Do you think that would be the total deal? Our Fr1 and Narkle? I cant believe they would do it for that.
Well they'd be getting Bolton too.

We will know soon enough if he is staying at Freo. If his manager is any good he will get a lucrative extension out of Freo, maximising his good form this season.

I agree with that. If hes smart he either pushes freo for a long term deal now or tries to get a trade out to a long term deal at another club. Maximise his value.

Richmond wont trade bolton for a pick outside the top 10 (or equivalent in terms of other picks or players) and freo arent trading the best young ruck in the comp while contracted for a teens pick and a player who isnt clear best 22 with us. We can get darcy this year potentially but id be staggered if the price isnt a lot higher than that.

The other issue for us is if Freo lose Cerra to vic for picks i cant see them being willing to lose darcy in the same off season just for picks even if we offer a fair price as they would want a 'name' in the trade..think good young players coming home they can sell that PR wise. I honestly think our chances of getting darcy this year depend on cerra staying there..if he doesnt unless they get some super talent back the other way..for eg if bolton decides to go to freo, narkle goes with him, clark and/or other picks are involved..then they might feel thats a trade they can sell to their members. If we get darcy this year the price it will cost us will be more than we want to pay but that doesnt necessarily make it the wrong call.

Agree with all that. Long term they may even be better off if they can "Kelly" us. They can cover Darcy, perhaps not quite as good but the added parts they would get could make then good. If they loose Cerra (OOC), they need to get Bolton or we have no chance. Too much loss of face.

Narkle is an out of contract fringe player who no one wanted last year. I rate him as a player but trade wise he doesnt have the value you think he does..darcy is worth more than pick 15ish and narkle and richmond and freo would both want more. For eg geel would have to add our ess R2 on top of the Fr1, both those picks go to richmond..and freo might want something else..or clark will also be involved as a piece somewhere..a Fr1 and narkle alone for a contracted darcy is highway robbery and wont happen.
They might want more but they won't get it.

Bolton is worth around pick 13-18 on his own imo so basically Freo get Bolton and Narkle (whose upside is huge) for Darcy and Richmond get that pick from Geelong for Bolton.

Tom Mitchell went for pick 14 and he's a better footballer than Bolton.

Let's not forget Bolton is uncontacted too so if he wants out Richmond don't have much of an option.

Unless bolton is willing to risk the draft which i doubt richmond will get more than that imo.

Regardless that wasnt my point my point was darcy is worth far more than a teens pick (or player equivalent) and a fringe player..every list manager in the comp would trade that for him in a heartbeat..it would take a lot more than pick 15 and narkle (clark, neale, picks etc..you get the idea) to get darcy here i reckon.

I suspect Bolton and Cerra could be sort used in a deal of some sort.

The question to me is .... Does Narkle, Clark, Neale and our picks offer enough to get Freo to release him. Do those players want to go to Freo. Deals involving players seem much harder to organise

Sydney didnt have the cap space to keep mitchell (this was well known) and he was prepared to go the draft because he just wanted back to vic (he wanted hawthorn but he would have been prepared to go that way from what i read at the time) im not sure those factors are the same in boltons case but we will see.

Why would they. Atm Darcy is coming of age. Getting best on grounds. A 23 year old ruckman. Clark is not getting a game..and who knows wha our R1 next year will be.

Id say unless you feel like we have lost the deal , then its probably not enough.

Till Darcy is OOC and says he wants geelong, I cant see him going anywhere.
Like I said its worth asking the question? Just like we did with TDK, you can always ask the question, but doesn't mean he will... Screenshot_20210609-171544_Facebook.jpg

All things being equal why would you stay at Freo with their lack of success when you can go to a club with a strong final history?

Thats an interesting question. Things have changed and players expected success much quicker. At 23 , is he happy to stay and persist for a while, does he want to stay with mates etc.

I wonder if we had not had success when we did, would we be able to retain al those guys like Corey and Enright etc. Why stay at Geelong a club with 50 or 60 years without a flag etc.

Its funny how much WA players going back seem to prefer WCoast. The successful strong club

Richmond wouldn't have the cap space to trump a Freo offer for Bolton either.

I have no doubt we will do that. And I suspect we may have a TDK response.

I think the club has said before they maintain contact with most the Falcons that fly interstate.

Yeah they havnt won a flag, but look at other teams, they got a good core of players freo, plenty of good youth, the drought will brake one day for them, and one day they will win a flag.. could be 5 years, it could be 15 years...

I personally think they do because they have key retirements coming and they dont have a buddy deal on their cap. But we will see.

They are nowhere near it and haven’t been for a long long time

unless they are offering him insane money I don’t know why he would stay

Yep you and i think the same especially re loss of face. If they lose cerra unless they get bolton no chance they trade darcy as well. In terms of value i reckon darcy is worth one top 10 pick plus another in the 15-20 range (i know thats a steep price but quality rucks are rarer than mids)and we are unlikely to have or be able to directly get a top 10 pick. Currently id rate clark as worth a mid R2, narkle a R3 and neale probably R3/4 mark (i rate the first two especially as players but i dont think their trade value is that high). So if you consider say pick 5-10 and a late R1 (with maybe something later coming back) as darcys fair value you probably need to be giving up all of our Fr1, essendons R2,clark and narkle before its approaching fair..im still not sure even at that pricd that they would trade him..hed have to push hard to want out.

Mitchell P14 ... I wonder what they think they will get for an older , lesser player after the leg. Take late R1 and run? If we didn't have Selwood then id consider him. Played well v the swans. I wonder where he lands. Blues or Ess ?

Dusty and Lynch are on big long term deals.

Im aware but cotchin and riewoldt will go within the next 18 months you suspect as will houli and edwards and grimes and astbury will either be close behind them or go onto reduced $. Thats a lot of cap freed up.
