Surprise! Reardo may be gone but I'm still here! My executive call to cancel the show was a masterstroke as it gave me enough time to find a new guest and still put on a top quality interview. Interview standards may have dropped due to time constraints.
And tonight we celebrate brotherly love. A friend in need is a friend indeed and my buddy was able to come to the rescue the show. So tonight we celebrate everything Filthy and Furyious. My guest tonight is the most prominent player for the Fighting Furies. This week he was named captain of the Furies and he was last year's B&F winner. Ladies and gentleman on such short
notice, please welcome BILC to the show!
Thanks Chez, I know it was really short notice & me screaming down your throat about a red carpet probably didn't help the cause. But all's well that ends well, you've got a (very) high profile guest and I got to try out some of my latest death threats.
Yes indeed everyone's a winner here. But before we begin here I need to question you on how I should formally refer to you as. Does Mr. Cotchin suit? I mean you no longer go by that name so I wonder whether it is still appropriate? Why the change? Surely you haven't tired of watching Keira Knightly run around the soccer pitch with the other European fine ladies?
Don't get me wrong Chez, I'd love to throw one up Keiras tampon tunnel. And I wouldn't throw that middle eastern chick out of bed either but some things just have to be done. I felt that with all these ranking lists and all the lazy sods in the SFA it might work in my favor to have a shorter name that would be easier to slot into lists. Nah it was just too big really, everyone was calling me BILC anyway so it made sense.
Well you are a big list player. A few hard fought battle's with beez at the end of last year in Dub's power rankings for top spot. Did it have an impact on you when Gee Dub admitted he put you as #1 as a publicity stunt? Does it sort of make you wonder "these lists aren't about me, it's about the people
making them to get a few extra comments?"
Nah it didn't impact me to be honest, it was just a running the joke the whole trying to take number the one spot thing and I'm sure Dubz was just playing into this by putting me at number one. All of these lists are just opinion anyway so until we have a scenario where everyone puts together a top 20-30 and we tally the votes we won't have a true list of the SFA's favourite posters. Actually i might trademark that idea, anyone steals it and I'll hunt them down (looking at you WGS you intellectual property thief you).
Well WGS has rightly held down number 1 spot for a while now. You've been around here a while now, do you sense a changing of the guard in season 15? Guys like WGS, pants and puppet are really starting to challenge guys like Easty and yourself who have been the heavyweights here for a while. Do new impact players tend to put pressure on guys like you? It's almost as though you have a target on your back because everyone's gunning to be the best.
I wouldn't say changing of the guard, it happens every season, new guys come along and stamp themselves on the competition but the core group of posters from the last 2-3 seasons is still relatively unchanged. As for the newer guys putting pressure on me and other posters, I suppose it does but it's definitely not a bad thing if these guys come along and put pressure on guys to post a bit more just to keep up as it can only drive activity throughout the league even higher. So yes it does add pressure but it's not something I'd change if given the choice.
With that in mind, let's look at the change over at Furyland. Myself, blood, eagle, cutty and nuffers have all joined since the back end of season 14. It's a massive change in personell in the space of a relatively short time. How did you see the changes as a veteran Fury?
It's been great, we were really struggling for posters a couple of seasons ago but we've turned that around and find ourselves in a strong position now. We've got a great culture going on at the Furies now also, it's a really tight-knit group we've got together and I honestly couldn't see anyone on our list leaving to go to another club. Losing Fumbles obviously hurts but now we're in the position where we have the posting numbers to cover the loss, we certainly didn't a couple of seasons back.
Yes Fumbles was obviously a massive loss. You mention the times before the big boost in numbers. I remember a while ago on the short lived show "The Sunday Night Roast" (poor form Beez) you gave a very interesting take on the dark times of Furies under Equus. How close do you think the Furies came to folding, or at the very least opening up positions to the "lesser" members of the SFA.
There was never any actual talks between Furies leadership about folding or letting Mud-bloods join (Well not that I was involved in) but I think everyone had a fairly good idea that if things didn't turn around quickly something was going to have to be done.
And so we can safely say that the answer to said probelms were recruiting. Which leads me to my next point, many outsiders would not know this but prior to the season EagleOz started a new thread where the title advertised the Furies. The thread was up for about half day where we saw two new members, including Nuffers. Cutty joined the next day I think. Unfortunately the board only wanted one Furies thread and so they were merged. Do the results of this experiment tell us, that we should have a Furies sign up thread on the Richmond board and have our team thread on the SFA board?
No. Of course if someone posts a new thread it's going to attract short-term interest but having a sign up thread there would just end up doing the same job as the Furies team thread does. Also the Tigers board mods refuse to sticky anything Furies related so eventually a sign up thread would just get lost a few pages back without ongoing posts from team members. I honestly think the system we have at the moment is the most effective we could have.
Well somehow I don't think we've heard the last of this. But we do need to leave it there for the time being. Don't go anywhere folks, BILC is staying with us for his take on more SFA issues and the announcement of next weeks guest is coming up!
