I hate it when Geelong becomes desperate and gives away future picks for a short term obsession. We've already given away next year's second and 4th round picks, now we're trying to give away next year's 1st round pick. We swapped No.38, 48 and 55, as well as future second - and fourth-round selections, to Brisbane in exchange for the sole pick No.25. Now considering giving 25 and next year's first round (18 at worst) for Ollie Henry. What a joke. Basically blowing an entire year of draft picks for a player who will be a top up player and may or may not ever get a game. Why have we become so desperate. Ollie Henry is nice to have if you can get him cheaply. otherwise forget about it.

Maybe wait until AFTER the trade period, before you melt all over the place, lol. No matter what happens, if we end up with Bruhn, Bowes, Henry and Pick 7, the rest of it doesn't matter.

Yes. But Henry would have to be ok to go down that path.

I know he wants to come here, but it’s risky just leaving it to the draft and potentially ending up at a 3rd club. It’s unlikely another team takes him, but he’d have to be ok taking that chance.

I’d say far more likely Collingwood just accept 25, maybe with a sweetener.
Got no sweetness left gave them all to Brisbane. Cant believe they do that deal unless they know spies except 25. No other reason in getting 25?

Scenes from Bridge Road when that happens
crowd riot GIF
The people from Bridge Rd are already calling for the AFL to investigate our Salary Cap rorting

we can use our pick 25 or next years future first for Henry
There must be something else as what eve is left is too much for Bowes?

At this stage we can’t use our future first in any deals unless we trade in another future first or future second, OR the AFL sign off on teams being able to trade out future first AND later future picks

What complete and utter rubbish.
Where the hell does P25 and a F1st come from?

You’ve lost the plot.
We can’t trade F1

Come someone give me a summary of the afternoons action that resulted in 20 pages of posts?
Pick 18 for Bruhn.
Cats trade all of our 2022 picks baring pick 58, and our future 2 and 4th to Brisbane for 25, which will be submitted for Henry.
Bowes and pick 7 for Cats fr3 pick is what has been stated.

Some suggesting we would swap our Fr1 with GCS instead and get back GCS fr2 and pick 5 instead of 7 ( although this is unlikely to me as the deal has been submitted and GCS don’t have pick 5 yet, and I don’t think Mackie would have gone to all that trouble (trading with Bris) not to keep fr1.

I think in general the club look at trade week a lot differently to the fans of the club.

In fact I think our club looks at trade week a bit differently to a lot of the other clubs, too.

Supporters are very much into 'winning' trade week and not losing face, + plenty of posturing into the mix too.

The club however seems to target the players they want and then do what it takes to get the deal done - sometimes they might pay ''overs'', but half the time these draft selections turn out to be absolutely worthless in retrospect - I remember gnashing my teeth over some young KD a few years ago that we missed out on (went to St Kilda iirc) - not sure the bloke ever played a game of senior footy in the end though (maybe Hugh something? Goddard?)

If the Oh Henry deal gets over the line, then we've added 3 young players with a decent amount of senior AFL experience under their belts already.
Perhaps it doesn't end up working out with all three of Bowes, Bruhn and Henry - but it's likely at least one will be a decent contributor.

Throw whoever we get at #7 into the mix and it's one of the best trade periods I can recall the club engaging in.

If it all blows up in our face, we have the recruiting nous and network to mine the Rookie draft as a back-up plan.

Personally I'd be a bit sad to see Ratugolea go but I can live with it (survived Greg Williams/Bernard Toohey/David Bolton leaving, survived Leigh Colbert and Gary Ablett jr leaving; Esava it was fun and good luck).

I've been as guilty of gnashing my teeth in frustration and whining about 'selling the farm' as anyone here; post-2022 flag however I am very comfortable with the whole thing.

Getting a Tom Hawkins replacement in a year or two will be the big one though; he is basically irreplaceable but we are very lucky to support a clever and resourceful club though; they'll come up with something.

all part of the Stanley trade

He's also managed to have more faith in a 17 year old yet to even be drafted over a 20 year old former first round pick who's proven his worth at AFL level. Incredible really.

Funny how 24 hours after the whole footy world claimed we were hard to deal with at the trade table, we complete a trade to get Bruhn to the club, trade picks with Brisbane and get to work negotiating a deal with the Suns to get the Bowes and pick 7 business done.

If that's what we're like when we're hard to deal with, imagine how much we could get accomplished if we were easy to work with.

I will see what the total ins and the totals outs will be ...but as it stand I think next year is going to be a lot thinner than we would have hoped I dont mind looking like losing a trade as long as the end results stands up.

Incredible melt considering we won a flag by 81pts less than 2 weeks ago using a team with more than a few of these "obsessions"
