If Carlton's pick falls our way (Clark)... Conner McDonald all day every day. Be a steal if he dropped that far.
Ned Long instead of Blake Howes.
Brown & Murley i wouldn't say no to, but with Conway still available we'd be silly not to take with our last pick IMO.

Don't know anything about him but I just read he's prone to bombing long and his player comparison is Ben Keays. Really hope both of those are untrue.

According to the Fox Footy team:

GEELONG CATS

Ideal trade scenario:
They demand a pick in the teens for Jordan Clark and get it from Fremantle, re-entering the first round, while the Magpies are willing to give up a future third-round pick for fringe tall Nathan Kreuger - and after a poor 2022 for the men in black and white, that ends up being a late-30s selection. The Cats even find a suitor for Charlie Constable in a clogged midfielder market, adding another pick in the late 30s/early 40s for a bloke with five games in two seasons to his name. The three departures open up just enough space for the Cats to launch a move for Port Adelaide’s Peter Ladhams, who wants greater opportunity in the ruck, and could solve their long-running issues at the position. Daniel Talia joins as a delisted free agent on the cheap and successfully replaces the retired Lachie Henderson.

Doomsday trade scenario: The Dockers hold firm on their low-ball offer for Clark, and with the defender-wingman unwilling to stay, the Cats relent and accept pick 27. They’re unable to work out a deal with the Magpies and Kreuger walks for free via the pre-season draft, while they can’t add any more picks to their arsenal, keeping them out of the Ladhams race.

I think finding a suitor for Constable is a rosy outcome but getting a 30s/40s for him is a scenario I'd need to be heavily medicated to believe.

Probably a first rounder in all honesty, if Preuss can go for pick 31 you're not getting a contracted 23 year old overly cheaply.

Didn’t Port tell him to explore his options though? Surely that at least dings his trade value, apparently they really rate the younger ruck waiting in the the wings.

What would people consider to be Ladham's worth? At 23, he could be ready to flourish if given the responsibility of being the number one ruck..

He's under contract, so that means we'd have to pay 'overs'. But how do we define overs, a first round pick which we don't have. We do have a future first, but I'd be reluctant to depart with that, as I suspect the club would be too.

If we can somehow trade-up and get back into the mid to late first round, I think we'd have to consider trading for Ladhams. I feel in the past we haven't been able to identify rucks at other clubs that have a big ceiling with future development. Some have gone on to really flourish and develop into very good players at other clubs, and I feel like we have missed out due to them not being fully established and consistent performers at their previous clubs.

I think we need to role the dice and gamble. Ladhams is a talent and has shown enough that the risk is worth taking IMO. We just need to backend the contract with all of our pending retirements in the next couple of years..

I think his actual worth is a mid second round pick but a bit like us with clark they will be demanding a R1 because hes contracted.

DFA to someone else or delist and re rookie to us i reckon.

Can some club pick up chook please! We are p weak to delist a player that’s incapable of playing well at AFL level. No tank, no spread, no need!

Have Geelong actually said they want him to stay? Whats the point of keeping him if we have no intention of playing him, just delist him

Constable is 1 I find funny at this time of year

This is the third year it's been reported he's looking at his options, with both the club & player seemingly more vocal about that last year and this year

You then get the random articles at this time of year with, "10 players who'd benefit by changing clubs" and Constable is again on that list this year - but there seems to be some disconnect between whoever writes those articles & what's actually happening, because it's not like Constable hasn't tried to find a new home, but he doesn't seem to have any takers

So all good to say he could benefit from a change of club, but wouldn't that actually require another club to be interested

Have Geelong actually said they want him to stay?
I haven't seen anything from the club saying they want him to stay. The only thing I've read is from SEN but actual quote from the club:

Out-of-contract Geelong midfielder Charlie Constable is certain to depart the club at the end of 2021 if a rival suitor emerges, according to SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund.

“Charlie Constable is the really interesting one and not for the first time,” he said on SEN Flip with Kane Cornes.

“But the difference this time is he’s out of contract, the Cats want him to stay and they’ve told him they want to re-sign him and that Joel Selwood is winding down and there’s a seat for him in the future.

“He’s had to be oh so patient with 12 games in four seasons, he’s tearing up the VFL. He tried to orchestrate a trade last year with a year to run on his contract but no suitable offers emerged so he stayed.

“If an offer does come from a rival club, he’s out of there. He will take it and he’s there to be taken from a rival club’s point of view.

“Charlie Constable is a watch this space as the season unfolds.”

It's the same thing as Narkle's manager earlier in the year, they're never going to say "yeah actually we don't have anything on the table, hopefully Geelong offer something because we'll probably sign it"

Remember the intent of media articles is get clicks. He's a recognisable enough name with high vfl stats that casual fans will click for and get emotional about

When is figjam Clark peeing off? What will we get for him? As for Krueger I don’t mind his skill set as a defender, but he wants to play forward…, so.. let’s get it done.
Trade period hasn't actually started - FA deals for the moment

As for the 2 players named, who knows as maybe they'll stay

Some back room unrest at the cattery obviously but they hush it up well . 3 assistants walking. Wells sooked it up and had a break mid year . Troy Selwood list man left. Cook gone as is the Prez. Shocking in. Something wrong down there..

Collingwood are ripe to low ball us on Kruger. They will take him through pre season draft or a future 4th round pick.

always disappointing when Wells plucks a “hidden gem”, we develop and they leave when there is a genuine opportunity for them to replace a retiring champion.

to make the best of the situation, a straight swap for Sier might be an opportunity. He would be a half forward / rotating midfielder in the right age bracket.

A pick around 18-23 is about right, very similar to what we gave up for Stanley a pick in the low 20s.

If he was uncontracted i wouldnt give up that much..considering contract youre probably right.

Just watched the James Kelly interview on cats website. Apparently very much inline with Lappin for football philosophy. Obviously nothing new coming in!
What is Kelly’s nickname? Forgot it!

They can either threaten us with psd for Kreuger or they can threaten the Pies with it over lipinski. I don't think we'll make a big deal of it and I think they'll give us a F3rd on the basis that it puts pressure on the Dogs to give a cheaper deal for the more highly valued lipinski.

Not necessarily

They're also heavily into Lipinski, so if they're hitting a brick wall when dealing with Bulldogs, they'll likely want to get a deal done with us as it's not often a team would be able to get 2 wanted players via the PSD
