Maybe they would have been better off to bite the bullet. Do you think its done now. No interest this year.

I think it's too late with him nearly 30 now. We won't pay more than last year unless they have a change of heart he's stuck there.

Toby has no value due to injuries and atkins limited value due to age. Heart and soul guys like that you are better to keep over some 3rd rounder. Mannagh has more value but id be reluctant to give it up.
The reality is there's no realistic scenario in which we push for Reid and wce don't ask for at least one of humphries neale or Edwards back the other way. Whether we can find a way to satisfy them without giving up one of those guys is the question.

Mannagh's not that young though. May only have a few more years of top flight football left in him

Id say we have to prepare ourselves for some pain if we are to make it happen… and as it stands , I'm not convinced H,N or E would want to go back. Cant see any obvious way we get it done in 25. 3rd club maybe?

.. and he would still only be on min chips as a 2nd year draftee. He signed for a 3rd year at Geelong. Security? But if he got a big offer and wanted out …he is probably one we could tolerate as a loss if the gain was significant enough.

That's true but my issue is more only a top 6 club will want a guy his age and he's the type of guy that could make a said club a winner. I wouldn't be giving him to a direct top competitor if we had a choice (obviously if he's ooc it's different).

Id rather give our draftee’s a go..so I hope your right. If we are going to bring in someone , id prefer someone a little younger… which has been the mantra under Hocking.

We definitely need mids I just think it will be the middle age bracket we go for not Clayton's age.

When he's under contract this year I don't think we can do it. Next year when he's ooc 3 r1s and a fringe player might get closer.
I think neale is very settled here and I don't think the club would want to release humphries. And really we need Edwards unless we bring a top ruck in.

Pretty much the song I have been singing. WC could just demand anything this year just for the sake of it.

He has a heap of potential but atpit…we do not know if he is like Gawn ..or Daw Simpson. Gwn took too his year4 to start to get going. I think Toby needs to show some on the field form soon.

Nearly fell off my chair when I read that remark Turbocat:.... maybe not Gawn but then again no one is but a top 3 ruckman in AFL, most certainly YES. Dawson Simpson was only ever going to be a good ordinary AFL ruckman at best, with or without injuries and it's comments like yours Turbocat: that really baffles me. It's like many a good folk here on Geelong Big Footy telling me earlier in year that COS was not ready for seniors in 2025 which once again completely baffled me. You can go back thru all my previous posts and see I'm never too far of the mark but with some others, I just seriously scratch my head at times in utter confusion.

That’s fair. I haven’t heard anything suggesting he is but a good ITK on here said he’s being shopped so I’m using it as an example.

The only reason FishGutz: (if true)..... if indeed Toby Conway is being shopped around, would be with long term injury concerns and IF that was the case, then that would most definitely be a 'major concern'. But it was only less than 2 weeks ago that they renewed his contract which simply makes 'no sense' to us wanting to offloading him.

People are loosing their shit at the idea of Carl Steinfort's son being NGA eligible for Geelong and blaming it purely on the idea of the league looking after Geelong - cause the league def looked after us when it came to Idun & JUH 🤦‍♀️

Dawson played some football in 2013 in particular that showed he could be a very very good ruckman. But the issue was he could never stay fit. The comparison to Conway is quite fair.

Tom has a younger brother who’s quite handy too.

Based on some quick research, it would seem that Tom is the oldest of 3 sons

Not sure if you can help with clarity around Tom's NGA eligibility, but I'm thinking it's based on point 3 from the below:

ELIGIBILITY

To qualify for the Geelong Cats NGA the player:

  1. Resides in the Geelong Cats zone in Victoria or the Northern Territory
  2. Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  3. Was born in an African, Asian or non-English speaking country
  4. Has at least one parent born in an African or Asian country; or
  5. Has both parents born in a non-English speaking country other than Africa or Asia

As it stands TobyC was drafted in 2021 , and is now in his 4th year and has played 6 games. So what is his future? How will his body stand up?

Gawn was drafted in 2009 , played 3 games in his first 3 years but by his 4th year he became pretty much a regular player.. and has played 229 games.

Daw Simpson was drafted in 2007 , played 3 games in his first 4 years … then went on to play only 11 in his first 6 years and eventually had a 48 game career.

So my point is not as much about comparing talent …but slow starts. Gawn had injuries , had a slow start but by the 4th year basically came good and very reliable. DawS body unfortunately was never really reliable. ..in 12 years of footy his best ever season was 13 games before he again became injured in 2014.

As far as talent goes… Toby has a lot of potential. How good he becomes will depend on him becoming a reliable robust player to max that potential. Id say Darcy over at Fremantle is someone who has been affected by injury but he has at least played 111 games , probably enough to show he had talent but he will fall short of what he might have been thru injury and wear an tear.

Nothing in our NGA for f*cking years, and now it's pouring, lol.

Mellor and Rongdit this year and Steinfort who apparently looks alright and one to watch for a few years time.

Its not quite top10 talent but at least it is something. Look at 4 minute sof highlights of the game V Rich VFL… Rongdit has a good leap … but only time will tell if he has more to offer than being a late/ rookie pick

Pretty funny that people still talk about us getting father sons.

How many F/S or NGA players have we had bid on since it started in 2008? I'm pretty sure the number is 0 with every player we've taken (Bews, Simpson, Clohesy, etc) either being taken with our last pick in the main draft or in the rookie draft.

Every year there are a few top 20 picks that are either F/S or academy and we've had none in almost 20 years.
