Can’t see it happening unless he’s taking massive unders ..would be hard to walk away from a contract that the saints are reportedly offering

I cant see us offer much different to Carlton ..so he would still be a 7 figure type player . The Stk offer is another level. Id say he is Stk bound. Who knocks back 600 a year?

Devils advocate. Carlton have no R1 pick… and have the blues almost reached a point where they are already seeing the pick they will gain from FA, and therefore, perhaps any band1 offer will not be matched?

If #FishGutz is on the money and Reid wants to get to us (fingers crossed), wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that we have had some talks with his management and it's been ticked off that we can/could meet financial terms with him.

I'll back us in coin-wise.

I'd love nothing more for him to come for massive unders and the conspiracy theory blow-up to a new level.
Yeah the money is there and wouldn’t break out structure like other sides will. For example Essendon or Saints. But there’s a pretty obvious reason a lot are ruling them out. And I know it’s that dimwit we all hate but he does get some good intel on Geelong, just like the Oliver stuff. But Reid does want to win and will buy in if he comes. But like you said, would be funny if we just reported 600k per season to troll every supporter base hahaha

Thks for the info..

If what you say was some meat on it…then I hope we get Conway on the ground this year to let him show some potential. Fatten the calve they say… but he only has to show what he can do and he will have someone show interest. But I doubt we get anything meaningful in a trade. Unless he is on good coin ..I sort of struggle to see what we gain from trading him out.

It surprises me the negativity towards Toby Conway regardless of his unfortunate injuries early in his career. As I see Toby being one of our most important players at the Cattery going forward with not only being our leading ruckman but also being in the top 3 ruckman in the AFL and I have no doubt the Geelong hierarchy see Toby exactly the same way (a almost Damian Bourke clone who was a former top 3 ruckman in the VFL and Geelong Captain) hence why they recently renewed his contract.

it will take quite a bit of trading and and shuffling but it is all achievable.

say for eg. and this is not what l would like to do and of course the player may not be onboard also

we trade Conway to crows for a second round
we trade Kolo to North for a second round
We trade Mannagh and a future second and third to Carlton for a future first (they will need for Cody Walker )

we send a combination of seconds and thirds to Bris or Gold Coast for their 2025 first ( academy guys)

that would give us two first in 2025 and two in 2026
we could then send those 4 to eagles
or could be to send Atkins or MOC to eagles with picks

at the end of the day who knows what the eagles will accept in a trade for Reid
they may want compensation for Kelly trade as well

but in the end we will have to lose a few players to get it done and Geelong always do it well.

Conway is barely worth anything with his injuries and kolo is a free agent (unless you are talking compo pick).
And I'd be livid if we traded mannagh this year.
But I get your general idea and I agree someone of value might have to get traded to satisfy the Eagles.

Freddy to the Saints… ?

THIRD TIME LUCKY?

FORMER Collingwood and Geelong utility Nathan Kreuger is back on the radar of AFL clubs ahead of next month's Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

The 25-year-old joined Geelong's VFL program after being delisted by the Magpies last year and has starred while playing predominantly in defence across the first month of the season, averaging 15.7 disposals and eight marks to draw the attention of recruiters.

Kreuger played for the VFL in the state game win against the SANFL in the Barossa Valley on Saturday.

Melbourne, St Kilda and Collingwood are understood to be a few of the clubs keeping tabs on the South Australian, who can provide readymade coverage at either end of the ground.

The Magpies delisted Kreuger at the end of last season after 13 games across three injury-interrupted seasons – following two appearances for Geelong in three years – but Craig McRae was a fan of the 196cm swingman and tight list spots were behind that decision.

Collingwood will have a spot available after Reef McInnes ruptured his ACL last month and is considering options for defensive coverage. With seven rounds to play between now and the Mid-Season Rookie Draft, other clubs could need key position depth by then. – Josh Gabelich

I still would be moving someone like bews to the inactive list and taking kreuger ourselves for coverage (I know it depends on whether other clubs have picks ahead of us in the msd order).

I think Marshall is absolutely gettable, if TDK goes to the Saints for that coin he isn't being paid that money to be back up ruck, he is there and displacing Marshall, and thats when we should be telling Marshall the ruck spot is his while we wait for Conway etc to develop.
Marshall is 29 now, will be 30 start of next season so we likely get 2 or 3 seasons out of him, but thats enough time for either Conway becomes durable, or we see potential out of Edwards/Pike/Molier, or we find a different journeyman ruck.

And we have had good success stealing rucks off St Kilda...

I think they are going to play Marshall fwd given the uncertainty over king. Given Marshall isn't a super tap ruck but is great around the ground it makes sense.
But back to my original point you aren't paying 2 r1s for a 30yo and they won't trade him for less so I doubt it happens.

Any idea what the deal would have been? Maybe we are lucky as his form this year is hardly brownlow level..

Melbourne wanted a r1 (current or future) and we told them stuff it we were paying no more than a future 2nd and half his wage. It fell over because of the pick and because they didn't want to pay half his wage (reading between the lines).

I would be ok ..granted not happy …but ok with a trade like scenario of picks with managh, Atkins and Toby involved

Would that get the job done I don’t know, I suspect they would go hard for Humpries as well

Which is all ridiculous as Reid is in his second year and hasn’t proven anything yet

This is pure speculation on my behalf but I could see us getting a second round pick for Conway, maybe with some back end picks moving around.

Another player is Kolo who has a year remaining and could experience to a club. Again, it take moving picks around but could work out to get a second rounder.

Then there is obviously Edwards but is value is completely unknown.

Jhye Clark is another who we might say to a club take him for a second rounder. Call it a loss and move on if it gives us assets.

Gathering the picks will be hard work. But there’s way. And again, the emphasis is on the fact no matter how much we trade, we believe we will get some free agents. So in effect anything we do is the picks/players for Reid + free agents. So it’s a net win.

TDK is a curveball though, have no heard that one at all until today. I would be very shocked but hope it’s true.

FishGutz: it's hard to get a 2nd round pick for Toby Conway when he's not going anywhere. I'm still amazed on this Geelong Big Footy forum with the lack of foresight and how undervalued Toby is seen..... thankfully the club thinks otherwise!

He has a heap of potential but atpit…we do not know if he is like Gawn ..or Daw Simpson. Gwn took too his year4 to start to get going. I think Toby needs to show some on the field form soon.

AS it stands ..id say our assessment was spot on … but I can see their POV

That’s fair. I haven’t heard anything suggesting he is but a good ITK on here said he’s being shopped so I’m using it as an example.

If you were guessing a ruck. Who is it?

I'm not sure I think we will bring in someone but I don't think we will pay massive money for a ruck which is why we won't get tdk.
I wonder about maybe ROB we were keen last year and he's UFA this year. Plus with his studies and medical degree he might be keen to get back to Vic.
Otherwise probably a fringe type id say I could have seen us being keen on Bryan but acl will end that.

Clubs would be crazy to trade anything for Conway with his medical history.
Kolo is a UFA (if he doesn't formally sign and enact the trigger) there's no trade and I imagine we would get 2nd/3rd round compo at best.
Clark is one that would maybe have currency bur honestly for what we would get offered we are better off keeping him. Plus I doubt be would leave Victoria which narrows the market anyway.
Edwards we would definitely want to keep.

I can't see tdk leaving 1.7 on the table at skilda to sign for 1.1 here.

A lot of it was PR wise, they couldn't stomach getting bugger all for a b n f winner and paying half his wage. But with the albatross contract that's all we were prepared to trade. We clearly wanted him here and he clearly wanted to come.

Toby has no value due to injuries and atkins limited value due to age. Heart and soul guys like that you are better to keep over some 3rd rounder. Mannagh has more value but id be reluctant to give it up.
The reality is there's no realistic scenario in which we push for Reid and wce don't ask for at least one of humphries neale or Edwards back the other way. Whether we can find a way to satisfy them without giving up one of those guys is the question.

Maybe they would have been better off to bite the bullet. Do you think its done now. No interest this year.
