WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

How is both clubs saying their player wants to stay different, contract doesn't mean anything these days, if Witherden went to them and said I want to be traded it would more than likely happen.

The difference is Cameron was on record looking for different offers. Witherden hasn't been doing that at all, it's the other clubs who were interested in him. He also brought a house up here and has a partner as well and is contracted until the end of 2022. It's not really comparable at all, and again, there is no evidence at all that Witherden has looked elsewhere.

I just dont see how Higgins could be involved in the Cameron trade, think that's complete rubbish.
Yeah I don't see it either. Unless they plan to give GWS pick 9 somehow.
Most likely complete rubbish (which is what most of the stuff is at this time of year)

Given current confirmed and strong player movement into the club rumours (and if list size of 38 next year is accurate), we still likely need to move 3 players on just to accommodate Cameron. Every player after that we need to either move someone on or delist them. (This is my understanding anyway)

I understand what your saying but do you really think because Noble said he loves it up their that he wouldn't look at offers if they were presented to him, never count anything out, like i said he isnt getting a game so clubs will be enquiring whether you like it or not. Not saying he will go but if you think a contract means anything in this day and age you're wrong. But anyway its only this board that is saying we like Witherden, Geelong has not once come out and said it so i dont think you have anything to worry about.

No he's not

Noble confirmed that Witho loves it up here and wants to stay

Alright buddy he also said "He loves it up here and at this stage we expect him to be here". Talked also about Birchall staying.

I was listening to the actual interview and it was classic pre trade week 101. At no stage did he rule out him leaving. Just talked around it with current facts. When they say “at this stage” ring the bell.

We're not.

But he's a local and with Nakia going to Brisbane some fans think we should trade Nakia for him.
Sounds a bit like the talk around Clark to WA, combination of a young player with a loose connection to home and wishful thinking.

Key words there were "At this stage" meaning things could change!!!

We can keep him until the end of 2022 if we like. Sydney were able to retain papley by keeping him to his contract, and the only way I see the club being swayed to trade him would be if an opposition club came in with a great offer. I don't see trying to add him to the cockatoo trade (where we already have the currency to get him) would be enough.

Im not sure what you are getting at, of course you can keep him, nobody is denying that but dont compare him to Papley who is probably Sydneys best player to a bloke that cant get a game, thats just ludicrous. And Cockatoo isnt a free agent so we dont have to let him go cheap but we arent that type of club.

After you have shut this down head over to the Freo board and shut the Jordan Clark thread down. Who would have thought people talk about players in trade week that are openly being discussed in the media. Your own football boss was just discussing this non issue on radio.

Higgins to GWS?

So, Geelong get Cameron
GWS get Higgins
North get ???

Absolute garbage Turbo. Hawkins had 7 marks inside 50 and 6 shots. To compare Taylor to McKenzie as a classic example of a good game being “exaggerated” is laughable

Dixon was absolutely pathetic and had 6 possessions 0 marks. Cox 4 possessions, Hipwood 5 possessions and Lynch 8 possessions most in the last.

It was an incredible finals series and a terrific years. If he wasn’t 34 then people be giving it the credit he deserves.

To those that think Hendo can play on the gorillas I just giggle.

So you think McKenzie played well against Hawkins? Hawkins outplayed him yet failed to score ...so on paper many said he did well. I think think that Hawk's lack of conversion was what determined who played well in some eyes.

Cameron is out of contract, Witherden is contracted until the end of 2022. Big difference.

Also, witherden just brought a house up here and has a partner. All i'm saying is that the only way he will be leaving is if the club decides to trade him out.
Sounds very similar to the Caddy situation a few years ago

- he recently bought a house in Geelong
- he liked it at the club & the club wanted him to stay
- continual talk about his future during the trade period and what do you know what... He ends up at Richmond

Being contracted & having recently bought a house really don't mean shit unfortunately - what matters more is the player coming out & saying "I'm going no where"; doesn't seem to carry as much weight when it's the club saying it

And if buying a house in a certain location was relevant to which club was player would be at the following year - while still at GWS, Devon Smith bought a house in Geelong but never showed interest in playing for the club

Maybe Witherden is looking at building a property portfolio...

No I don’t. In your comparison Dixon is the one who played well and Taylor just got lucky. My original point stands.

Which comparison? I simply made the point that sometimes stats can be deceiving by referencing that game against Hawkins. Never even mentioned Dixon or Taylors effort on Dixon.

We are talking about Harry having an unbelievable finals series/year and your talking about moving on at that position and posting about how sometimes backman like Trent McKenzie get plaudits they don’t really deserve.

Taylor destroyed all his opponents this finals series. Which one do you think he got undue credit for?

So he may now have purchased a holiday house. Nice one.

On the Couch highlighted our big slow backline last night and said you can't beat Richmond with that set up.

Pick 2 key defenders to play on Lynch and Riewoldt.
Pick 1 mobile defender to play on Martin.
Pick 3 smalls to play on their smalls.

My match ups would be

Blicavs on Lynch
Kolo/Henry on Riewoldt
Rohan on Martin
Clark, Stewart and Bews on the smalls
O'Connor 7th man rotation
