As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Parish is good but he ain't ever going to win a Brownlow. Good add for cash only. Less good for picks.

Also, obscenely fresh username. I rate
Thank you! I've been reading the Cats threads for a while. Thought I might sign up and post something for a change.

The reality is that you can just go and grab someone to fill the void of an all-time great.

Danger will likely at least equal or go past Gaz Junior as having the most ever 3 votes games in history this year.

Someone at that level is never easily replaced.

What a player he has been.
This is true. There aren't many players with the same level of bull like power and desperation. Given there is going to be some level of rebuild once Hawk and Danger leave, would rather just back in our youth until we get an incredible opportunity, like a JHF type.

What are everybody's thoughts on the $$$ value of a draft pick 7/12 range?

About a millionish cap room?

Bowes was 1.6mil for 2 years and is probs worth 600k so that is a 1mill difference for pick #7.

Obviously it will come very clear if cap purchasing becomes a thing.
May I ask why are people posting the questions in buying picks in the draft?
This question is to everyone? Just curious

Are any other prime ages mids likely to be gettable at the end of the season if we miss out on Parish? We are in desperate need of quality reinforcements in that age demographic.
Parish in my view is our no 1 target, but getting him is about 10%
I think this is why Geelong recruited Mitch Hardie. As his 25 and he fits the need in as we don't have any mids in that age bracket we're Parish is that age.. Hardie will play all year in the VFL and the training program of AFL will adapt him to play next year in the AFL

If Wines played for a Victorian team you probably wouldn't bother with the question.

The answer is yes

Actually: never mind. If Priddis can win a Charlie it might not be the yardstick I think.it is

Umpire when it comes time to enter in the votes: yeah that guy was standing next to me pretty much all night 3 votes

Do you think they would match 1.1mill over 5 years?

I hope we offer something overs for him that at least pushes them and makes them think about not matching.

This would be assuming that he even entertains wanting to leave the Dons, although his manager should be looking to leverage outside interest to drive a great offer from the Dons anyway (even if he really knows deep down that he wants to stay).

Yes because they have a lot of cap space and no one to spend it on unless another 1mil player wants to go there

If the Dons are keen on Ben McKay (rumored) then it basically lets me know that getting Parish as a FA without being matched (even if he did want to leave) was never gonna happen anyway.

I'm sure the club knows where it all stands and we just have to speculate whilst things are a possibility.

I'm mentally moving on from Parish being an option now.

Surely we got something bigger in the works than Tom Doodee & TDK though.

Is Will Brodie injured or just not getting a game, he was very good last season.

The latter - he can't get a game with Serong's improvement, Fyfe returning and O'Meara joining the club.

Contracted to Freo until end of 2026 so it depends on whether they want his contract off the books. I imagine he'd be next in line if any of their mids got injured and Fyfe/O'Meara aren't exactly durable.

I like accumulators - first mitts on the gonad is still the prime requisite for AFL success.
What age was CGuthrie when he became our best accumulator?
There may still be hope for Parfitt, but I acknowledge their skill sets are different

Vdubs your loyalty to Parfitt is admirable as is your concession that Cam Guthrie had a different skillset to Parfitt; as in Guthrie has skills.

Parfitt is a trier but his strengths and weaknesses are rather more obvious than those of other players and his deficiencies are not of the order that can be improved in my opinion.

I really think it's time to bank on Knevitt, Bruhn, Dempsey, Clark etc before we revert to Brandon.

Yours most respectfully SoC.

Parfitt's form this year has been disappointing, no doubt.

But he got coaches votes in 2 of the last 3 games he played last year. So he has proven he can play at the level.

He needs to get back in form, and quickly. But I think its a bit premature to say we should discard him entirely for a group of kids who have played <30 games for the club collectively. I'm hopeful for all the players you mentioned, but realistically they've not shown much at AFL level, yet. Parfitt only turned 25 a few weeks ago, there's still time for him to turn it around.

I wonder if Parfitt neglected the off-season a bit more than most and is catching his tail in terms of fitness.

He's a far better player than what he's shown this year.

He has never been one to have a really strong and fit looking body.

He doesn't have enough god-given talent to not be getting every single bit he can out of it.

I actually hope fitness is the issue because that "should be" easier to fix than just being not good enough at the level anymore.
