As a long time reader and sometime contributer to this board I have to ask a favour of you all. Clearly you are all mad Demons like myself, and you have all provided me with countless hours of entertainment in here however I'm asking for a little more. I know it's rich for someone like me, who posts so infrequently to make this request, however I've just this week been involved in serious workplace accident that will keep me in hospital for quite some time and rehab even longer. I'll be lucky if I'm walking in 18 months and am already dreading the dire boredom and cabin fever that I am going to suffer and am looking for any tidbits, nuggets of gold, posts about about anything and everything Dees and plenty more of the usual laughs I get from being part of this wonderful community.
As someone who has missed only 5 games in Melbourne over the last 16 years i'm shattered to not be part of what i feel will be the best season I've experienced as a 40+ year Demon fan. I was so confident I even upgraded my membership package (which the MFC have so kindly refunded) and had convinced 2 new members to sign on and join me in my regular pilgrimages. I'm sure they will still attend but won't get the same kick out of it without my full MFCSS take on things to keep them entertained/dismayed.
I'm not looking for sympathy or likes just good old fashioned big footy antics in bucket loads. If you think 'Hmmm... Should i post this or not, who cares....' I do. You've all always been so great to follow and i can't reward you in any way but my thanks are huge in advance, and in retrospect.
Take care out there and Go Dees!!

All the best for your recovery mate.

I'm so nervous about Round 3.

If we were 1-2, with today's loss and yet another loss to North Melbourne... I couldn't prepare for it.

I haven't even thought about it, i'm nervous about a more competitive brisbane at home

As an aside, nearly 55k yesterday was pretty damn good considering we were head to head with the F1

I was very surprised and happy, only 4K behind two ‘powerhouses’ the night before...
I think there's some sort of agreement Geelong has around away games in Melbourne with their membership. Half of Q49 and the front third of Q50 were all reserved which is atypical of a Melbourne game.

Also - they were prepared to do the drive, even with the questionable weather in the morning and the disrupted traffic what with the formula 1 stuff. I was worried a fair number would elect to just watch it on the telly, but I suspect the combination of GAJ return plus Selwood 250th persuaded a few to be bothered. Good on them too. I would like to think I would make an effort to be there for a milestone for the Skip.

Also, it might have been where I was sitting but I didn’t get a bad vibe from any surrounding Geelong supporters - apart from the routine resentment you tend to get when a group of opposition supporters stand and cheer a goal when your team is down, but by and large compared to other matches the experience was reasonably dickhead free (I did get driven nearly mad by a rambling crazy behind me but he was a Demons supporter and turned out to be probably a bit challenged). A few nearby mothers of both varieties frowned at me when they thought their children might be corrupted by my swearing at umpires, Wagner or the world at large but that pretty much happens every game.

There was one dickhead near me who was being loud and idiotic with literally every umpiring decision and when multiple people told him he was a jackass he wanted to start a fight.

There's morons who support every side.

I sat next to a Geelong bloke who was very polite and kept agreeing with me when I screamed for frees, even when I was being completely biased and it should probably have been a free Geelong's way. "Yes, you were hard done by there", "Gee we've been lucky today", etc. Disconcerting.

It’s a weird feeling. I once went to a bulldogs match and these two rusted on Footscray elders were next to me marking goals and points on their copies of the record. At the end of the game they shook my hand and congratulated me on the promise of the young Demons and tipped their hats and ambled off. It was nice and everything but kind of messed with my planned evening rant. I still think they were CIA plants trying to destabilise me for some reason.

Hah, this bloke shook my hand as well! Especially weird as I was right in the middle of losing my mind at Gawn. I sense a conspiracy.

Every club has ferals, some just more than others. In my personal experience Carlton are the worst bunch.

Collingwood, surely?

My highlight of QB last year was Bugg winning a dodgy free kick, and a guy having a crack at him for not having an H in his name after the T.

"****ING TWO-MAS WHAT KIND OF NAME IS THAT, NICE WORK TWO-MAS"

I was at the Round 2 game against Carlton last year, and was sat next to a Carlton supporter, and he was actually a really good bloke ... although I also struck up a conversation with the guy in front of me who was an Essendon fan, and he was also good value ... so it may have just been the section for it ...

A suggestion on our forward 50 entries: play Gawn out of the square for 50% of the time and push Hogan up the ground.

This would lead to a lot of positives in my opinion, first of all it gives Pedo bear more time in the ruck and he thrives on work, second it gives us a strong marking target which will encourage deeper f50 entries, and third it gets Hogan out running around which is his strength. His contested marking has dropped away and he didn’t even fly heaps of times against the cats. I’d really love to see this used against Brissy. It could be our stop gap measure until TMAC is back.

Why isn't Lynden Dunn still on our list? The combination of he and Lever would be awesome.
Oscar McDonald would have played only 1 or 2 games as opposed to 38. Dunny was rolling around in the VFL whilst Omac was making us all mad each weekend with turnovers and punching the ball back into the easy scoring spots. Given Omac is only 22 and has finally hit 100kg i think we did the right thing.

that's true, but we chopped Dunn then made the decision to try Tmac forward, now we are clearly 1 KPD short- Omac I like, but Frost is very average 1v1 as is Lever.

Just watching the game again. We conceded two goals in the last two minutes of the second quarter. **** we got a lot of goals kicked on us in the last few minutes of quarters.

There is definitely a pretty large issue with concentration levels. It's likely to do with the overall youth of the team, but there has to be something that can be done about it. 8 times last year we conceded 30pts+ in a qrt, and we went on to lose 7 of them, so to start this year with another one (not to mention the JLT against St Kilda) is a bit of a concern, but time will tell.

Hopefully it'll be seen as a turning point for the rest of the season.

The passage of play in the 3rd quarter where Bernie collided with Parfit is one of the best passages of play I’ve ever seen. Bernie knew he was going to get hit when he took possession of the ball but instead of trying to avoid it he just accelerated st him. I love Bernie. He’s just a bold dude, can imagine him being first out of the trench.
