All the players on the move want Hawthorn, Eesendon, Carlton or the Saints. Essendon is the flavour of the month. A few want to go to the Roos.

What's wrong with us? True, we haven't got much trade capital - but even so.
Cash Is king and then playing time.
They offer more I guess in both.

Haven't you heard? Football ability is a relic of the past, our new plan is building the most handsome team possible and conquering the off-field endorsement market.

Ollie Lord, Bailey Smith, Archie Perkins...Might as well get Benny Cousins out of retirement too!! He's a local boy to boot!!

Expect a partnership with Garnier and Hugo Boss to be in the works over the coming weeks.

Our 'No Dickheads' policy has adapted to the 'No rude heads' policy
Lucky for our 2011 premiership captain that policy change is happening now, and not 20 years ago.

Love the man, but he wasn't the prettiest going around.

So, what are the Giants offering for clubs to take on Nick Haynes contract?
Willing to pay a portion is a good start.
But what draft pick would entice and raise the eyebrow of AMack?
Have we the space for another 800k, $900k or even a 1 million?? Not sure...
It's only a season.
But the bigger the salary the better the draft pick given.
Pick 34 from WCE they get for Flynn? Mmm.. not enough.
Pick 15 ? Shirley NOT? deja vu ? Yes please.
Pick 55 ? GTFOH
What i will say Haynes would be an excellent insurance policy for Jack Henry.
Thoughts fellas.
I don't think we'd get a sweetheart deal on Haynes like with Bowes. They aren't desperate

Now that's a myth. Who exactly were these 6-9 best players that missed "half a season". I can find three:

  • Cam Guthrie - played 6 games
  • Jack Henry - played 11 games
  • Rhys Stanley - played 13 games

Our best 18-19 was absolutely good enough to beat Melbourne, Port, Adelaide, and the Dogs. But our best 18-19 also lost to Gold Coast, St.Kilda, Port, and worst of all Fremantle at Geelong. Pretending it was due to injuries is denying reality.
Not necessarily half the season, for for a while there we had up to 8/9 best 23 players missing. The disruption and lack of cohesion that causes both while it is happening and afterwards, shouldn't be underestimated. I think that, as much as anything, contributed to our lack of consistency.

Hawks are building a youth based team which as a project might appeal to players, and the Blues are going to be a strong finals contender the next few years. And both clubs are in an area people want to live.
Essendon, no idea why people would go there.

Even less of an idea why you would go Saints.

I've been a big Duncan fan over many years. That said, I saw some signs last season that make me worried about how quickly the cliff has approached. Out of our ageing players, I have him as one who I'd seriously doubt can deliver a solid batch of A Grade games. He's never been blessed with pace, but I'm more concerned about what role he can actually play.

He can't run through the midfield or play on a wing as the game is just too quick for him and he's easily exposed. There was a time when you could play someone like that off half back but that's now a slingshot run and carry type role, and where most clubs start their attack from.

Dangerfield and Guthrie still have enough explosiveness away from contests (Danger in shorter busts), and Blicavs is an elite runner with ridiculous aerobic capacity, but out of that older crop of players, I'm not sure what Duncan delivers? Sometimes the end comes quickly for some players, and as much as I've loved him as a player, I think I can easily see him falling outside best 22 throughout next year. Perhaps he plays a bit more footy in a sub role.

It's a young mans game as we so often hear........and there's not many spots you can hide blokes on a footy field in today's style of footy.
Duncan is by far the biggest worry. He and Issac Smith were borderline last year. He’ll get uncontested possessions but his run and aggression didn’t match his reputation last year. Doesn’t diminish what a champ he’s been. It has to be that wing role I reckon. I can’t stand him at half back.

The drop off gets greater towards the end. He and Touhy are by far the biggest concerns over Hawk, Rohan, Guth and Stanley. Danger probably can’t be a star but he’s still an above average player without any question.

Id like to see the Cats give Cam Fleeton & Rhys Mathison a lifeline.
Both local, added depth, cheap and hopefully hungry for some gametime.

Bracing for some 'barometer' feedback

I was thinking something along this line ...the next draft or two will be mid heavy. The resale on talls seems solid..and getting too many is a situation not many clubs have to be concerned with. Certainly add another developing ruck like Pike or Goad. Add a tall capable of multiple roles ...and just bank them. Have a look at Lord at Port ... he was there for the taking and we took Stevens.Would it influence your choices with the early picks? Caddy's upside has been talked about but one that has gone quiet is Archer Reid.

I'm thinking tail end at the draft, draft a few tall skinny kids with good attitudes and see if we can transform them into something.

If we're trying to contend then our early pick should be something we can use next year otherwise best available

Cats killing it in the trade period so far....

Yeah because all of these players have been oh so desirable, that are looking to move clubs.

It's a bit hard to top last year, where we had one of the best trade periods in recent memory - after winning a flag. Some people have short memories I guess.

Then again, all you seem to do is whinge and denigrate the club, so it's not exactly off-brand for you anyway is it?

Oh and maybe wait until trade and draft period is over before making these oh so brilliant judgements, hey?

Will have a solid AFL career, wherever he ends up.

Assuming we don’t trade the pick for a player prior to the draft which is looking increasingly unlikely, it will be interesting to see whether we hold the pick for Sanders, Caddy or possibly Wilson or look to trade down for someone including Stevens.

We don't want crap, list-clogging players? The best name that's been raised thus far is a broken down 30 year old Taylor Adams, and then a bunch of FA's in Ben McKay and Jade Gresham as FA's - who their own club's don't even really want - and a two time ACL defender in a position we're well stocked (medium defenders), in Doedee. Then there's Grundy who would rather a nice glass of Pinot and soft cheese, than a decent football career.

There's a reason we're linked to Bailey Smith, and other clubs are linked to Mabior Chol, James Jordon, Tyler Brockman, Paddy Dow, Nick Coffield etc. etc.

It's just a shit trade period, and the players we're interested in likely aren't available until next year. Can't get O. Henry, Bruhn, Bowes and Jhye Clark after winning a flag, every year.

Nothing at all wrong with us, just something wrong with the players available this trade period.

Connors flagged two weeks ago that the media and fans will go bonkers with boredom this trade period as he expected it to be the quietest yet.

Couldn’t see any big trades dropping, and predicted less than 50 players selected on draft night.

If anyone would know I’d say it would be him.

The thing I hated about that omission was it was due to potential "heavy rain" which ended up not happening, and pre-match when asked about it Scott replied "we are still pretty tall" or something to that effect.

Esava was poor, Blicavs wasn't much better in the ruck after having a great season in defence, they combined for a total of 24 hit outs to Grundys 47, a combined 21 disposals 6 clearances to Grundys 21 disposals and 7 clearances.
Stanley the next week was straight back into the team.
The match before the finals in Rd 23 against the Blues Stanley beat Kruezer when he was a decent ruck. Dropping him made absolutely no sense its not like Stanley was wildly out of form. He had 35 HOs, 15 disposals and a goal.

I still think the worst decision the club has made in the last 15 years was making Chapman the sub against Fremantle in the 2013 QF in Geelong.
does not compare with NOT playing Wojo in the 08 GF, but persevering with an injured Stokes.

Taylor Adams to explore his options, please Geelong stay as far away as humanly possible from this 30 year old walking soft tissue injury!!!!
