As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Can I get a game? I look like a footballer. Just as long as there aren't any actual footballs involved.
I'll leave that decision to Wells and Mackie. They'll be told no long hair, no man buns and no headbands.

He's leading the 'Reverse Coleman' isn't he?

I think it's actually Darcy Moore, but BZT would be up there too. Hawkins has given him a couple of touch-ups this year alone.

Re our KPD needs, I think we're better off taking Connor O'Sullivan in the draft. Captained the Allies to their first champs win this year and took out their MVP ahead of guys like McKercher, Sanders and Walter. He's a 198cm key defender with lovely skills.

He'd make for a good sub.
I would be really happy if they rotated the sub through mature players for sure. Duncan, Rohan, Blitz, Parf, MOC (not that old but a pretty decent sub), even Danger…as a way of getting managed and also potentially managing others in game - but also having an impact. I hope that anyone under 25 either plays in 22 or in VFL…

Agreed. Sub is the worst possible role for very young players. I would rather they start and then get subbed out for a Rohan/Duncan late in the 3rd quarter if they were worried about their tank.

Henry and Kolodjashnij for a start.

Both better footballers as 3rd talls.
Henry is our CHB. Kolo is indeed a third tall. So is that it? We have Kolo and u rate him better? Ok 👌 well you have convinced me of nothing of the sort… lol 😂. Anyway moving on I just hope Conner O’Sullivan better be available for us

Henry yes, Kolo no. Kolo, besides a window late last season that lasted through finals, has not lit the world on fire. Gets a game due to injuries or no alternatives but honestly think to any match this year where you went "wow he was great, really did a number on his opponent."

You will struggle to name one.
And then add in his ball use became easily the worst in the team, and I wouldn't be against someone else coming in if a suitable trade for Kolo came in.

Parish If he costs nothing in terms of draft collateral.

I wouldn't be giving pick 7/8 for either.
I'd be happy to trade pick 7 or 8 for Smith.

Picks 6-10 have an average of 122 games played. Given that Smith is 22 years old, he should easily surpass that number with Geelong. With around 90 games under his belt, he's just entering his prime. Although his performance this year was subpar, there could be reasons behind that dip, or it might just be a down season. Last year, he averaged 30 possessions per game and won the Best and Fairest award the year before. He was picked for the 22 Under 22 team three seasons in a row (at ages 20, 21, and 22), which shows consistent good form. He would also fulfill a dire need for a quality midfielder, which Geelong must address if we want to contend again any time soon.

Bringing him in wouldn't be a seismic shift like bringing in Dangerfield, but it would be a coup. He is player with a lot of football ahead of him.

Thankfully ZT will never be at Geelong.

You're simply overeating Zerk-Thatcher. A player like him is best served out of an oven.

I think if we fast forward 12 months we'll see a different Geelong team which has hopefully managed to get itself back in a position to contend. I've made a few assumptions about players in from other clubs / or off our list - the one's I think more likely than others. I'll be miles off but it's an interesting exercise to go through.

Backs: Bowes DeKoning Z Guthrie
Mullin J Henry Stewart

Centre: Holmes Blicavs B Smith**

Forwards: O Henry Cameron Dangerfield
Stengle Hawkins Miers

Followers: Conway** C Guthrie Bruhn

I/Change: Atkins Knevitt Close Clark

Sub: Duncan

Emg: Stanley O'Connor Rohan

Who misses? Kolo / Bews / Parfitt / Neale / Dempsey

  • Ollie Henry overtakes Gary Rohan
  • Conway overtakes Stanley (provided Blicavs provided ruck chopout)
  • Bailey Smith replaces Isaac Smith
  • Mullin sneaks in ahead of Kolo or Bews for the extra run we need off half back
  • Bowes sneaks in ahead of Kolo or Bews in defence as he has the midfield string to his bow (see what I did there)
  • Dangerfield plays less midfield minutes but used effectively in bursts - but becomes a weapon inside 50
  • Could swap Bruhn with Atkins for starting midfield (or even Clark) but that's part of match rotations anyway
  • Duncan will be horses for courses but needs to be carefully managed

Given Bevo is breaking his wrist punching whiteboards, plus all the whispers about Dogs culture, I'd be surprised if Smith didn't improve.markedly at literally any other footy club.

I do think that with the exception of this year Kolo has gotten better every year. He made what seemed like a quantum leap last year. I just think that this year he's been made to defend smaller, gotten exposed a few times, probably knocked his confidence. I've been a defender of his but bringing in Doedee and dropping kolo to the 2s is not the worst idea

Yeah 2016-2021 he was a 6 or 7 out of 10 performer with the odd sprinkling of 5s (the odd memorable 4) and 8s. And I'd say with incremental improvement on those ratios each year.

Last year he did take a leap and became a 7-8/10 player who didn't dip, and even went beyond for the last two finals.

This year has been a quantum leap back and he's become a 5 out of 10, week in, week out. Where 4s aren't even that rare.

So I do think it's unfair to say he's simply reverted to pre 2022 levels. He's really struggled even in the areas he used to be capable at.
