I don't think Hawkins will truly get the league recognition he deserves until he retires. But if he keeps playing the way he is, and he plays til 37 or 38, because honestly I can't see the drop off happening its all up to if he wants to keep going, he will set games records and probably get another flag in the next 3 years and he will be in the AFL HOF as a legend with Joel in 15 years time.
His game relies on his strength and goal smarts. Strength sticks around longer in big guys, whereas pace usually tapers off sooner (in others that rely on that trait). I think he will play one more year and if we go back to back he will hang them up.
Tbh, I think he will only go one more year regardless.

I remember Bomber talking about Hawkins in a press conference saying he may never live up to the lofty heights we were expecting him to.

I think once rucking for him was ditched - except inside 50, and other than getting rubbed out for that prelim he has lived up to expectations.

I just think he will be the one making the call and if he can continue to perform he has a few years left in him. He loves the club too much to leave it before his time.

It will be copied but it is based on gut running as much as tactics. You can't just tweak your game for that. You need to already have the right gut runners in your team. You need to have confidence that you can keep rotating players, put players through mini-pre-seasons, keep players fresh without sacrificing wins.

I migt be wrong but it's going to be hard to immediately copy.
True. Five on the bench might make it easier to copy.

I think they're saying rich get richer. Rich people don't need more money. Neither do we need players outside the b22.

The concept has flaws for sure...but Id also say the theme is probably fair. If we say the term rich represents those who have in comparison to those who do not... as we are not really talk financial wealth but success..so in that terms we are lucky to support a rich club. You point , correctly we have not suddenly become primed for more success .. its more like have gained 3 picks in the top 10 of a draft after winning a flag... it gives one the impression of more wealth to come. It probably like some rich mongrel getting the inside running on a new IPO before the average guy. It looks like the rich getting rich although it more about the possibility of future success and future wealth...

although putting aside the emotive terminology, looking at the parts of the deal it's hard to see geelong becoming the dominant overload of the comp based on the individuals we brought ion. Just how good will Bruhnn and Henry and P7 be? That is dry facts, and that rarely sells papers or induces clicks, it easier to just cast aspersions and say rich get richer. All they needed to make the story even better was for the Henry to be coming from North instead of Collingwood ..and then we may have been looked upon as worse than Rich , perhaps moguls making their stack thru the exploitation of the underclass.

Interesting that Knightmare has Phillipou ranked #2

I wonder where he see Lukosoius now from that 2018 draft who he had some exuberant praise for He can make a few wild assertions.... Voss at 15 ? Has anyone else mentioned him in their top 30. Ethan Phillips at 20? We probably will not know till the last 48 hrs... Twomeys final one seems to be a reasonable predictor.

Chris rankings are always very different to the consensus rankings l give him that.
Theres a few calls i agree with there though phillipou and gibney in particular.
I rate jones but he wont go that high on draft night (due to size).

IF he is that good . IF... then Adelaide should be all over us if he is there to be drafted at 7/8. Their Pick 23 and their FR1 for him.
hehe yeah depends if we want a pick 6 or 7 next year or this year.
P23 is a little too far back this year for me... i think the cliff drop happens after 13-14.
Are these rankings or a phantom draft?

GWS have the No 1 spot and by all accounts they want Cadman.
Just his rankings.

Different does not always do him credit. He goes crazy ivan a bit too often because he like to show he is different. To have Phillips in top 20 but no Businlger ? Voss ...maybe he gets drafted late ..but clubs have seen a lot of him... to pick him before Hotton ? Is he still as relevant as he was? He went off the rails a bit with his financial advice on youtube which saw him moved from BF

I don't think we will ever see a better FF in that hulking nature like TomaHawk. His size is of genetic freak levels. He rag dolls most of them, but his skill levels are top notch. If he was playing in 1980s, he would've kicked 1500 goals, lol. Well maybe not that much, but 1200 goals is maybe not out of the question tbh.
He would had been perfect for the wrestling forwards of that era, but sadly I can see the defenders coward punching him to an early retirement

Id take the Crows offer as Id rather take the chance on earlier pick next year...perhaps a year with taller talent at the pointy end. To me. ..a cliff almost loosens Wells as his best pick often happens after the cliff.

Hes always ridiculously overrated mature aged players, just because a couple have instantly impacted he all of a sudden thinks they must all be top 25 picks.

I won't be surprised at all if we have 1 or 2 teams lined up to live trade our 1st pick.

Do we pull the trigger?

Well, that's just going to depend on who is available on draft night, and how good the offers to swap for it are.

It will be super intriguing for us come draft night if Clark isn't available when it gets to our selection.

I'd expect the phone to be ringing.

Sydney sound very keen to get up the order... Although it might be to get Humprey who is likely to be gone by our selection.

Would Sydney swap 14/17 and an F2 for #8?... Maybe if their target/s are still available.

But then if we take that deal (might not even be a deal that good either) are we just passing up on a premo talent to get a couple of speculative picks in the late teens + something in the 30's next year?

Personally, I'm quality over quantity (if the quality is available) but we just gotta trust Wells on this one either way.

It might but let’s not assume we will play the same way in 2023.
Scott will push for improvement which is going to be exciting as I’m sure he wants to keep ahead of the curve.
Our approach to clearances will be interesting in 2023 - we scored 50% of our total in the GF from clearance- that was not typical for us and would have shocked the Swans.
I wonder if Scott will build on that in 2023 as an addition to our dominant turnover game?
We have a very promising young tap ruck and are building a huge squad of midfielders so that could be the next phase of our evolvement👍

In saying that... What if he did the same about Stengle?
Hindsight is great i know.
If Tyson Stengle would've been a Knightmare Top 10-15 pick and considering his instant impact and AA status.
He would have been spot on.

Go through the top 40 of the last 5 drafts and let me know how many KM actually got right, for someone who acts like they know everything he gets a hell of alot wrong, always felt there's far better draft analysis out there tbh.

Not disagreeing with u there... he's a bit like recruiters, as they have a 50-50 strike rate i suppose. Some even worse lol.
