Geelong vs pies final should not be at the mcg.

Too bad. You guys should have resized the ground when you took hundreds of millions of taxpayer money in the first place.

Geelong fans would seriously lock 60 thousand people out of a hot final just to maintain their engineered home ground advantage.

But geelongs stadium has better dimensions for football then the mcg. Its the mcg that should change. Its too circular and too short which results in too much boring circle work.

ps. The fact the grounds are different dimensions is just another reason why this game should be in geelong.

geelong earned the right to have the ground dimension and crowd advantages. Not collingwood.

this would not happen in europe or the states. we all know it wouldnt.
why do we accept it in the afl? I will say why. Cos it only really disadvantages geelong (and eventually gold coast if they ever make a final). So the majority simply dont care cos they only benefit from it.

A few years ago sydney rightfully claimed it unfair when they had to go play their home final against gws at homebush. Which was only 25 minutes away. Ironically most melbourne supporters supported their plight.

but when it comes to geelong and finals its massive cognitive dissonance.

it needs to be called out. This needs to stop.

Yep and the grand final should be at the higher place home ground, not at the MCG every year. Despite finishing higher than Collingwood and despite even beating them in the first final we had to play the 2018 grand final at their home ground. I wish we had a fairer comp but it is what it is and I hope it changes one day.

Do these people realise that from about 10 years after the VFL was started, that finals were only ever played at Melbournes home ground each and every year and no one said anything. Because it didn’t seem to make a difference. Geelong have been new of the most powerful clubs n that time so why does it matter so much to you?

We talk about it every year nothing will change relatively soon if ever.

Everyone goes on and on how important a home final is we won 8 in a row and missed it by 3%

Collingwood finish 4 and are in a better position than us.

LOL

This thread is exactly why Geelong will lose. They are still scarred from the Richmond game many years ago.

The main reason I wanted Collingwood to lose today was because they would have one foot in the prelim.

All week I've been thinking of how Dangerfield pissed his pants when he walked on the field vs Richmond "oohhh ahhhh it was our home game!! but it was like an away game it's not fair!!, where's my mummy!!".

Not sure how many contested balls Big Footy threads are averaging but I doubt this thread has any impact on the result of the game, nor will the person who posted it

It will make a mockery of the competition if the clear competition leader is playing its home final in front of 75 thousand screaming pies fans at the ground the pies play 15 games at each season when the pies finished fourth.

we can not have a repeat of the ridiculous 2017 finals series.

surely the competition has moved beyond the amateurish of playing finals where crowds are highest at the expense of fairness. Other professional sports do not do this.

note the grand final is a little different because there are no home sides in a grand final and the crowds arent heavily biased to mcg tenants due to fans travelling and all the neutral fans. So please dont bring grand final arguments into this thread as its not equivalent.

play the game at either kardinia and if thats not possible (it is) then play at least docklands.

for the sake of the competition.
Tough t***ies, you get a massive advantage over the Melbourne clubs regarding free agency and you get to have more genuine home games, the game will be played where it should be played.

I mean it’ll only be 75,000 vs 15,000 if Geelong supporters decide to not buy tickets……

Don’t you choose to play your home games against us at the G?

Do Geelong get to nominate the location of the game?

Adelaide Oval is available.
I would take that over the mcg. Atleast its neutral.

even when pakistans cricket side had to play outside pakistan due to terrorism threats at home they still played their home test games in a neutral country.

it would of been ridiculous to play pakistans home test games against India in india even though it was the next closest country and had significant support for cricket.

It should be at the G.

As the home team Geelong should get a preferred fixturing time.

Looking forward to it.

There is an argument that when KP holds > 40k then it gets week 1 or 2 finals. (Same with Docklands)

It is true that MCG tenants can have relative mediocrity rewarded in these scenarios but I guess that's just part of it all.

Redevelopment aside, if Geelong want 11 home games in Geelong then they should get it, and guaranteed home finals there too.

If they request (as opposed to forced to play) any home games at the MCG during the season then the AFL should have the option to chose where they get their home finals, because both venues have acted as home stadiums throughout the year. The bigger injustice is where teams like the Bulldogs get stuck with 'home' finals at the MCG when they're not allowed to play on that ground during the regular season, besides one or two away games.

If a stadium has been requested as a home venue throughout the season, it should be an option for a final, at the AFL's choice.

Your opinions of ground dimensions are fine, but the point remains that Geelong had a chance to resize their ground to be a more conventional size (like they did in Perth) but chose not to.

pare we really going to pretend that Collingwood fans aren’t going to still come out in droves if the final was in Geelong? Both sporter bases have access to tickets at the same time and I don’t think a one hour drive will stop any of them. You would probably see more Collingwood fans than Geelong fans at Kardinia Park. Even if it were 50/50, you are still locking out thousands of Geelong fans. Is that fair for them to miss out?

Europe or the United States don’t have 10 teams located in the same region either so it’s not comparable.

If you are good enough to win you will win anywhere and same goes for Collingwood at Kardinia park. So why then lock out 60 thousand fans?
