I'm not sure his ceiling is high at AFL level.

I'm with you. Appears to be a bit of a seagull from what I've seen, which is fine if your delivery is superb, but he's been hit and miss with his kicking IMO.

Wouldn't hate it if we picked him and would back the club to get the most out of him, but personally believe there is better prospects available.

Anyone interested in what Mattaes Phillipou has to offer the cats if we select him should watch this

Has a lot of points of difference, size speed/acceleration good above his head, decent length on the kick, left footer, solid goal sense.

Didn't see a single kick on his non-preferred foot, not many precision short kicks in his highlights clips, large parts of football is just doing the percentage plays without errors.

Edit: December birth and with a wrestler billing of 190 cm

I know it seems over the top but there is a little bit of Gas Snr early midfield days in the way he power runs with the ball. You can see he loved "God" growing up. His dad must have had great taste hahaha.

Pure_Ownage what do you estimate our pick 58 coming down to?

Brisbanes picks will disappear bid matching adel will lose 46 and 56 on michelanney and ess will lose later picks on davey. Then some clubs will pass at the back end. So 58 ends up 45-50 id say.

I guess the club is taking a punt that they'll be overlooked by the other 17 clubs.

I do know both have their heart set on Geelong.

Osca will def get through the main draft imo.

Clohesy is more of a chance to go main draft but with less than 60 picks likely i think he gets through too.

Jaxon Binns, hello. Need some outside hard runners that can bang some goals. We saw what happened once we brought Isaac Smith into our team, just changed the dynamics. Been saying this for the last decade, we were short of one pacey outside mid for the entire period of 2012 to 2020. We would've had a flag then had we had one more.

I like binns but 58 needs to be a tall (assuming 7 isnt a tall which it probably wont be).

Let Hawthorn give Stephens 2 years of experience and we can get him back for a low pick when we need him after retirements. I think he will become a good player at the coal face.
What with this assumption that all good players that we like (Geelong boys) we will miss out on will come back to Geelong after 2 years. Pure fantasy most players stay put at least till after their second contract ends. But most historically have stayed out for their career…..

Can't wait for the draft to be over with.

Speculation is fun but it gets to a point where it just feels like we are going round and round in circles saying the same stuff while waiting.

I'm not complaining though... Just more eager to unwrap & reveal our new highly-rated present.

A flag, pick #7, Henry, Bruhn & Bowes to look forward to next year, with minimal pressure aswell.

Just bring on 2023.

hang on: it was an under age game. When he makes that long midfield run, there is no-one within cooee. That might be doable once or twice a game on the wing at the elite level, but it won't happen through the centre of the ground until it's the last five minutes and there's a big score difference. Slow-mo and motivational music are nice touches, but on the basis of his footy I feel the Ablett allusion is a stretch that isn't good for the kid.

Rather than a second coming, I saw a big tall kid dominating because he was big and tall ... reasonable speed but not elite, with a certain grace which is unusual (perhaps that's what you were referring to?). What stood out was the very long kick, which it does for a couple of the others at the top of the tree in this draft (like Ashcroft). And is an always welcome trait - it's something that Smith added to our side that isn't talked about much. That allows special things to be done at this level, because players are clustered closer for receiving shorter kicks, but again, while a 55-metre kick at AFL level is very handy, it's not jaw-dropping.

Jury is out on Stephens and Bruhn, struggle to take an opinion seriously if someone thinks Clark is a better player than Walsh though, Walsh has him covered in pretty much every aspect of the game, is a more versatile player and walked straight into senior footy at an elite level.
I said will be better, not Is better. 🤷

Couple of things.

Cal mentioned today on SEN that the cats also really like Cam McKenzie with our first pick.

Highlights always look good. There is a game on Fox where Phillipou cops a hiding and does absolutely stuff all. Jordan Murdoch has a great set of highlights as well. Not down on Phillipou but we all fall into the trap of watching a clip and assuming that is done consistently

How anybody could compare Cooper Stephens and Bruhn is beyond me. Apart from all the categories where Bruhn is ahead the major thing is Bruhn has positional flexibility. If he doesn’t make it he can always find another position (Fwd Flank). If Stephens fails as an inside mid he’s done. Stephens has just never played and like a lot of injured players people just hope that it’s masked a hidden gem. Fools gold. For every Selwood there’s a Cockatoo, Lang, Mitch Brown, Cooper Stephens even Travy Varcoe to a slight change extent ( he was a very solid player). Wells loves an underage injury. We were all over Georgiades and Stringer as well

Cam Mckenzie, remind me quite a bit of Cam Guthrie

Prismall's mum was a diehard cats fan, and I'm not sure the boys were because their Dad was a Kanga's supporter. But he had a little brother that was an absolute gun CHF as a junior and probably had better upside than Brent, but for some reason or rather he never made it. Might have given the game away by 18 or so.

wasn't there an incident of some sort...long time ago so might be remembing it wrong

Much the same. I mentioned Binns way back.. as they type we would like but things changed a bit with the trade outs and trade ins.

I guess one might try to argue he is better than the talls available at 50... but it would put a big strain on us being compelled to draft/recruit tall going forward ... and it would mean the last two years have basically been all about mids. bar Conway.

I doubt anyone could say Phil is lacking attractive attributes.

Im sure most of the top player can have 2m vid to show their best attributes. It whether those highlights can be reproduced against better opposition... and then there is the component of drafting that is not in the vid. Just what type person are you drafting. What is their resiliance like. How do they cope with not being the best in the side. What do you bring to the club in the way of harmony. What is his training standard like. Leadership potential etc etc.

I know nothing on Phil ..I have read a couple or remarks. He reeks confidence which is good. How quick could he play in the Geelong side? How would he cope being the VFL for two years? Would he be happy to work his way into our side ..like an Enright/Mackie of years past where it was year two that they broke in..?

I think Mckensie is one that could break in an play early. StKilda must be spewy.

I’d just take Tsatas.

I like tsatis but he like a few players that I think they might have been late R1 in another draft. Players that can find the ball at the lower level..usually can do the same at the higher level. What I wonder is how he cope with others also being able to do the same around him. There must be some sort of ?? over him if they are talking about home slipping.

Has shown nothing to indicate an upward trend going forward IMO.
Bruhn is far better. Why? Cause he is now at Geelong and CS and Haw player. o_OLOL. ( he probably plays well Easter Monday against us)

Copper Stephens is gone... he either will or wont at haw. I liked him and wished we had found a way to ply him instead of the wasted games on Higgins...but its done. How he goes at Haw will be noteworthy but irrelevant to me cause with list management you win some you lose some ... players come players go.

I watched the GF again yesterday... and tried to see where we have could fit in. To me I could see Clark doing all that Joel did. Maybe Bruhn to but we just have not seen enough of him on ball at afl level. That will come in our system. Henry is harder to find a spot if Rohan is still motivated. His pace is still so good. Finding a spot JB will be interesting. I could see him playing a Duncan role ..a bit all over the place. Holmes comes in as well

... and I could not see where CS would have played ..or would have played going forward now.
