As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Talk on the main board that Ash has parked talks and there may be a stalemate on worth.

What would peeps here be happy to give up? For mine, our current Pick 10 would be about right, for a former Pick 4 who hasn't quite hit the pre-draft hype, but has huge upside with elite delivery by foot and speed, is a country boy, and can play multiple positions.

Ash was #4 and is having a really good low-key breakout year.

It is his 4th year in the system and is going at 24.4ppg with 410m gained (up from 16ppg last year so a really solid jump).

I don't think #10 alone gets the job done (would be a good get for that) and I'd jump at it if we could get him for our first or even future 1st.

Jhye Clark 13, Pure_Ownage, Turbocat - curious as to your thoughts?
Very interesting.

I'd probably do that.

Has huge potential, and is a massive need. With Ash and Mullin charging out of the backline it would give us spark that we haven't had since Wojo.

Ex teamate of Bruhn as well, so we'd continue to build the awesome continuity we've got with our young boys.

Only a small thing, but I love getting ex-cats fans back to the club as well. It's one of those 1% percent things that doesn't mean much, but it's special.

Who knows how they feel these days, but GWS were big on Parfitt a couple years back.

I still reckon we've got a real shot at winning the flag, so would 14-18 + Parfitt get it done?

We might have to pay his salary on that one, but it's possible.

Honestly, I'd do our Future 1st if that's what was requested. Either way, if he was available and wanted to come to us, he's absolutely the type that I'd be happy to trade a high pick for - given what he's displayed thus far.

I think that has the possibility to really backfire on us. I wouldn't over-invest in hbf. If that's a pick 10 or later, sure. If that's pick 4 and we lose a Sheezel or Wardlaw then yeesh

Mmm the way I would see it though, is that he's displayed a desire to play mid, was taken at Pick 4 originally, and has shown some seriously elite traits early on in his career.

If it were to be Pick 6-10 - don't think we'd fall as far as Pick 4 given F/S, NGA etc., even if we finished Bottom 4 - which we never have -, then so be it for a player of his calibre and with his upside. Him, Holmes, Bruhn, Knevitt and Jhye Clark, could be a 10 year midfield all with points of difference.

I'd rather give up this year's pick, but I wouldn't consider it a catastrophe if we had to give up the future 1st and we massively slid - given he was taken at Pick 4 originally anyway; and that's what we would have paid had we been the ones who drafted him in the first place.

I personally love him as a player, and think he would add so much to our side moving forward. Can see why others may think differently, but he's been one of my faves since he was drafted, and has done nothing to dispel that notion throughout his career thus far.

Not sure whether this post fits here or in “best 22” or preview…

But the Addy had a good article on the top 10 reasons Cats still can win the flag this year….and number 9 was the emerging depth of the young group. These are all outside the 23 that we probably need to win B2B but does show that we can probably do some management of that best 23 without a dramatic impact. I think the 5-6 that miss out this year from a selection perspective will be better (or in better form) that those that missed out last year?

Menegola will likely be on the list this year as well as missing last year? Parf would have missed last year and on the list this year. Ceglar I think was injured last year (and likely to be again 😳) but would have missed. And then we dropped off pretty quickly last year (to Dal, Higgins, Sav and then Dempsey and Mitch a long way off). Am I missing others that missed out last year

This year missing will be (again) Ceglar, Menegola, Parfait but also Dempsey, Knevitt, Mullin, Simpson and also probably somebody else will get squeezed out of the team after being “best 23” most of the year (If we have all available). Better depth than last year. In the end that doesn’t help you on GF day but is an intangible leading up to it with pressure on selection and ability to manage players…

It also is promising in terms of future years…

Geelong coach Chris Scott is adamant Esava Ratugolea isn't "going anywhere" as the race for the defender's services heats up.

Ratugolea's contract expires at the end of the season and Port Adelaide are reportedly circling the 70-game backman.

Geelong thwarted Port's bid to snare Ratugolea at the end of last year and Scott indicated the Cats will fight tooth and nail again to retain the 24-year-old.

"As to how hard we fight for him - about as hard as last year. He's not going anywhere," Scott told reporters on Tuesday.

"If I were Esava, I would take it as a compliment that other teams are interested and as a coach I certainly do.

"We've got players that other teams want."

Id prefer if we finish the season well and it ends up as a late r1 like bruhn but a mid r1 say p10-12 is about fair imo. I can see us making a run at him.

In having more than a vested interest in this young lad for the past 5 years I will say one thing. Elite by foot he is not. I’d be stretching it a little if I said he was great by foot… good yes. But the word elite, no... far from it.
But at 22yo and 70 games under his belt he'd fit directly into our midfield or even the Duncan role across half back which his career has so far looks eerily similar.
Would be an excellent acquisition IMO.

On Esava.
Heard this a couple weeks ago... If Scott Mack Griggsy Hocking have a say in it.
He'll be in the hoops for the next 3-4 years if my info is correct.
If it's cash. He'll get 30% elsewhere and quite easily TBH.
Up to Sav. As he can set himself up financially for life if he indeed goes interstate.
Watch this space at it will ($$$) have ramifications on the offerings to Doedee TDK Parish.
There is even the left field options which i've heard regards Witherden heading back to the region. Why we are asking? Dunno know why.
The other whisper of note is Lachie Whitfield.
Watch this space on this one. Has 4 years left on top dollars but what might come with it is the MAIN point of interest here for me.
Make of it what you will but like all rumours some are just more than that.
FWIW For me.
A catch of Lachie Ash, Darcy Parish and holding onto Sav would be an ideal scenario... with the addition of Doedee as being a real bonus.
We have a number of players at the very end of their careers in Issac Smith, Zac Tuohy & Jon Ceglar delisted/retired at years end with Danger, Duncan, Hawk, Menegola, Stanley and Guthrie most likely the year after...
Cheers Boys. Go Catters!!

I asked the question again on the possible GWS player and got nothing.

Either the club is being deliberately tight-lipped or they don't think they can get him.

Bit of both... I think the latter considering we have a few spoons in stirring the soup at this point in time i reckon.

So many guys due to leave in the next couple of years and with a cap so well looked after I can only imagine we will have huge amounts to splash when the opportunity arises.

Probably got a bit of $$$ already and that's with these older guys still on the list.

Fingers crossed for some great additions in the not too distant future.
