As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

And he often holds his own with the best rucks in the league. It’s his stinkers that people remember.
I remember him winning the first knockout in the GF, spending 2 hours clobbering a bloke who'd given him a couple of hidings in the past, then standing on the Premiership dais.
The rest of his career is a blur.

IVe given Rhys what for when he's earned it and he's had deplorable games.

So has PFD and Tomma - everyone has shit games - Granted Rhys had more than these 2.

Rhys in 2022 was a far better and more consistent version and the coaching tweek that moved him around made him a bette player.
Did he dominate - no - but we have a 2022 Cup that his contributions helped obtain.

For that I will be eternally thankful.

Ripping him now seems pointless.

It's always important to remember in any discussion on this website that Geelong won the 2022 AFL premiership

Seriously who gives a crap about whether Stanley is good or not.
He’s a premiership ruckman who had a very good season by his standards.

A lot of blokes on here just like to find something to complain about
That's correct all the players who let us down before there slate is clean now, after winning a premiership

So true - you are only as good as your last game and our mob had an absolute f**** blinder :p
120 minutes of pressure, power football with everyone playing their role and never losing focus - I love Daisy's description in the second half about being dog hungry despite being so far in front.

I honestly think people just get bored with all this pre season downtime, so arguments like this about Stanley tend to pop up due to there being not much else to dwell on/talk about.

Tbh, I'm more than happy just watching our 2022 replays and endlessly waiting for jumper numbers, haha.

Next season will be here before we know it and then we'll all have something to complain about again!

This. We are the only team that shouldn't be getting down on our club, the players or the decisions made...but still, there's some that just aren't happy unless we're unhappy.

It is what it is, but I thought we'd at least get 1 year of 'who cares what happens?' Unfortunately, we've seen so much success in recent times, that some are physically unable to imagine where we're not competing - so are always perpetually preparing for the next season. I reckon it mostly comes from a good place, but I think some need to take a step back and remember how damn hard it is to keep competing - let alone win the whole damn thing.

I personally will be dining out on this all next year and beyond, and just hope to see some of the new faces and some new ideas. Finals and anything else from there is a bonus - especially after the fairytale season we just had :)

Bolded for mine - but I will say that doesn't mean we can't look to get better in 23 - and we'll need to.

I'm with you mate, it's a surreal feeling to go into a footy season and not have to worry about what will happen. What will be will be.

If we challenge for B2B, that's awesome. If we struggle, we get the opportunity to play some kids now that we finally have a young nucleus of elite talent coming through.

Naturally option 1 is far more desirable, but option 2 doesn't bother me much in the slightest. We're so blessed to follow this great club, and now that we're at the top again it's so satisfying to just let things playout with minimal fuss about how things end.

Another Cats flag in 2023 would be a dream come true, but if it's not to be then it's hardly going to cause an off-season of disdain for the club like previous years.

The point being, as long as Richmond or Hawthorn don't win it, it doesn't really bother me next year 🤣

Last week at the club shop they had run out of fives, as I wanted to have it on my indigenous jumper.

Amateur hour isn't it, you'd think they'd just send someone to a crafts store to get some fabric and a pair of scissors, we could have been talking about which player got which number for the last week and a half

A flag in 23 would be unbelievable, but the dream come true was this year for me. I still can’t believe how good that day was, it was close to perfect for me as a supporter.

On the money Daz - we can’t afford to rest on our premiership laurels - if you stay still you go backwards in this game.
We will once again be the hunted and the Club most will try to emulate as often happens once you take home the silverware.

I think we will continue to see coaching innovation , particularly with the trade period we have had plus many from 2022 who haven’t debued as yet.

I’m super excited about 2023, I really hope we continue to evolve and innovate, get the feeling we will be bold now we have broken the 11 year drought👍

I think with Stanley, we have set a high bar with him after the outgoing Ottens from the premiership era earlier.

I don't mind Stanley. On his day he can be damaging. Other days he breaks even. Some days he gets demolished. I think he has served well enough, especially now that we have a premiership post 2011.

I for one am hoping for B2B - after all certain other teams I won't name managed it.

But some other teams are going to be harder to beat next season - the Dees, the Dogs, the Lions and possibly the Blues. I might have forgotten one. This means we'll need to improve 10-15% on this year. And we may well achieve that, given the new talent we have brought in to the club.

I have always liked Stanley, partly because he gets clearances himself, takes a few marks and can kick a goal. He's not a great tap ruckman, true, and has lacklustre days, but he and Blicavs in combination were clearly hard to stop this year.
