Health Getting hassled while exercising

just feel like the need to clarify an important point......

not all cyclists wear lycra, ride in pelatons or converge on cafes in said lycra...

motorists who get shitty with cyclists should not take it out on us just because they are using an inefficient form of transport for the city....
get on the cycle path punce

Granted can't say I've ever worn heels but i really can't imagine pedaling in an angled shoe with a huge gap in the sole. Then again my bike also has no brakes so without a solid sole on the heel I can't really imagine stopping either :p
Why the hell would you own a bike with no brakes man? They are not aesthetically unappealing and you'd be surprised how useful they are.

Simple solution, if you are a motorist treat cyclists how you would like to be treated and if you are a cyclist treat the motorists how you would like to be treated. I ride to and from work everyday and also ride on weekends quite a bit, if i see a cyclist ride up the inside of traffic (i believe its called "filtering") or turning right by using the pedestrian crossing i dont care because i would do the same thing (and so would you if you are being honest) riding two abreast generally makes it safer (cars tend to actually see two cyclists side by side) but it's not hard to pull over to single file when a car is approaching as well. Truth be told there are as many bad/inconsiderate drivers as their are bad/inconisderate riders. Anyway i tend to not get too much grief excercising, sometimes cop a bit when doing boxing sparring with a mate but that sort of goes with the territory. I really enjoy the odd honk or wolf whistle from a group of girls, i live near the beach and get it occasionally during summer, probably makes you lift the pace a good 15-30 seconds a km, very motivating.

At the risk of sounding gay, that sounds like a great way to completely ruin the shank of the shoe. I hope you don't spend a lot of money on your work heels.

The front calipers seized so i just took them off, the rear brakes just kinda don't really work, they make a lot of noise but don't actually slow you down, probably just needs new pads but eh worst case if I need to stop really fast I can just stand up, take a few running steps and let the bike crash to a stop..

Take your bike to ceres and get them to sort it out.

Risk not averted.

What's the etiquette for cyclists riding past people at traffic lights and roundabouts, essentially meaning the driver has to be delayed yet again by the same cyclist? I think cyclists should stay in the same order of car's as when they approach the lights/roundabout rather than holding up the same cars multiple times. Not to mention its a million times safer for the cyclists rathe than moving into the blindspot of a car that will never check

If you were on a bike would you wait at the back? The appeal of a bike (or motorbike/scooter) is that you can essentially skip traffic, most lanes also have that little bay at the front of the queue specifically for bikes. Once they clear away from the intersection/roundabout bikes should get into the bike lane so cars can overtake, but if you really think that bikes should "line up in traffic" then they should be able to take up a whole lane whilst in traffic and cars would have to change lanes to get around them. Which would you prefer?

I do where it's convenient... I also ride on the roads when they are more convenient... build a bridge and deal with it...

If your idea was introduced, this would ultimately slow traffic down even more for the cars stuck behind the cyclist at the intersection... horrible idea...

Clearly you have never ridden a bicycle in traffic - Cars at the most will be held up a couple of seconds by cyclists. On busy friday afternoons down St Kilda Road or Lygon St or whatever other main road everyone drives down, other motorists will invariably hold up cars more than cyclists....

Depends on the road. Some roads have lanes so narrow that a car cannot get past a cyclist while leaving the requisite 1m gap without changing lanes, which may not always be possible depending on the volume of traffic.

and if it is so busy that you can't change lanes because of traffic, then the bike will end up at the front of the next intersection and away from your sight for good while you are stuck 20 car lengths back at the light -

But they'll have to wait for the cyclist regardless. Still think its far safer for the cyclist to wait so the cars around them know they are there
