I don't think we have to draft a state league ruckman, and with the MSD there are fewer options. Having Ceglar on the list as backup was a waste of time - 9 games in two years. It's not worth drafting a bloke to just play 3-4 games a season.
There are quite a few decent ruck options in this year's draft - Edwards, Goad, Green, etc. They might not be plug-and-play, but they just need to be backup if Stanley AND Conway go down. And then they will likely be much better long-term prospects than a mature age pick up.
Also, if we draft someone like O'Sullivan or Curtin we'll have the KPD cover to be able to send Blicavs/SDK into the ruck.
Yeah I imagine if we do get one, it'll be in the SSP, unless a ruck that we rate higher has fallen dramatically down the board on draft night.
The intention will be to not play whoever we pick next year anyway with Stanley and Conway doing all the ruckwork. So we're probably better off just waiting as long as we can and only pulling the trigger on a replacement during SSP if one of them gets injured in the offseason. If we're unlucky and both Stanley and Conway are fit to start the season and then get injured, we can just get someone in the MSD.
