GWS and GC both wanting the FR1 is the issue. Its really just Henry and Bruhn... if Bowes is as reported. ..just take him and his money.
Apparently GWS want or Fr1
Henry our P18 ... plus a pick of some sort ... you would think thats enough.
I’m sure they are but I can’t see how we get to keep 7 under any scenario where we get all the players. Perhaps the long shot is trading our later picks this year to someone like Brisbane to give us a 20s pick which we can package for Henry or Bruhn.

Important point being overlooked in this discussion is that the Suns have nowhere to go now with Bowes. They've burnt him and in the process, told him to go away and figure out which club he wants to go to and let them know. Very poor man management and, from what I'm told, it's the reason Dangerfield has connected with him. AFLPA are watching how things play out at a few clubs and the Suns are doing some very left field things. But overall, there's some concerns about how they're dealing with players. I wouldn't be surprised if Bowes manager has been speaking with the AFLPA to bring it to their attention - particularly as Bowes is widely known to have restructured his agreement terms to help the club - now it's the clubs turn to return the favour and a few are unhappy with how it's playing out. Then they can keep him, that's ridiculous.
Any club that sends back a 1st to GC in this situation is making a horrific decision, and that would include Geelong if they did that.
The reason 7 is on the board is because his contract is way overs for the next 2 years and they want to dump it.
How can they then demand what could be a better pick back next year, we would be essential taking their salary dump for free.
Only way it can happen is they pay half his salary.

But do they? I guess we will find out soon. I think we may need to upgrade some of these later picks for an early pick somewhere.
You wonder when it gets to the stage when teams start to say, “F the Cats, why should we do them any favours?” and avoid for example upgrading our picks for us.
Easy to form that view from the outside. Amongst recruiters and list managers though, I think there's a constant reminder that if you try and screw someone on deal X, then it will come back to bite you on deal Y when you're trying to negotiate an outcome. You wonder when it gets to the stage when teams start to say, “F the Cats, why should we do them any favours?” and avoid for example upgrading our picks for us.
Yep, and I suspect the only chance they had to retain Ollie was to pick him for the finals, even if he wasn't playing up to their required standards. That they chose not to do so, knowing it likely meant his departure, is a sign of confidence in what you are building and I respect them more for it.McRae is like Bevo. All about the spirit of the club. If he even gets the slightest whiff that you're not 100% in, then you're out.
I should have been clearer. In order to get pick 7 Gold Coast will want our 2023 R1. We may be able to avoid that but if we do we won’t get pick 7.

Dodoro is possibly the exception to this and is generally seen as wanting everything to go his way, but very difficult to deal with the other way. When you consider the state of Essendon's list, and the wasted draft picks, it's hard to see how he's still there with everything else that's gone on around him. Clearly he has photos.
Other clubs can sook and moan all they like, but ultimately they respect how Geelong go about it.
Yes. If Bowes chooses us, what bargaining power do GC have? They can't make him go to another club and they can't keep him. So Geelong can be their normal reasonable selves but they don't have to give a first round pick.Important point being overlooked in this discussion is that the Suns have nowhere to go now with Bowes. When it's all sorted in the wash up, I think the club will have been reminded that this is a problem of their own making (salary cap / player dump issues) and at the heart of all this is their reputation for how they treat their players. I think the other thing that plays out thanks to the Suns, is that the AFL will change the rules and tighten some loopholes on clubs getting priority picks one minute because they sook it up - then 5 minutes later they're giving players away and adding top 10 draft picks to sweeten the deal. Can't have it both ways and it just makes the AFL look silly.
I’m firmly of the opinion that the “something back” GC’s list manager was referring to was like a future 2nd/3rd, because:If the pick 7 and Bowes deal involves a fr1 going to Gold Coast, I would walk away.
Exactly. Dodoro is the toughest negotiator with the weakest results.Easy to form that view from the outside. 1. Priority is to get pick 7 and Bowes across. Trade for a future R2
2. 18 + 61 for Bruhn + 40
3. Trade 37 + 40 + 46 to essendon for 22 (who need points for davey) or Brisbane maybe
4. Trade 22 + 52 to pies for Henry
5. McKenna for free
End up with 7 in this draft and keep our future R1 and get all 4 targets.
Key part to this is pick 7 is the diamond in all of this and should not be split. even if it means we miss one of bruhn/Henry

4 is also optimistic.I think number 2 might be the hardest to get across the line
That my understanding. GC is dangling pick 7 to get something good back next year. But do they? I guess we will find out soon. I think we may need to upgrade some of these later picks for an early pick somewhere.
