KPD's:
Blicavs
SDK
Kolo

Other defenders:
Tuohy
Stewart
Guthrie
Bews
Atkins
O'Connor
Henry

Henry and Stewart are capable playing key defensive positions as well. We don't need cooked potatoes like Talia on the list.

None of those other guys are capable of playing on the gorilla forwards all year if blitz goes down or has to ruck. Thats not depth.

None of SDK, Kolodjashnij, Henry or Stewart have shown their capable of playing on opposition forwards like the King twins, Dixon, Harry McKay, Walker etc

I want to see SDK getting games next season but at this stage I don't know if he's ready to be carrying the load as our FB

An experienced tall defender would be good insurance

Agree.

I see both sides of it. None of the tradeable in options would i give up a high pick for.
A couple id be keen on for later picks like lynch.
And id like us to have 2-3 picks inside 35.
But if we go into next year with 31yo stanley sav neale and tsapa as our only rucks and blitz dek henry and kolo as our only tall backs thats stupid imo-one injury and we are in real trouble.
Maybe we add a couple of mature talls as rookies so it doesnt compromise our main draft picks but id be surprised if we dont reinforce those areas in some form.

I’d look at the likes of Kieran Strachan (25), and Lynch (23), as ruck depth.

Not sure on KPD options but agree we are a little thin. Talia is about to turn 30 and coming off knee/foot issues. Hard pass for me. Anyone you like as depth there?

Strachan re-signed.
Lynch i like because he is ooc and they need bid points so i reckon you could get him for a late R3 or something.
I agree ideally i would like someone younger than Talia.
Not a lot of obvious options off the top of my head-id consider clurey if cheap (but he wont be) a lot of the other guys id like would cost too much. Skinner as a rookie wouldnt be the worst idea.

As mentioned earlier about Lewis Young, it’s more of a guess piece.
Here’s the important bits bolded.

I want Sweet

Western Bulldogs ruck-defender Lewis Young is set to meet with rival clubs over the weekend despite having an offer to stay at the Grand Finalists on the table, reports AFL Media.

The 22-year-old is yet to sign a two-year contract, given to him by the Bulldogs before the finals, and will explore his options.

Carlton is a potential candidate, seeking key position depth, while ruck-needy sides like Geelong and Brisbane also make sense.

Young played nine games in 2021, including two finals in the ruck, before Stefan Martin was fit enough to take his place in the preliminary and Grand Final.

A 202cm utility, Young was drafted as a key forward but has primarily played in defence at the Bulldogs before his ruck time this season. He was selected with pick 49 in the 2016 national draft.

Rival clubs have also shown interest in out-of-contract Bulldogs ruckman Jordon Sweet.

You would think Young has a bit more upside... But he's not a ruck, and he's originally a Key Forward turned Key Defender. So he's not a natural at the roles we want, and was behind Gardner (who we delisted) as a Bulldogs Key Defender.

The other option is Sam Skinner in SANFL as a Key Defender. 197cm, 98kgs. Was clunking a few marks there this year. Probably a Rookie? or Late Draft pick?

Yes this is very left field.... so don't go giving me bashing for this idea...

Esava doing a pre-season at CHB 🤷‍♂️ is it wort seeing how he goes? Look he hasn't done much to be excited in the forward?

Worth a try?

Thoughts...
Please take it easy on me

very old school.. not getting a kick then chuck them back!

Rohan (in defence) has merit but I think Esava lacks the football nous and general skills

Like the look of Strachan. Shame he re-signed. Jordon Sweet (23), is another ruck option.

Not a huge fan of Clurey. Think we can do better at a much lower cost. Can’t really comment on Skinner as I don’t know much about him. Ex-Brisbane?

Foxy you’ve had too many beers
Go to bed
Struggles to read the game as a forward, would be a disaster in defence where you need 2 key skills, reading the play and marking. No doubt he can mark but a forward like Franklin would have a field day on him.

If we let Esava go, you could bring in Mason Cox as a direct replacement, he is a good pinch hit ruck/marking forward and when the Pies beat the Tigers in 2018 it was off his marking game up the wing. Reads the play better but wouldn't want Cox because he is currently 30.

Honestly would rather next year Sav gets a whole year in the VFL and plays strictly key forward, work on his goal kicking and work on reading the play. He has terrible forward awareness and literally is only useful if the ball is kicked long and high for him to fly at, or if it hits him on a direct lead/ground ball get in a pack.
With his complete lack of footy iq he’d be an absolute disaster down back.

Can I delete my post , and we all just forget I even suggested this as a option?

I think Sweet would probably be the better option from the Bulldogs. I hope we steer clear of bitsa players like Young. I’d prefer a genuine ruckman as back up.

A few have mentioned Skinner. I’ll do some homework.

Yeah the ex brisbane defender. Almost rookie listed by nth melb this year then has had a good year in the SANFL. Obviously his injury history is a worry but if he passes a medical id rookie him.

In my opinion if it means anything, Charlie Con needs a block of 8 games promised barring injury etc, to end this debate of if he is afl standard.
The bottom line is we all really still don't know, if not delist now and stop wasting everyones time including charlies, it is reported his low tank,
well we need to see his low tank, or if he can overcome that with smart play, we just don't know including coaches, the coaches think they know
but do they really, heaps of players in comp have surprised at next level, play him or delist and maybe get embarrassed, he won't be reason we lose
games there are 21 others if he can't pull his weight.

calder_daddy before you tell me go to bed 1 more time.
I think its worth giving Brownless another year on the rookie list.. he has show heaps this year. He was always going to take a while when he got drafted...
That I can get behind

Definitely happy for Brownless to get another year but what do people see as his potential AFL-quality attributes? Does he come in to play that Dahlhaus role in the forward line?

They won't get rid of him. His surname will give him a few extra years. I thought in his draft year Kennerly who we had was a better player, and we delisted him after 2 years. I think with the age demographics at the club, Brownless will be on the list for another 2 years is my guess.

He has a massive engine, but apparently he is slow. Not sure if he reads the play exceptional or just average. I thought he was going to be an outside midfielder but if he lacks pace, then maybe a development into an inside midfielder?

Just would like to add to Charlie constable post from b4, as an Australian one thing that was a given in our country and culture
was that it was a place where you would be given a fair go, i think Charlie has now earnt his right to be given a fair go heaps of
other players who are now or were involved at cats including coaches were given a fair go.

Who knows Charlie may be able to get the ball b4 petracca no one knows when its the real thing, he might not too, but we just don't know,
remember petracca was average and now in the convo with martin, Charlie doesn't appear to be in their class true, but he may be able to
get the ball before they do in the guts. Past premiership players at the cats were played and learnt their mistakes, they were given a fair go.

Well po delisting them after chances they have had why draft in first place, Joel corey sprayed the ball every where he kicked it early days
and he turned out an absolute champion because he was played through that, i really can't see the point in giving them a game, like sdk
and fort, and kruger, if you think they deserve a game they need to be shown confidence in them, i know you can't play them all at once
straight up needs to be staggered.
