Could be as simple as, in return for JB+7, a FR2 from the Bombers is better than an FR2 from Geelong.

If GC can get JB to agree to go to the Bombers (or Norf etc.), they'd do the deal with them instead of us.
Not disagreeing, simply saying that if it's being reported that Geelong/Danger etc have been in on Bowes for some time, then why would GC have thrown in a pick before we've even made our offer?

Sounds like we would have taken him for a lot less, that's all.

Henry will get done it will be either p18 or future 1st with minor pick swaps between the parties.
Bruhn im not as confident on given how the cameron trade went last time but i do think it gets done (wont be til next week) for a r1 imo.
Im less confident on bowes because other clubs can offer him more gametime.

Mackie seems adamant sav is staying but we know he met port last week so he obviously has some interest in a trade. Port have now got bigger priorities with jhf so that door has closed. If another club comes chasing sav with a longer contract (hes only got 1 yr to go) and more gametime i still think he would request a trade and we would grant it but only later on once our primary deals are done.

So what are the pure numbers -( assuming Sav stays ) so 5 of got cut - so 5 new players through trading or drafting come to Geel ?

I'd imagine when we found out what he was still owed, we cooled on him significantly.

Since GC wants him gone (or more accurately, his remaining salary gone), it made sense for them to come back to us with a sweetened deal.

Once word of the sweetener was made public, other clubs have come sniffing around, as they should be.

But ultimately this deal was clearly being discussed for weeks/months and they haven't just coughed up a pick out of nowhere.

It speaks to how we operate as a club that when people from Geelong have been asked about the suns deal they have spoken about the person involved rather than the pick. It doesn’t mean we haven’t been interested in the pick or that it was an after thought.
But the pick is a commodity the player is a person and they should be treated and spoken about differently exactly as the club is.

They're pushing him out, so I'd imagine they'd be very, very silent on this, IMO. Up to Bowes
Agree that it's up to him to choose, but it doesn't stop them from politely suggesting he look at the other options available to him. Of course, almost all of those other options present GC with greater compensation (if relatively minor).

Gametime isn't everything. If a player wants game time where they are going to get flogged each week, which will happen with the Hawks and Dons, then good on them. They immediately just prove they're a player the Cats don't need.

We have delisted a ruck

McKay signs mega deal

Just how much is Dekong woth contracted compared to uncontracted?

It would take a lot to convince Carlton id have thought but P7 and P20?
Would just about guarantee pick 7 alone would be enough. TDK is much loved but on output not worth a large price tag for Carlton. Huge athletic talent but I think Carltons cap would be better served elsewhere with a Soldo or Meek level ruck in his place who may be more limited but supply enough to our midfield that it doesn't matter.

Looking at some vision of Bowes, the guy can play. Good mover, nice by foot. At worst he would be valuable midfield depth. We will be continuing to manage our older midfield players including Dangerfield and Duncan. He’d even be a reasonable inclusion for Tuohy too. Reckon he’d get more games than we may initially think. It’s unlikely we also get the charmed run with injuries we did this year too.
Tbh based on his highlight package I'm more excited about what he could do than either of Henry or Bruhn

If he does choose us then we really need to get the Henry and Bruhn trades done first so that Pies or GWS don't try and force us to split the pick 7 etc so that they get an earlier 1st round pick
Why? We dont have to take either of them if it doesn't suit us, they have requested to come to us not the other way around.

Paddy Dow looking for a trade. We might have been interested in the past in the belief we could get more out of him, but we have too many balls in the air, too few spots and too many mids.
I would think Carlton wouldn't ask too much for him and it would help their cap as he has a year to go. I watched a couple of Carlton VFL finals games and he got a lot of the ball without seeming to impose himself on the game.

I love your analyses of this period every year.
What do you see will happen re-
1. Ollie Henry? What will we do to get him?
2. Sav- will stay?
3. The other 2 that get linked to us?
Yep, he is arguably the very best

Because we have a good reputation that when a player nominates us we commit that we will get the deal done, would rather maintain that reputation because it's part of being a successful destination club.

Just for the sake of it I have moved forward to 2024 when we are going for a 3 peat! This is the squad we will have assuming trades as currently rumoured.

Close, Parf, Guthrie, Zuthrie, Miers, Henry, O Henry, Kolo, Bews, Cameron, MOC, Holmes, Conway, Knevitte, Dempsey, SDK, Neale, Stewart, Atkins, Stengle, Bruin, Bowes, Stephens Pick 7 (J Clarke) with 4 senior players in possibly their last year (Blitz, Stanley, Danger, Duncan) and 4-6 new draftees and whoever else we trade for in 2023…

This doesn't include some other “likely” players like Willis, Whyte and possibly even 2E and Smith going one more time!

I know a lot of assumptions on how the older crew hold up and the younger crew come on but still looks like there is a very good best 23 in that group of players…with the liklihood that some current best 22 get squeezed out.

3 Peat is on!!

Edit

I left out Hawke and Menagola in their last years too. Even better swan song

Just had a glance at the Essendon trading page.

Apparently they’re into Bowes and any extra (pick7) will just be a bonus whereas we just want pick 7 and bowes will be a hinderance…

In addition to that, their upper hand is that if he talks to 2MP and saad they’ll tell him how Essendon can make you a better player post GC whereas if he talks to Zac Smith he’ll tell them that Geelong will not make him any better.

No brainer for him based on all that.

So that neither Pies or Gws get a sniff of pick 7. Does anyone else think Bowes might have been told to wait until after we complete the deals for Bruhn and Henry to nominate us?

No craig cameron said the hold up is bowes has meetings with clubs today and they expect his decision wednesday morning.

If you narrate this post in your head in the voice of Ralph Wiggum it is extremely funny..
