But that’s the only reason they are dangling pick 7 - to get something good back next year. Otherwise they’d just get Bowes off their books for whatever they could get.I wouldn’t think the deal to take $1.7m off their hands will involve us giving anything more than a future second. Could even be future 3rd.
You wonder when it gets to the stage when teams start to say, “F the Cats, why should we do them any favours?” and avoid for example upgrading our picks for us.
Bowes contract + Bowes + pick 7 is not >>>>>>>>> FR1Why?
Bowes + pick 7 >>>>> FR1
That my understanding. GC is dangling pick 7 to get something good back next year.

Disagree. Salary cap is a malleable commodity. We can eat Bowes’ salary by pushing other salaries back to 2025-26.Bowes contract + Bowes + pick 7 is not >>>>>>>>> FR1
I'm so eager for Bowes and pick 7, particularly the pick 7 part but I think Bowes can play as well, he could end up a very handy addition.
North might be able to fit him in salary cap wise but it doesn't make sense to me for either party. North spending big money on a player that isn't a genuine star and Bowes cashing in but going to another poor club without the support I think he needs.
I know I'm being biased but if Bowes has a think about it choosing Geelong may end up a better financial decision. Our development of players is proven, he's going to be supported by elite experienced midfielders and backs in Danger, Guthrie, Duncan, the likes of experience and support he's never had. Look beyond the two years at 850,000 and you might turn that into another 5.
People often say, "it's a business, if you were offered X money you'd take it" but I think you can genuinely make an argument that in this circumstance Geelong is the better opportunity.
Company 1: 850,000 for 2 years, uncertain company future, no manager, no support, business outlook looks dire, likely low levels of success.
Company 2: 850,000 for 3 years?, Gauranteed support and development, known fantastic work place, current business company of the year if not past two decades, opportunities for progression.
The only one I can think of was Delulio (spelling wrong) from Richmond.I’m not sure Collingwood can really push that hard in a trade for Henry.
They’ve bought in a number of players that play a similar role to him, played hi mostly in the vfl and offered him a poor contract. How they can then demand a high draft pick I don’t see how that adds up.
We’ll see how it plays out but rarely do we not get the player who nominated us.
No but both worth late 1st draft picks, they are 20 and will continue to improve over the next few years! Will be the dumbest decision we can make.
Bruhn and Henry are not the players worth splitting a top 10 pick for. Rather pass on those players in all honesty… but in reality we should be able to accommodate without the need to split 7
Yes but future 3rd would be good.If we trade our current first for Henry (plus steak knives), our future first for Bruhn and our current second rounder to GC for Bowes plus pick 7 that works doesn’t it?
jack henry is younger then parfitt. Surely you add him too? It’s certainly a great ride we are currently on. To think we were mocked as “Dad’s Army” and our window had passed us by, yet here we are with a flag and likely to enter next season with DeKoning, Holmes, Stengle, Z.Guthrie, Parfitt, Bruhn, O.Henry which represents some of the finest young talent of any side in the comp. If we get pick 7 and convert that to Jye Clark or even Cam McKenzie then we have absolutely smashed it. And that’s not including the likes of Knevitt, Willis and Conway who look promising.
Didnt adelaide and gws do this with danger and cameron? But that’s the only reason they are dangling pick 7 - to get something good back next year. Otherwise they’d just get Bowes off their books for whatever they could get.
Not even in the conversation. No one is doing that!!!If the pick 7 and Bowes deal involves a fr1 going to Gold Coast, I would walk away.
Salary cap is a finite resource just like draft picks and list spots.Disagree. Salary cap is a malleable commodity. We can eat Bowes’ salary by pushing other salaries back to 2025-26.
Pick 7 is a spicy meatball. It’s not free.Salary cap is a finite resource just like draft picks and list spots.
You don’t give it away for free. That is how badly run clubs get into trouble and end up paying the salary of good players to play for other teams.
Not sure why we are saying Esava is in this trade picture. GWS will have no interest, saints maybe a chance for Esava. Might as well keep himAfter we dug our heels in a little we traded a contracted Jordan Clark for pick 21. Why is Bruhn worth more than this?
A round 2 pick and Esava and I can see the deal being done. We may have to get creative and upgrade the round 2 a little but we have more than enough capital to do it either this year or next.
Pick 18 for Henry.
The thing is they don't get Bowes off their books if they don't offer #7.. and they want him off their books. But that’s the only reason they are dangling pick 7 - to get something good back next year. Otherwise they’d just get Bowes off their books for whatever they could get.
How do we possibly have the cap to do this? Stengle dekonning close atkins are all due much bigger coin going foward. With Bowes it’s helpful to break it down:
What would he be worth in a straight swap on $450k per year? Maybe pick 25-30?
So what would he be worth on $850k per year? Pretty much nothing. Maybe pick 80? A token gesture at best.
So now what is the counterbalance to adding in pick 7? It has to be something fairly close to pick 7 for it to make any sense. Otherwise GC would just give him away for free.
Looking at our list we could genuinely have 6 retirements next year. The difficulty with Henry from Geelong's side of things Is he isn't really a need at present and we have 1 or two other wants ahead of him in the trade period.
There's also impending retirements next year which means we're going to have a lot of list spots free and our F1 may be involved in getting Bruhn because apparently that's what GWS are targeting unless we can offload Ratugolea and throw in a 2nd round pick. We may well use a few picks this year to trade back into 23.
It's going to be an intriguing trade period.
Not sure he has shown signs of being a dud like your Hoskin- Elliot. Surely he is a better prospect than him!Good luck with Henry, will either be a superstar or a dud... nothing inbetween.
The missing link is here. With Bowes it’s helpful to break it down:
What would he be worth in a straight swap on $450k per year? Maybe pick 25-30?
So what would he be worth on $850k per year? Pretty much nothing. Maybe pick 80? A token gesture at best.

Yeah just imagine the GF side without Dangerfield, Cameron, Rohan, Tuohy, Stanley, Smith and rather have Darcy Lang, Nakia Cockatoo, Jarrod Jansen, Linc McCarthy, Josh Walker and Billie Smedts in their place instead. How good would that be hey?Frankly, I'd rather see us keep our draft picks and forget about chasing disgruntled players from other clubs. Who would you rather, the next Joel Selwood or SDK, or a couple of these unproven cast offs from other clubs?
I don't know how, why, where or when... But if we can, we can.How do we possibly have the cap to do this? Stengle dekonning close atkins are all due much bigger coin going foward.
geelong has always priortised minimising payments over draft picks.
doesnt sound right to reverse this approach and pay bowes 850 thousand in the reserves just to get pick 7.
Hawk could play forever. Doesn't rely on speed, his kicking is good and he's still monstering defenders and rucks in contests.Of the 2, Hawkins appears that he could go longer. Tuohy having said that had a terrific finals series.
