I work at a global company and often get the feminine version of my name, probably unwittingly, from people from Japan, China, etc.Tend to let that go through to the 'keeper.

Thing I can't handle is when my name (which is straightforward, but does have various spellings) gets spelled incorrectly in a work email, mostly by Aussies. It's not hard to see the correct spelling.

I always make a point to spell a persons name correctly in emails. I mean, it's the first act in engaging with that person, what does it say about you if you couldn't be bothered putting the small effort to get it right?
There's a feminine version of kickazz?

I am getting sick of people getting my name wrong.
My name is common, not difficult to pronounce, and even when I do correct people, they still don't seem to click that my name isn't what they think it is!
For the record, my name is Dean, however I have been misidentified by the following names:
- Dan, most common, somewhat understandable
- Danny
- Daniel
- Dane
- Dwayne
And the most bizarre one i got, was Steve.
I find myself having to drown out my name so it isn't misidentified.
I've got a guy at work, who I'm only working with for a week or so, who for some reason thinks my name is Daniel.
Do i bother to correct him? Or is too late?

Anyone else have some funny stories about getting their name mispronounced/misidentified?
I'm a bit like this MrNocturnal. I often get variants with similar letters but usually just let it slide. It's only if I get the "WTF, how did you come up with that" names that I correct most fo the time. I've taken over a business that my Dad started. He retired 7 years ago, yet some of my clients still call me by his name.

It was pointed out to me on the phone one time that the shortened version of my first name, coupled with my last name sounds like a male pr0n star name.

My mother's French Canadian, her maiden name is Dubé, when she married my father, the wedding notice in the Rhodesian Herald (they married in England) didn't put the accent over the e, causing many to think that my father was marrying a black women, Dube is a very common Shona name. This initially caused much consternation as mixed marriage weren't looked upon all that kindly in 1971.

Just go with your BF name.

'Hi, I am Mr Natural'.

See how that works out for ya.;)

The Bourne Identity came on as I was reading your post, and just as I was about to respond. Some guy asks Matt Damon: What's your name? What's your name? and he responds: "I don't know"

That's a good enough answer for me.

Craig. I get Greg (only understandable one), Chris, Ken, Gary, James, Kerry and someone a couple of months back called me Laurence.

Justin....Jason...Justin....Jason....I've had people calling me Jason for as along as I can remember. Too polite to scream at people "HOW THE **** DOES JASON SOUND LIKE JUSTIN?????" Seriously I don't see how they sound the same..

Got called Justine the other day at the dentist by the lady calling out the appointments...though that was based on a typo on the referral so that's forgivable I guess

I think I answer the phone at work fairly clearly but somehow Todd turns into Scott, Tom, Rod, Rob, John and many others.
A lot of people also seem determined to get my name right when they mishear it even if they are just asking what time we close

My Mum's name is spelled in a less common but not rare way.
She will have people misspell her name in comments on Facebook statuses she posts.

I once had someone regularly say 'Hi Chris', immediately before correcting himself. Neither he nor I knew why he kept calling me Chris.

I also got 'Morgan' once. (I am actually B1).
Captain Obvious strikes again

I'm another one with two first names. People who have known me all my life still occasionally call me by my last name. It shits me no end. My last name isn't even a name that is common for a first name anymore. I don't even think I've met anyone under 40 who has my last name for a first name.

I played rugby with a guy called William Williams. There's craniofacial surgeon called David Davids too.

And a rugby league commentator called Peter Peters.

My brother and I have always had our names mixed up, despite being 2 years apart. I sorta just roll with it... and if I'm in a bad mood, will correct them.

I once had to correct insurance paperwork because I said "ah" out of habit when they asked me my surname, and it came back to me as a policy for "Joe Arjones" (my last name isn't jones, but it was this format).

I've very deliberate when I talk on the phone since then.

When I went to Europe somewhere between me, the travel agent and the tour company my name became Todd Todd Jones*
I actually had to sign something for their records and possible security reasons, basically saying my parents are that ******ed to name me that

*Last name changed to protect my identity

Paperwork can be a problem. I had a travel agent a few years back who left out the space between my fitst and middle names. A bit of a problem at the airport coming hiome from Bangkok, because the passport name and the ticket name didn't match. I was lucky I budgeted for a typical Bangkokj traffic mess but thanks to a clear un got to the airport early. It took two hours for Singapore Airlines to get hold of someone the Australian Embassy and get the all-clear, which left me just enough time to clear security and sprint for the gate.
