelong having overwhelming support

Exactly the same will apply this weekend. You're already looking for a convenient excuse. Bog off.

So we have, not getting enough sleep, no good coffee shops, trains not running, crammed into cars to get to Melbourne, playing at Collinwoods home ground.

Any others?

I'm starting to feel more confident now.
Yes. The time spent travelling means I can't get as much housework done. Be great if you could mow the lawns and do some washing.

Fairly sure Carlton just got booted. They'd only just drawn funds and redeveloped a stand, but didn't the league say tough luck, we aren't going to schedule any games?

Yes I seem to recall them being shafted by their president or CEO I think who also happened to be the boss at Docklands. (Conflict of interest or what?).

It will make a mockery of the competition if the clear competition leader is playing its home final in front of 75 thousand screaming pies fans at the ground the pies play 15 games at each season when the pies finished fourth.

we can not have a repeat of the ridiculous 2017 finals series.

surely the competition has moved beyond the amateurish of playing finals where crowds are highest at the expense of fairness. Other professional sports do not do this.

note the grand final is a little different because there are no home sides in a grand final and the crowds arent heavily biased to mcg tenants due to fans travelling and all the neutral fans. So please dont bring grand final arguments into this thread as its not equivalent.

play the game at either kardinia and if thats not possible (it is) then play at least docklands.

for the sake of the competition.
I feel your pain and simultaneously ignore it.
