WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

Look who just won Richmond's BnF. Short - not necessarily the best defensively, but offers a ridiculous amount of drive and attack off half-back. It's all about balance, we've got more than enough dour-lockdown types, not enough attacking-rebounding types. Teams don't play six threatening forwards anyway, you can carry a couple of guys down back that aren't exceptional one-on-one defenders.

Said before the GF that Short was one we needed to curb his influence. He was allowed in the second half to have far too much of the footy coming out of the back 50. Great little player. Listened to him this morning talking about his father's passing earlier this year. Good on him for being able to play at such an elite level after suffering that trauma.

We are talking about Harry having an unbelievable finals series/year and your talking about moving on at that position and posting about how sometimes backman like Trent McKenzie get plaudits they don’t really deserve.

Taylor destroyed all his opponents this finals series. Which one do you think he got undue credit for?
Undue credit? McK yes..it shows that stats can be deceiving and that the only point I was making in that "comparison". If Hawkins had kicked his goals then that story would have been different.

Harry was not the reason we failed , to keep Lynch and Dixon in control was something id say most would have been concerned about and it wasn't them that hurt us.. but as with all player past performance is not directly related to future performance..especially at 34. Will he be just as good next year?

So if you feel I was disparaging on Taylor based on his finals performance ..it was not my intent only that stats alone is not the full story

So do I want to move on from Taylor...yes..although as I said that same post he has been fantastic but its time to put time into the next gen.
I think it would be hard and harsh to move him on against his wishes if wants to stay when we are bringing in other old players from other clubs... and that if he wants to stay then we probably find a spot..but id also advice he we will be looking to get games into the next gen.. a bit like we have done before ..like with Chappy etc.

Higgins to GWS?

So, Geelong get Cameron
GWS get Higgins
North get ???
Unless Ben Brown is in the mix also and heading to GWS as a Cameron replacement and then North get a combination of picks from GWS and Cats?

North
Out - Ben Brown and Higgins
In - Picks (from Cats and GWS)

Cats
Out - 1st round to GWS for Cameron, 3rd round to North for Higgins
In - Cameron and Higgins

GWS
Out - Cameron, lowish pick to North
In - Ben Brown, 1st round pick

and then there is the extra pick swaps to balance the three main deals out

Yes.

Short hates to defend buts he's run and carry and long kicking super dangerous. .

Brissy made the mistake of playing Rich on Gaz .
Rich bearly had a i50 ..

I doubt it.
But step 1 is seeing if we even need to trade. Free Agency starts this Friday. Lets see what GWS do first.
They've said "we will match". I can't see them losing face and back flipping. Compensation will be pick 9 if they don't match?

I doubt it. He looks like he's about to become a good footballer. So much potential, so much choking. A sports psych could fix that.
can they fix his hands and teach him how to kick too, maybe give him a tank. he shows flashes but hes maybe the most frustrating player on the list. and if we do get cameron i cant see him fitting back in the team.

Feel like in a way, HBF is the most important position of the field and consistently, massively, under-rated. A team that can't exit will struggle - pressure builds up, fatigue builds up, frustration builds up. Personally, I would have preferred Clark's legs and dash to Tuohy's dourness, because both are capable of potting long goals, but it didn't t fit with our philosophy and game plan.

I'd love Nikolas Cox in the draft and think we're desperate for a top-ten mid (with Phillips the dream), but it would be great to see us spend a pretty good pick on a quality halfback flanker like Clark. There's no harm having two, and Clark's best position might well be the wing. If we are talking to Freo about Clark (and I really hope we aren't), North will have got the jump on us in clearly thinking ahead to Hayden Young by looking to pick up Young's brother. It's the kind of move the Cats would make - wish we'd thought of it, although it would turbo-charge the Clark to Dockers rumours and I don't want that ...

It was their CEO who came out talking tough. He said they will likely match. Their list manager simply said they will explore their options.
Yeah pick 9 or 10. Either one as they will probably get the other from the Zac Williams move.

How does the free agent period work, do we have to make the first move and offer a contract as a RFA? If so i hope we do that Friday so we can see if they will match. Im assuming that offer needs to be accepted by Cameron first.

We'll put in the FA offer on Friday and the Giants have 48 hrs to match.

On the Couch highlighted our big slow backline last night and said you can't beat Richmond with that set up.

Pick 2 key defenders to play on Lynch and Riewoldt.
Pick 1 mobile defender to play on Martin.
Pick 3 smalls to play on their smalls.

My match ups would be

Blicavs on Lynch
Kolo/Henry on Riewoldt
Rohan on Martin
Clark, Stewart and Bews on the smalls
O'Connor 7th man rotation

Rohan in defense? Maybe Rohan is the answer to the red nut tagger we've been looking for :p

Essendon reportedly circling Dunkley with a 4/5 year contract worth 600-650k per year. I would love for us to go after him as a left field option. Fills such a void in our team.

Apart from Dangerfield, when was the last time we actually went after a gun midfielder of a young age, Josh Caddy?
It's not really something we like to do.
It's often the likes of Scott Selwood, Dahlhaus, Ablett, Stevens and now Higgins.
Dunkley would be perfect for us.

Yup, I would rather chase younger players like Dunkley, Jack Higgins, and Balta rather than Shaun Higgins, Smith, and any other oldie we've been linked to.

If its going to end up a trade, doubt free agency even gets lodged.

If free agency gets lodged, there is only 2 scenarios.

He either goes via the draft or Giants accept compensation.

Unless GWS will just accept the compensation I think we will be waiting for the end of the FA period to find out what happens.

Sounds crazy but might not be ... at one game at Metricon there was a bit of disorganization among the Cats. Rohan jogged on (well ... at about twice my top speed) and realised there was no place in the forward line, then ditto in the mids. Trotted over to half back flank and picked up his man, with no fuss (as compared to a player much loved by fans, who crankily ordered someone else out of their position so he could take it. Maybe moustaches make you cranky ...)

Anyway, back to Rohan: stayed on his man, beat him well in a couple of contests, then trotted forward about five minutes later when able. At the time what impressed was his "just get it done" attitude, but him at HBF for a spell now and again might not be the craziest idea.
