Not dumb at all. It must be a factor. My question is ..will the persistence with Sav reap awards. The flex idea is fair enough but if a player is good enough , one really only denies oneself the services of the best. Would we say Hawkins or Selwood are flex type players? Its about the quality as much as anything. Is a player like Meek good enough to break thru that to make him a must pick sole position player? I think Cameron has shown something around the ground and forward so 100% infelx.

What I think we like as much as flex is mobility. Blitz adds run to our mid group. If there was a ruck around who could run like Blitz , I suspect we would be after him hard. We appear to rate that far more than the bounce and the tap.

they did chase Goldstein hard before he decided to stick with north, which makes me think it’s more a logic of only going for pure rucks who are A grade standard, preferring a flex key position player as opposed to an ordinary quality pure ruck, they must see far more overall value in this ideology as a whole sum.

quality top tier rucks are as hard to come by as key forwards… the club could have picked up an array of second tier ones by now if they wanted.

I honestly think it’s a logic they have settled on that it’s either quality ruck or it’s a flex key position player, with no settlement on an average ruckman.

The thing about Miers and Close is that they both have serious tanks. One minute close is in the backline the next he’s roving the fwdline.

close is really sharp… his possessions are clean, he reads the play well, he is poised and composed with the footy. There is a lot to like about him and can see his best footy occurring with another 2-3 pre seasons to his name much like puopolo got better with age at hawthorn as a mature Ager.

LOL, who writes this sh*t after literally nobody wanted him pre season
We don't know that as fact either. I haven't seen a direct quote from him, his manager or the club.

Liam Duggan will be in the hoops next year.
Usually on the money with Football stuff.

The questions I've asked and haven't been able to get an answer to, which surely shouldn't be a hard question to answer: "What's Constable's hurt factor?" & "What planning would opposition coaches put into him?"

I get that he can rack up the touches, especially at VFL level, but how damaging are his disposals:
- is he getting the ball to teammates on the outside or teammates closer to the contest?
- does he break away from the contest by putting on a step or a fend off & creating from there?
- what sort of link up play is he involved with
- what does he do when he doesn't have the ball, in terms of when teammates are in possession, when the opposition is in possession & when the ball is in dispute

I agree with you - if he's traded at seasons end then he's traded, so be it

And if we applied those same questions to Higgins, Dahl and Esava?

They wouldn't pass the test either. Yet......

I like the player and rate him highly but do we need a 187cm half back?

Goes back to what I was saying a while ago. He's a local here from Bacchus Marsh.

Hah sure, but with Kolo signing an extension I'd say the odds that the whinging stops are long regardless
I think they might go quiet if he’s playing VFL. Then again, they’ll probably just moan that we signed a VFL player for three years!

That would be good although WCE will ask a lot for him. If we can get it done for one of our R2s id be happy but they will probably push for more.

Pretty much our entire defence is already or will be 26 or over next year (atkins will be 26 and moc 25) and guys like hendo and tuohy are nearing the end age wise so getting another defender who is mid 20s rather than 30s isnt bad for the demographic of the back 6.

I am not sure Meek is scream anything ......but..... Fort V Meek for me ...it make sense to have a younger guy , who has been in the system for multiple years who is at a club with a quality ruck keeping him out. He may do nothing more than what Fort does but at some point in time you rewind the clock.

I am happy that we seem to have at least returned to grooming young types but drafting rucks is a long process and unless you find a Darcy, a players of Meeks age and grooming is whispering to me that he should be close to being ready to play. Probably not dominate but ready to play, and by playing he probably keeps developing.

Yeah I mean better younger players are always handy but I just look at the age demographic of the midfield and think it looks older. I guess I'm not really calculating Tuohy as a defender and locking in SDK as a hendo replacement. Stewart the next oldest but probably 4ish years left in the tank?

If we're thinking Meek and Fort are rough equivalents though why wouldn't we just stick with Fort? He's probably got enough years in him that either Sav starts delivering or Tsapatolis and/or Neale start to deliver.

Bring in a younger guy and you also lock yourself into that younger player. Double edged sword.

Good footballer and would slot in beautifully at the Cats.

Fort may have a chance to show what he can do next year. If Stanley goes, he is contracted.

I am saying a player like Meek, there are others..lets say sweet ... we add for min cost .. and it rewinds the age profile. Sweet 24 next year 5 games , Meek 24 next year 4 games. , Fort 28 in Aug , 29 next year , 8 games.

From that POV , Fort was not even drafted till he was 25, and maybe next year will do the trick.. but we need to maintain our list and adding a ruck in the 24 age profile is probably smart business as Fort is more likely to be more of the same.

Tsap and Neale are YEARS away from giving us a ruckman. Neale may be a forward. Tsap is a question mark till we see him develop but who knows , he maybe a backman... or we may have two rucks... in 2025/6.

WE need to cover that period and if they develop quicker, so be it, then the best ruck plays. Meek or Sweet or even Cameron should look at our list and see a chance to be number 1.

Was it you? Some one mentioned his name.

He looks like what our club would find appealing. Mature body. Localish type wanting to come back (not Falcon but similar)

Probably covers the ground well etc etc.
