Surely Dangerfield will be the next captain; he was often the spokesman even when Selwood was captain. I'm not convinced Stewart is the right choice. Duncan is prone to injury, but he'd be OK. So would Blicavs. Time will reveal who among the younger cohort might be a good captain.

(PS. On respect for other posters, some time ago I was mocked for my age - yes I'm quite venerable - and lectured for my grammar and usage by one who shall remain nameless, but he/she is a regular. No-one noticed or cared, least of all the Moderator. And to be fair to the Moderator I think it's too much to expect he/she to be correcting every lapse in tone that occurs here.

But it's certainly the case that a few here seem not to understand the difference between expressing a view and mocking the poster.)

Backing in the clubs culture on this one. We just stole a guy who really didn’t want to leave Gold Coast and a Queenslander at that. When Jack Bowes signed the heavily back ended contract at Gold Coast, it was during a time where they were in dire straits and signing anyone willing to stay on big coin just on potential.

How often does Geelong give out four year contracts in general yet alone to someone of the calibre of Bowes? Not often at all. I’ve seen people say that Cooper Stephens was going to be a superstar and another say Jansen would play 200 games. I really don’t think it’s as massive as we think when he’s in the right age bracket and clearly a leader.

I’m not sure if Dangerfield or Stewart is going to be our next captain but by the time Stewart is Joel Selwood’s age Jack Bowes will be Tom Stewart’s age. I’m going early but I said it before anyone else. Let’s re-evaluate in 4 years time!

Oh come on. Geelong had no option but give 4 years.

Firstly, he met with 4 other clubs. What were they offering?
Secondly how the hell would we have fit in his $1.6mil with a shorter contract?

We give out 4-year contracts to guys playing VFL for bad sides about as often as we swap future third-rounders for top 10 picks.

Once.

Bowes getting 4 years doesn't mean we love him... He just had to get 4 years for us to be an option for him.

True. I see Smith, Tuohy and Stanley all being likely retirements. There will be further player movement too so I don't think a lack of list spots should be an issue after next season. But they all have to show something at some time.
No totally disagree - and that applies for most of our veterans - they are very athletic - quite a few GF sprint winners amongst them - and all going great guns at the present time

All you keep reading is - oh Rohan ( who is still the quickest player on the list ) he will be finished soon - and all the rest of them - which i think is nonsense - none of them have lost a yard of pace yet - they are all still playing terrific football - im not in a hurry to retire off any Geel veterans - because most of them are very talented players and super important to Geel

If Geel have a bit of luck ( which all clubs needs)- and play their cards right - and with no world beater teams in the comp at the present time - then it wouldnt be a total surprise if the Cats won the next 2 flags - but that isnt going to transpire - if talented veterans playing good football are retired off which some posters love keep mentioning that they will be

Until any of them actually look like they are just about to hit the wall - then that discussion should be Out of Bounds

Yea I ain’t the guy for that haha, the Tiggies on BF and I get on quite well. Brothers from another mother kinda stuff. We are all some type of cat at the end of the day, we should be going for the 5 bird clubs I say

kiss hug tigs2010
Noted.
Like me- I have a warm spot in my heart for Collingwood- not supporters necessarily, but can empathise with them a bit over history.

HUNGER is a big factor though- winning that elusive flag- do they all want to work as hard as they did this year?
The Selwood factor was huge this year.
All those who had not won a flag are now premiership players- even our very best 07-09 teams could not win BTB,
Hawkins lack of preseason and lack of early season availability- Let's wait and see.
Don't need to remind you how passionate you (not alone) were about the Demons up to rd 10 this year. It changes quickly.

I reckon after the Combine results, I can see Jhye Clark being available at our selection.

Actually, I'm going to make a big call here. I'm not in the Jhye Clark camp. I won't be unhappy if we select him, but I prefer others.

Jyhe Clarke has pretty average highlights but if you watch a full game he can just play the game.

Also his two biggest strengths are he is as hard as a cats head and makes good decisions generally. He just understand the game and picks good options. Whilst not flashy those are almost the two absolute main attributes that make up a modern footballer. His combine results also weren’t that bad. He was like just outside the elite runners for both speed and distance. A tenth of a second slower speed is well and truely made up by “feel for the game”. If it was half a second and a minute over 2km then different I’d get the concern. Like 6.27mins is moving! Tsatas gets all the athletic ticks and his 2km was 7mins. Holmes ran a 6.25 in his year.

Agree - a bit light on for "highlights" but every disposal went to a teammate so efficiency was off the charts.
You can see the Selwood comparison in terms of his hardness , vision and even the type of disposal ( more considered rather than long bombs). Don't mind him.
There's some talent on the top 10 , glad we're in the running for a change :thumbsu:

It’s inevitable there will be retirements. It happens! And those 3 are the most likely based on both their ages and contract status. To say it shouldn’t be discussed on this forum until it happens is ridiculous. What else do you want to stifle discussion on?

As for our prospects over the next couple of years - I think we will remain very competitive assuming we get a fair run with injury and motivation to succeed remains high. With our recent signings I can’t see us dropping down too much for a while.

Apparently the F&S rule isn't fair because some sons forge a better career than players taken before them in the draft...

Gee..where does clown write ...WA? Did he happen to mention Priority picks ...like the one that got Juds to WA or the one that got Riewildot to Stk..? No its whinny about Father Sons. that were drafted ... ...what 20 years ago?

Sure. They go and gives us room. I think Menegola might too and we probably look at ones who think a dry wells... so there may be more spots next year.... but someone like Demp will be putting on pressure. We draft one or two this year that looks like they add something and its amazing how the places look shaky. Would it suprise anyone if in next year we bring in a FA or a DFA. Then we add another R1 pick etc.

There would be a group of players with better highlights. My bet Rohan had a group of the best high lights you ever saw ... and for years he was question on his finals ... I wonder Joels Highlights were like? I think there is strong chance he is gone at our pick... so highlights aside ..I think there are clubs that rate him.

Really its only about if he is there imo....and if he isn't what do we do then

Trade to bulldogs for 11 and 23

I’ll build a catalogue here.
Allan looks smart with the ball.

I’ve heard about his pace but he doesn’t seem to use it.

So far, I think we are selling 7.

Wells and Mack have been pretty open about how they're taking it to the draft. Would take a pretty good offer to get us to trade it, you just know Wells is licking his lips finally having a shot at the elite end of the draft again.
