Updated 26/11. Got my final first round update in. I've changed my number one pick and gone for McCartin. Really based over the last 24 - 48 hours where it has become increasingly likely that St. Kilda want to build on that succession plan KPF post Riewoldt which included adding Tim Membrey over the trade period.

The facts are the midfield talent in the draft is deep enough to pass on Petracca and get a midfielder with there late first or early second round pick whereas the depth in talented KPF is less. After the first round there doesn't seem to be a player that can break open a game inside 50 like McCartin at an early stage of their career.

Have also added Alex Neal Bullen to 21 over Reece McKenzie for reasons above as well.

I’ve left the other rounds to the later pages in the thread, with reasons why I have them at that pick and who else is in the mix at that pick. Enjoy

I like this draft if only because we win the flag.

Think the Cats will finish the year strongly (on paper) with Hawthorn and Fremantle the only games they would be any chance to drop. Play GWS away and will go into the finals on the back of a home game against Brisbane

When I saw that Keitel was going to be in your last group of teams I was excited, but then you dashed my hopes and gave him to bloody Hawthorn

That Geelong pick after Gold Coast stuffed my player order a bit. Marchbank, Keitel and Lamb all changed teams and Nelson has been left out of the first round.

FWIW maybe look for Darcy Cameron to the Dons in R3 :thumbsu:

Isn't he a ruckman? I was hoping more of a CHF (Keitel would do nicely :))

How do you think De Goey will project at AFL level? I'm intruiged by him for sure.

I reckon Carlton will go with the best available mid (Petracca/Brayshaw). As much as we need a KPP, we need A grade mids more. Western Bulldogs almost certainly will take a tall. I think Hugh Goddard will slip through to them.

I thought you would have learned from last time that taking the young talls first is a smarter strategy.

I wouldn't be surprised if we trade into the late first round or early 2nd. There will still be quality talls available there (Keitel, McKenzie etc). Aside from McCartin and Durdin there isn't a hell of a lot of difference in skill and potential between the other talls. I discount Wright based on the fact that I think he'll be a ruckman over a forward.

Plus we don't have any gun midfielders developing.

That last point would be relevant if you had any gun KPP's developing. Look at Hawthorn. In 2004 they were cra, but took the 2 best KPP's in the draft. You go key position first.

Hawthorn had picks 2 and 4 that year I believe? We'll have 1 early pick and the 2 standout KPP's will be gone by our pick. Again, I think we'll trade into the late 1st round/early 2nd and pick up KPP's there. There isn't a lot of difference between the KPP we'll get at pick 4/5 compared to pick 17-25. All of them have their upside and negative factors, it's going to be a lucky dip either way. But picking up Petracca or Brayshaw is a much safer bet.

Plus we do have KPP's developing. We've got Cameron Giles coming through as a KPD, potentially Matt Watson if he turns things around and Levi Casboult is finally showing something as a Forward. It's not like we're Brisbane and have nothing.

In my view unless one of Wright McCartin or Durdin slips through to Carlton they would be better going mid. I think Goddard is a fair ways behind those 3 and there are a bunch of KPPs that are pretty much on the same level, it's more a matter of type preference. Someone will be around in the second round, but if the 3 talls are gone by Carlton's pick they should be able to pick up a crackerjack mid.

Updated to the first two rounds of the draft if anyone is ken to have a look. Let me know what you think

2 key forwards we have to wait 3 more years for to see if they are any good. How about one midfielder and one forward Leppa looks like playing both Close and Freeman in the seniors meaning Wright probably will drop past our pick otherwise we're going to have the tallest forward line in the history of the AFL.

Good point. Hadn't crossed my mind actually. Will depend a lot on what is needed to secure Hammelmann or risk losing him to another club.

Of the 2 players I'd say Hammellmann is the more longer term prospect and Wright would push for selection early

Harris Andrews looms as another tall forward from our Academy that could be, along with Hammel, potential alternatives to Wright that would allow us to get Brayshaw or Petracca, giving us what could be a scary looking mid.

Rockliff, Rich, Redden, Aish, Zorko, Petracca, Mayes, Beams, Crisp, Martin and Leunburger. With others like Taylor, Bewick etc who can rotate through easily enough.

We have no chance of getting Petracca. Brayshaw or Pickett would be good though.

Collingwood wouldn't pick Clem Smith over Jarrod Garlett.
