Geelong vs pies final should not be at the mcg.

So you’re saying Geelong v Brisbane at the MCG will only draw 40,000?

That would be the lowest drawing MCG prelim in a very long time surely…
Geelong vs brisbane will get 60 thousand. 35 thousand cats fans. 15 thousand lions fans and 10 thousand neutrals.

this compares to pies vs cats where its 55 thousand pies fans, 25 thousand cats fans and 12 thousand neutrals.

Whats so special about the G that makes it Neutral?
The fact that it is rarely meets the normal conditions that people accept as a "home advantage".
Equal home ground support? - No
Both sets of supporters are well represented at the G normally.

A normal home advantage is when the home team has circa 90% of crowd for them, and there is just a tiny section of away fans.

At the G this rarely happens.

At CatPark it is always the case.
Equal distance from competing clubs? - No
In plenty of match-ups yes it is equal distance.

But do Richmond have an advantage (Punt Road base) over Hawthorn who are based out at Waverley??
Familiarity for all competing clubs? - No
Yes there is

16 clubs played 2 or more games at the G in 2022

It isnt like Cat Park where only Geelong plays there
Well I guess I was wrong
Yep.

As the only MCG game will get a shit load of MCC and AFL members who dont support either going along to the PF.

And should be more than 35k Cats fans

It will make a mockery of the competition if the clear competition leader is playing its home final in front of 75 thousand screaming pies fans at the ground the pies play 15 games at each season when the pies finished fourth.

we can not have a repeat of the ridiculous 2017 finals series.

surely the competition has moved beyond the amateurish of playing finals where crowds are highest at the expense of fairness. Other professional sports do not do this.

note the grand final is a little different because there are no home sides in a grand final and the crowds arent heavily biased to mcg tenants due to fans travelling and all the neutral fans. So please dont bring grand final arguments into this thread as its not equivalent.

play the game at either kardinia and if thats not possible (it is) then play at least docklands.

for the sake of the competition.
Get stuffed. Geelong needs to deal with it. Geelong are gifted everything and have the biggest advantage in the league. The last club to talk about any advantages is Geelong. You lot have been given everything every year. Biggest advantage in the AFL.

It's played at the MCG. Don't like it well ask the league to play more games at the MCG during the year instead of that rabble of a ground in Geelong.
It stays at MCG.

Deal with it

Why do Geelong fans so desperately want to play a final at Kardinia park, you have never won a final playing there.
Spoilt. They want the premiership gifted to them. More so then what is already given to them. They get the biggest advantage in the league and want more. Bunch of spoilt entitled sooks there supporter base. If anything Geelong shouldnt be getting so many games down in Geelong. 4 games max should only be allowed. Rest of there home games should be played at the MCG.

More than double pies fans to cats fans? Sounds like a fair few of your 70k+ members need to get better at using Ticketek.

Geelong is the most disadvantaged team in world sport. a higher proportion of away games then any other team in world sport. Never gets home finals in its home town and often plays its so called home finals in its oppositions home town and even stadium.

Geelongs home town is Melbourne not a rabble suburban ground. You get the biggest advantage. League needs to crack down on Geelong for what they are given especially with players asking to go there all the time every trade period. Need to bring Geelong back down. Way too much an advantage with having so many home games and so many players requesting trades to them.

Poor Vic clubs have no chance in this league. A crackdown on Geelong Richmond and Collingwood is needed.

Not letting this one go huh. It’s only an extra 15 minutes on average that it takes to get to the dole office. I’m sure if people really loved their club, they’d make an effort 2-3 times a year. You simply have to move on, for your own sake.

I like playing finals in the G, but saying Geelong's home town is not Geelong still drew a chuckle.

Unfortunately your proposed solution would not have made much difference over the last 15 years as all flags were won with 100% of finals played at the MCG (7/9 finals against Melbourne based teams). Away record extrapolated to 22 games would still translate to top 4 more often than not.

Weaker Geelong sides have been eliminated at the G over the years and twice recently at other neutral grounds. It's hardly been dominance post 2011, just contention.

Less players will request to go there once they lose relevancy. It's a benefit for staying thereabouts despite not winning any cups - it's easily cancelled out by having a weaker draft hand each year. You work with what you get given.

Just a troll. Go to the bay.

It's home state finals, not home ground. The MCG is most club's home ground. Geelong play there 7 times a year, plus finals, so they'd know the ground as well as anyone. Not as if any club trains there.

No other club has a real home ground, given every Vic club shares the 2 grounds, so why should Geelong have such a major advantage. They already have the best home ground advantage in the competition. Can assure you, when we finished on top back in the day and Richmond 2nd, we didn't get to play at Princes Park, it was at the G, or Waverley.

Perhaps it would be better for the Cats to leave the AFL and join the Geelong & District league. Then their fans would never have to travel to Melbourne and the team could dominate and win the flag every year. Win, win

Love it, every club should join the Geelong & District league.

Apparently the AFL should put a cap on Opposition clubs members and fans as this is unfair to the Cats.

GF should be in Canberra so I don't have to fly to Melbourne every final series and pay through the arse because all the other clubs members want flights inflating the prices.

It's not unfair. Away wins are better. Getting a rare "home" MCG final like this week feels weird, almost dirty. Hopefully as many Pies fans who can't make it to the SCG get down on Friday to cheer the Lions.

It was great having our final at The Pies home ground, I haven’t seen that many upset Pies fans since 2011.

Yes, very good.

If Tassie gets a team I can guarantee we'd not get a home final.

Driving 80k to the G from Geelong isn't a patch on trying to get a flight from Hobart & pay through the nose for that & a nights accommodation.

Tassie will get home finals, just like GWS did, no issues there.

We get less home games than every other team and we don’t sell them.

Until that changes, f*** off with this repetitive notion that we have anything given to us.

It’s no less moronic than any of the ideas you’re railing against.

Geelong get 9 games with an actual home advantage. No other vic club gets that.

Amd what Vic based club gets all 11 home games at their preferred home venue?

Tigers, Pies and Hawks are forced to play "home" games at Etihad. Dees hated Etihad so much they now play "home" games in the NT.
