I figured since a lot of us live on the Gold Coast or surrounding areas (Tweed, Logan, Brisbane etc.) it would be cool to share news/information we gather about our beautiful city. The Gold coast is evolving at a quick rate and there are many topics to discuss and debate (lots of controversial ones too) so let's start off with the ferry service which launched TODAY! (Hopo.com.au for more information)
Current stops include Surfers Paradise, HOTA, Marina Mirage, Sea World and Broadwater Parklands (there are plans in place to run ferries from those destinations to Metricon on event days). Seems like it's relatively affordable to ride with a single-use ticket costing $5. Hopo is short for 'hop on, hop off' for anyone that is wondering.
Not interesting in discussing the ferries? No problem. We also have the construction starting on the light rail extension to Burleigh soon and Palm Beach residents vehemently opposing the next extension through their suburb on the way to the airport (I'm sure Mr Bods has an opinion on this one), the creation of a new international terminal at the Gold Coast Airport as well as a Rydges hotel adjacent to the airport to open in 2020, Star Casino hosting the Logies each year, the booming northern suburbs of Coomera, Ormeau and Pimpama, the M1 upgrade which is currently underway between Mudgeeraba and Reedy Creek plus the next M1 upgrade which will begin straight afterwards and will extend from Palm Beach down to the NSW border, the recent Hollywood movies filmed at Movie World such as Godzilla vs Kong/Dora the Explorer/Pacific Rim/Aquaman/Thor:Ragnarok/San Andreas/Pirates of the Caribbean, the stand off currently taking place between the QLD state government and Star Casino Broadbeach over a second casino being approved on the GC, Hollywood celebrities visiting the Gold Coast like Pamela Anderson two weeks ago.
I'm sure there are lots of other topics y'all might want to discuss but the ones above are just some I could think of off the top of my head. So pick a topic and let's go!
