As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

From what I have been told, I would be VERY surprised if he stayed at Carlton. It would take a mammoth financial offer for him to resign with them.

They will have cap pressure with the big long term deals to mckay curnow williams etc. I assume they will try to trade others out and make cap room to offer tdk more but i do think he is gettable.

Actually worse than that-the pick they got for omeara was the dogs r2 (via lobb trade) which will probably be in the 30s, the pick they burned trading up was their own r2 which will probably be early 20s.

Unless meek and cooper become A graders they really havent got much for their A graders they traded out.
The only real benefit to them is it helps them lose more games next year if you assume they will tank hard to try and ger harley reid but thats a risky strategy as other teams could easily be worse than them
Mitchell and O'Meara aren't A graders. They're both cooked.

Compared to what they traded in they are lol
Depends which way you look at it. They're rebuilding so they replaced two players who are cooked with two who have loads of potential.

Out of curiosity, is that him wanting to move down the coast, or is he happy to go anywhere else? Is it more dissatisfaction being confined to the two's or specifically wants to come to us?

Look everyone can see the potential with TDK but he will be 24 next year and is currently not even a lock in Carlton’s team. There is always this frustrating bracket of players in the AFL that would cost big money and big draft capital to acquire but rarely produce to that level. Ie Stringer, Jared Brennan, De Goey etc etc

I’d be very wary of TDK. In a strange sense if he has a cracking year I’d feel better about trading for him even if it costs slightly more

I think Mitchell will bounce back. He is a one dimensional centre square mid and the Hawks moved him out of that role to develop others. Back in a good side and his right role I think he can improve. Isaac Smith looked cooked his last year at the Hawks when they chopped and changed his role as well.

Doedee
Parish
McKay
DeKonning

What is the word on who we are talking to?
I think we are no chance in getting McKay, but would love to see him keen on getting to Carlton to put even more pressure on their salary cap for the TDK contract.

Any talk or rumours on if Geelong going to get a player train in the pre-season for the last spot?
I see Narkle training with Richmond

Wells pretty much alluded to the fact that we would likely save it for the MSD, in his interview post draft. Something could change, but I daresay we're keeping it open to allow for any injuries in areas we lack depth (KPD comes to mind)

I remember losing Allen Christensen and being disappointed that we got Rhys Stanley. Paid off well.
Gee that was terrible being a last minute trade that came out of nowhere , I was filthy at the timing but I’m happy he sorted his life out in the end

DeGoey hasn't produced? I think he has.

good Caddy replacement- a very limited opportunist

You’d think that we will use next years draft to target a couple of key position players. And possibly another ruck albeit that Phoenix might help to address that in some way. If we trade for T.DeKoning we are set in that area for quite some time with Conway looking promising.

Possible retirees include Hawkins, Smith, Tuohy, and Rohan. We really have adequate players coming through positionally to cover the last 3. Hawkins is basically irreplaceable. We’d need to be kissed on the xxxx by a fairy to get an equivalent player.

Agree with all that. Also likely retirees in 12 months would be stanley ceglar and potentially menegola (sam might not retire but might go elsewhere as free agent).
Cuthrie duncan and paddy all have contracts for 2024 and i think blitz has a bit left in him.
We have a lot of good mids to cover retirements but the ruck depends on conway and i agree hawk is irreplaceable..we need to hold neale and get another kpp in a trade also.

If we had a current player in the 30+ age bracket likely to go on till they were 35-36 who would you be thinking?

I’d be assuming one of Stewart or Blicavs but I rate your opinion higher than mine on all things GFC

Inb4 someone says Hawkins lol

Blicavs or stewart because they were both late starters and in blitz case is a very elite athlete.
Guys who get drafted at 18 rarely play to 35-36- thesedays.
