I’m not sure Blicavs is a full time KPD. He lacks defensive smarts. His big benefit is his tank such that he can play as a relieving ruck and push hard back to assist in the back 50. I think SDK is going to be a better option in that key defensive post pretty quickly.

I agree his tank is a benefit in ruck but a lot of good key forwards (lynch kennedy darling etc) have huge tanks so its a benefit there too. Apart from his kicking (which can be mitigated by the right gameplan from our defense coach)he is very very good as a defender..people have forgotten how good he is in defence as the last 2 years weve had to use him to plug holes elsewhere. I really rate sdk but he isnt physically ready yet i think he will get to a high level but not for 2-3 years yet.

How would people feel if we could somehow turn Narkle and Clark into Sean Darcy?

Id be fine with it but it will take way more than that to get darcy. I doubt freo trade him at all.

I'll chip in here, honestly, Meek is the one you should be going after. Poor dude is behind the best young ruck in the AFL but the times he got a game at the start of the year he 100% looks like he belongs.

He has better mobility and foot skills than Darcy, and is deceptively fast (while it was against Flynn and the witches hats version of GWS, watch our game against them for his work if your bored). He is already too good for WAFL and is still really young, I think he'll end up being a Witts story for someone, Sandi seems to be a real good developer of young rucks.

As Pure_Ownage has said, if you actually managed to convince Darcy to leave (and by all accounts he loves it here), he would cost you something you would be very uncomfortable with until he likely wins you a flag. Compare his stats to Gawn for this year and understand he just turned 23.

And if Freo are after a quality rebounding defender, Tom Stewart isn’t the man you need. Go for Zac Guthrie. He beat his opponent once. Pretty sure he’s a star in the making.

It is worth noting that blitz is a much better ruck now than early days.

He certainly is but it robs our defence and we need a better full time ruck option anyway if we are not to waste our hawkins/cameron flag window.

I assume it'd cost as little as a 3rd given we wouldnt have a leg to stand on but some of the trades for rucks the last few years have been head scratchers, might be a little more than that

I tend to agree with that..Freo would want a very very high price for Darcy and rightly so and im not sure if its a price we can or would pay. Hes worth paying it if we can find a way but i think he will be happy to stay with you which is good for you.

On Meek my only worry is he doesnt have as much exposed form as Darcy so is he ready to be no1ruck yet? Which is what you need. But as you say he seems to have some good attributes and a great ruck coach which is a plus. Do you think he will stay and what do you think he is worth in a trade?

Thats true..i think if we could get someone more established like darcy we would just so its not so much a leap of faith in a flag window but anything that improves our ruck stocks i imagine we'd look at. I actually like rata as a player but his ruck technique is poor and his tank isnt there yet so we need a more reliable technique tap ruck who can follow up at clearances and stop quick exits from there (as it exposes our backline under 6 6 6)..basically like a reject shop version of darcy..if meek can do that id be interested.

If you look at it gws paid 31 for preuss (they were desperate for a ruck at the time)but witts was a pick in the 40s hickey was a mid 30s and some other rucks like pittonet have been traded more around the 50s mark so i imagine a R3 is probably about all meek would get unless he gets enough afl gametime this year to increase his value.

Glen Jacovich was pretty useful as a CHB who could occasionally play forward. He might end up that type.

He was a gun CHB but more a straight lines player. Not sure he could have rucked or played on the ball/wing like I think SDK might end up doing.

I still think we'll end up with Darcy. If not, I'd be trying to entice Flynn from GWS or Meek.

Then I'd be developing players at VFL level in the position they're best suited.

I can’t recall who it was, but years ago I remember a commentator saying you don’t drive a Rolls Royce off-road in reference to playing a gun CHF in the ruck (again can’t recall which player they were referring to?). Same with SDK - I’d be nervous until he really fills out playing him in the ruck. If he turns out to be a gun KP player, then probably ever.

No to Chol..hes ok but hes not a no1 ruck hes only playing there because all their other rucks are injured..we dont need any more utility talls we need a clear durable capable no1 ruck (ie we need darcy or a cheaper player of that type).

I do rate both briggs and flynn but i think both being academy players will be very hard to prise out. More likely preuss moves clubs again probably.

I havent seen much of meek but freo wont ever really be able to fit him and darcy in the same side their preferred model will always be darcy 80 % plus lobb or treacy or cox pinch hitting the rest...it doesnt make sense to play 2 specialist rucks. So if he has ability you could likely tempt him with more gametime.

I cant agree Chol has upside and athleticism, more than most available. Yes only playing because of injuries. But so is CCJ. Same logic.

But I am not so fixated on one option that I exclude others... I have no faith we can get Darcy here in 2022, and after him, our choices are an accommodation. The GWS guys , I like but I have doubts on their quality atpit when Mummy is still good enough to be preferred.

He seems to fit what I want , which is someone with expossed form , someone who has been in the system developing yet still young. Quality is questionable but he is being kept out by a good ruckman. At his age, most ruckmen will only get better.

What has he been like when playing forward? Can he mark and be a forward option. What his stamina like?

I love Clark and reckon he'll be elite, but I'm coming around to the idea of shipping him out to get Darcy.

At his age and development. Probably little to lose long term by adding someone like that ...the only question is if he could handle being #1 in 2022
