So much talk about sliding back, splitting the pick or moving into next year…

Cmon this is the best pick we’ve had in 16 years. I’d be shocked if we chose not to select the 8th best player in the draft with our pick (Clark or no Clark).

Simple - use pick 7.
All the talk from the club is they are rapt to finally have a high pick and have every intention to use it, not really sure why we need pages and pages of trade speculation, personally would be astounded if we traded it, only scenario you should be doing it is if you bagged a probable top pick next year and no club is going to trade out of that draft.

Wouldn't mind if we could some how turn it into TDK next year.

Different does not always do him credit. He goes crazy ivan a bit too often because he like to show he is different. To have Phillips in top 20 but no Businlger ? Voss ...maybe he gets drafted late ..but clubs have seen a lot of him... to pick him before Hotton ? Is he still as relevant as he was? He went off the rails a bit with his financial advice on youtube which saw him moved from BF

Buss is in there.
I agree top 20 is too high for voss and phillips (very few mature agers go top 20) but i wouldnt be surprised if phillips in particular went in third round of what will be a shallow ND (ive been suggesting that for a few months).

I agree on the financial advice stuff though although thats a tangent. I disagree with chris views on stuff like that but i respect how many hours of dedication he puts into watching junior footy he gave a lot to this place in that way

If crows rated Phillipou that high, they would have kept pick 5 and traded out a future 1st for Rankine.

Not necessarily. Gcwill be matching a r1 bid for walter next year so no way they would have accepted a future 1st for rankine and have it eaten by a bid. They would have been clear with the crows on that

Some clubs might (those that will play finals next year).in particular a club like melb that has 2 future 1sts and has been vocal about wanting to get into the top 10 next year. So they are a club we could do a pick slide with and likely get a future 1st.
No one who thinks they will be bottom 6 next year is trading a future 1st i agree as both the reid kids (archer ive seen play live and im a huge wrap on) in particular will be very good top 10 picks.

So the trade scenario is not out of the realms.

I won't be surprised at all if we have 1 or 2 teams lined up to live trade our 1st pick.

Do we pull the trigger?

Well, that's just going to depend on who is available on draft night, and how good the offers to swap for it are.

It will be super intriguing for us come draft night if Clark isn't available when it gets to our selection.

I'd expect the phone to be ringing.

Sydney sound very keen to get up the order... Although it might be to get Humprey who is likely to be gone by our selection.

Would Sydney swap 14/17 and an F2 for #8?... Maybe if their target/s are still available.

But then if we take that deal (might not even be a deal that good either) are we just passing up on a premo talent to get a couple of speculative picks in the late teens + something in the 30's next year?

Personally, I'm quality over quantity (if the quality is available) but we just gotta trust Wells on this one either way.

No you wouldnt do 8 for a teens and an F2 id have to be a 10-20 pick and an f1 ie 14/17 and f1 from sydney or 13 and f1 from melb.
I agree on humphrey hes the sort of player that if he gets to our pick clubs might be on the phone offering us a lot for our pick.

Adelaide and Philippou are the most obvious. 23 could used on the best KPD available and assuming Crows don’t make finals we will have top 10 in a good draft which may equal pick 8 this year. Best case scenario Tex probably doesn’t win them games and they fall away to around pick 4-6

There would have to be an offer ready to go one would think. What do they have a few minutes after the Haw pick to pick or trade. It could almost be like Costner and his pancakes... on the phone as Haw take the pick.

Essentially this..take offers for p7 (8) the day before the draft and decide on our preferred offer (ie is it melb syd gws etc and for what picks). If haw then take clark as soon as they do use the 5mins to get on the phone and do the pick swap. That would be the way to do it if it happened.

Let's say Adelaide..but it could be swans, GWS etc.. put an offer to Geelong and they have a frozen agreement of sorts that they quickly thaw and enact if A, B and C happen.

If I remember the story... Geelong did have some sort of pre-agreement when they traded to get Holmes

Anyone else hoping we draft Busslinger just so that one day we can use the phrase 'park the Buss' to refer to keeping one standout defender (rather than the whole team) behind the ball?

I remember Bomber talking about Hawkins in a press conference saying he may never live up to the lofty heights we were expecting him to.

I think once rucking for him was ditched - except inside 50, and other than getting rubbed out for that prelim he has lived up to expectations.

I just think he will be the one making the call and if he can continue to perform he has a few years left in him. He loves the club too much to leave it before his time.
I used to get so furious when they experimented with him in the ruck... Now I quite enjoy his ruck contests inside F50 ;)

Clark, Phillipou, Humphrey, Busslinger. Some will be available at that pick, and I'm pretty confident they will all play +100 games at a decent level barring no serious injuries.

If he has a breakout year. Yes.
If he's same same. Pass.
Still wondering if he is a Ruckman, a CHF, a FF or a CHB.
Jack of all trades a master of none perhaps ??
I'm in the same boat regarding TDK. I'm not sure he's worth a 1st.

Phillipou will be a bust imo.

Good post Daz, don't forget TDK!
dazbroncos normally writes good stuff to be fair. Gotta respect the fact the bloke is up at all hours of the morning out of love for Geelong. Doesn’t matter if he’s watching AFL, VFL or doing something on BF.

Admire the passion

You sense a bit of Murdoch in him?

He can mark overhead and plays inside/outside. Looks very similar to the way Bont plays imho. Might need to work on his opposite foot though.
Hit the nail on the head.
