Look, I love that we give it a red hot go and all. But let's face it, when things like this happen, seriously, why do we even bother? Callum Mills won the Rising Star, and now Isaac Heeney has won the coaches best young player award. Their success is hardly a surprise - they were both obvious top-5 (maybe even top-2) picks in their draft years. Sydney got both these players, despite in both those years finishing very high on the ladder (including a Grand Final!). This makes an absolute mockery of all claims that the draft remains a mechanism of equalisation.

The fact is, if the likely happens, and we have the Swans playing the Giants this year, that will be totally unsurprising, given the ridiculous concessions and advantages given to these two teams. It has made the whole competition become a farce.

Why bother? Seriously?
Because it takes more than a handful of stars to make a premiership, we know that better than anybody.

Better than last time, Still don't think it'll be any good.

Cricket one worked out OK. Ian Holland ended back on the Victoria list, albeit he got dropped then forced his way back in on Club Performances.

Think the 3 "Football" ones played 5 A-League games between them.

I think they have to grab them while they are younger 19-21 years old.

Dogs supporters doing their thing in the Giants preview thread.

One of my favourite parts of playing the Dogs, welcoming all their guests to our board!

Suckling out a loss for the Dogs. Probably no more than SJ is for the Giants though.

Cats by 22 and Giants by 14.

I'm gonna love it. Watch the 1st & 4th quarters in my seat, spend the time in between sinking piss in the Percy Beams bar ;)

Got tickets? I'd love to go to a GF where I can just enjoy the game - or even better root for a side (so any combination of Geelong/Hawthorn/Collingwood/Sydney wouldn't do).

Try 42 years if you sign up now :(

Signed my son up when he was born in 2013 & full membership was 42 years away

We applied for our family of 4 when we arrived in Australia in 1996...and got it this year! Am still deciding whether it is worth the expense though if we have AFL and club membership. Happy to watch the cricket from the regular stands.
Do you find it is worth it?

Living in Sydney, the MCC membership cost is less due to living interstate ($411). I feel it's worth it & I only go to the grand final, Boxing Day test & maybe a 1 or 2 H&A games each year.

I would go to all the MCG finals - AFL & Cricket - & a heap more other footy games during the year if I still lived in Melbs, so I would definitely get the $700 worth of value out of it

Thanks for that. I didnt realise interstate was cheaper, but it makes sense. I guess we'll do the maths and make a decision soon.

Love neutral finals and Gfs for that reason. Edge of the seat stuff without the stress. The Swans 05 was pretty amazing. All the little old ladies crying with joy after so long.

They have actually had really good radio segment on SEN I think from the inside footy guys that rate teams recruiting and the percentages they got right. Sydney have just done an incredible job finding players they develop into best 22. They get guys from late in the draft like Members and have an incredible rookie list strike rate. They have in the past done what we do well and pull in other teams fringe players and make them best 22.

I can't remember the time frame but it was like the last 7 years and we ran at about 40% from memory while the Dogs were the outright best and miles in front of anyone running at over 50%. I think we were 7th overall but we had our first few seasons pudding it up under Watters with guys like Maister and redrafting Blake.
