If we can't get a Medium Forward, then I'd look at the Houlahan kid in Sth Aust. Good combine results so far, clean marking hands, and booted quite a few goals over there... He's the type that might drift in the picks 20-40 range, slightly under the radar in comparison to Higgins and others.

Gun! I also like Dixon from Tassie - lots of Mitch McGovern about him.

No point going for Watts if we miss out on Stringer and duly lose Motlop, Menzel and Lang. We should just utilise our picks on the best young kids we can get in the next couple of drafts.

We lose Lonergan and Mackie ..yet we have our eyes on Stringer , Smith and Ablett ...and probably then Menz and Mots fall out.

So its hard to see us having a more settled side next year ...again ... we will probably have a disjointed group trying to hold to their spot ...
Even if we get the players we were linked to , it would seem a side that has so many changes year after year that the disruption eventually causes a loss of mesh.
So yes lets get some kids and let them bond together... you know ..like the old days.

If Lang and Motlop go to the Gold Coast we probably end up with Ablett and one of their 2nd rounders(19,23 or 26), would leave us pretty well set, still hoping Menzel resigns doesn't seem that keen to leave.

Starting to smell like the rebuild that so many here have called for.

It will be interesting to see if the rebuild advocates now cry that that the club have burnt its finals chances for a year or two.

Can't have it both ways. Personally I think we need to be both realistic and pragmatic with what we are now apparently faced with. I'd be comfortable missing finals now for a few years in order to bring in some highly rated youngsters with a view to challenging again in 2021ish.

Our disjointed group this year was a result of injuries. Given a clear run I expect good things.

Still reading through the last couple of pages, but don't forget that with the Carji tonight they are running a silent auction and bids can be taken online.

The relevance to this thread - may well be the last chance to pick up a Duncan signed guernsey before he is traded: https://carjigreevesmedal.auction-bid.org/microsite/items/588041

:p

So the youngsters decide after 3 or 4 years to piss off and we are left with big shoes to fill. That becomes a race to chase your arse down a rabbit hole. I'd rather remain in contention with a steady though not extreme supply of new talent.

I'd be happy to have a look at a couple already on our list House and Henry.

Don't think we've ever had a problem with player retention in the past.

AFL site is saying that Smith and Stringer have nominated Essendon. Being in the dark up here away from AFL land, how likely are they (the report) to be on the mark? Is this gamesmanship? filling the news void? or likely to be true? Is it because Essendon have more currency (i.e. draft picks to trade) or is it because we are seen as a crazy club willing to pay top dollar for yesterdays hero?*

(* apologies Vanda and Young)
