Needs to bulk up yet but isn't a bad prospect long term, dont think hes on the board unless we trade up though clearly the best key back behind Gibcus available, should go in that 15-30 range for mine.

Id be surprised if he went that early. Still quite raw for an early pick although has some great attributes.

Really need to sort out our onball brigade. Too one paced. Guthrie, Parf, Joel, Mitch all very similar. Danger is still the only one offering break away speed. This is why Chook can't get a game despite averaging close to 20 touches at AFL level and 30 odd with the Bankers and also why we can't consider a player like Dunstan. It also means that unless MOC is going to flat out smother his opponent, he is a liability in the middle.

Problem is, Narkle is or at least should be, our next option who offers a bit of leg speed but we refuse to play him. I have heard that Max Holmes is significantly quicker but until he actually uses his pace in a game, he really doesn't deserve to be in the mix. Unfortunately we have no one else on our list that has toe and can play in the guts.

Finding a few players that can burst away is a must. Danger won't be there forever and the lure to play him forward is only getting stronger. We have a few holes that need to be filled in our list but mids with speed should be a very high priority.

I suspect the club acknowledges they need speed in the midfield and would love to have it. Holmes has incredible speed but is only 18. He will be a star, give him time. We all love Narkle but he didn’t have a tank often only played 60% of game time, next year will be better after another pre season. Hopefully Stephens has speed?? Only other changes to the mid could be Close in there (amazing hands but is he quick enough?) and Evans in the pocket? I’d hope we draft a quick midfielder but suspect they will all be gone by time our picks roll around unless we move up the order.

The other consideration, has Lipinski given any indication he wants to move from Melbourne to play elsewhere?

Thought the suggestion had been Carlton or Collingwood if he was to leave the Bulldogs

So while we can dream, also gotta look at the other side of things and what the players dreaming about
Not that I have heard ... but I have a feeling Geelong would not necessarily be chasing him and have other avenues in mind anyways.

Personally I think he's a good fit. Age and potential wise. He would want guaranteed game time though and our ageing midfield is holding on for dear life so he may not get the instant opportunities and consistency he is after for another year.

You are right though. The GFC is not for everyone and Collingwood/Carlton still have a lot of prestige.

Cooper Stephens. I watched him at under age level and regularly burst out of stoppages. He's also a good user of the ball.

Players with pace who are also useful footballers are not as easy to find. The ones who can combine an inside game with breakout pace are usually the top mids in the game.
I think what we need to change is out ball movement. You can get away with not having quick players by improving your ball movement. And we do have some quality runners like Smith and Menegola.

Sounds like we talking to Tucker .
I'd rather take a speculative punt on a young player like Beecken. Same position, left footer, nice kick, good decision maker, usually hits his target or at least puts it to his teammates advantage.

That said, my preference would be to give Nick Stevens some game time because he also plays that role.

Likewise but I think it's even better than that (I assume you also mean this BTW), he's not super quick but he can burst because he has outstanding reading of the play, he's not a traditionally elite user of the ball, he's more a neat user, but he just makes the right decisions and doesn't panic under pressure.
It's a bit like some of our old midfielders, Corey, Bartel, Selwood, they weren't genuinely quick or elite users, they were amazing at reading the play and making astute decisions ball in hand. Cooper has those same traits IMO.
I REALLY hope we get to see him next season.

Talking to a Freo fan mate of mine yesterday & he really wants to keep Tucker, says the last 2 years have been basically a write off for injury & there was thought previously that he could play a similar role to what Libba plays for the Dogs to allow Cerra & Brayshaw to play more balanced inside/outside games obviously it hasn’t worked out that way. I’d still be a no but it has swayed me somewhat.

Watching the SA v Allies under 19’s game today I like the look of Hugh Stagg (SA). 20 Pos and 3 goals looks like a gen Forward / Mid, solid good user and kicked some nice goals. Also liked the look of Harvey Harrison (SA) was a good user kicking inside 50 also. Neither on any top 30 rankings I have seen so a chance around our picks.

Anyone else see these two play / thoughts?

Play a Libba role? The bloke is built like a match stick at 80 kegs ringing wet and has averaged 5 contested possession in 6 season. Does he have the right player?

Not sure why we are into Darcy Tucker.
If we want a player like that, we may as well elevate Darcy Lang to the senior list.

Has Sam simpson and Zac Guthie resigned yet
I think Simpson re-signed for 2 years last year

And not sure Zuth has resigned yet, but the suggestion is he'll re-sign to extend his stay at Geelong

I’m not anti Tucker per se. Just that getting him can’t be independent of the Clark negotiations and will inevitably dilute what we get for Clark.

In order of preference:
1. Keep Clark and make him honour his contract, hoping we can convince him to stay next year
2. Get as high compensation as we can for him
3. Get Tucker and a slight upgrade in picks

Played mainly as a mid in 2019 and was the last time he really had an extended run at it, 20 touches a game wasn't bad numbers from someone who was only really a kid at the time and behind some good mids in the pecking order aswell, would be where I'd be playing him if we brang him across.

Do you think by player like that the club is chasing someone named Darcy? After missing out on Sean Darcy Wells has been searching for another Darcy.

Has Lang’s leg healed enough for him to kick on it yet? Because he spent all year kicking with his other foot unable to kick properly on his natural. A great effort to still have that skill at vfl level but that in its self rules him out of an AFL career.

Up until this year - i didnt rate him at all

Mind you - he has been treated by Longmuir - directly polar opposite to the dream run Dahlaus has got from Scott

Honestly Tucker has been right on the outer with the Fremantle selection committee - just had to sneeze - look your dropped

2nd half of this year - he got a run of games - and i thought he was ok to slightly impressive - got good leg speed -he moves alright - if he came to Geel - who have got a more skilful and talented team than Frem - i think he would do well

Get Parish!

The way he explained it to me was that 2019 was the first time he was really tried inside & it was promising he would obviously need to bulk a little bit if that was the role he will/wants to play going forward & he hasn’t played that under Longmuir, as far as the comparisons to Libba I think he just meant it a inside mid with a more defensive minded role compared to his counterparts, physically there’s like a 1cm and 3 KGs difference between them so not to far fetched.

Agreed.

Tucker is a decent half back but not a high enough priority to be working into the clark deal. Because he is uncontracted we could get him separately to trading clark anyway.

He wasnt dropped this year tucker was coming back from a serious hamstring injury. When he has been fit theyve basically always picked him as far as im aware.

Your quite correct - ive mixed them up - just looked at Freos list - and they had the players picture next to the players profile

Ive been talking about Connor Blakely - hah - he was the one they get sending back - dropping to the WAFL -2nd half of this year when finally given an opportunity i thought e did ok

So totally ignore what i said about Tucker - because i was thinking of a different player in Blakely

His leg has healed enough for him to play, but sounds like his preference is to play predominantly as a left footer, though he did occasionally kick on his right
