I cannot believe we are still seriously discussing the idea of bringing Oliver in.

He's like Jack Steven was when he came to us - but slower, fatter, poorer skilled, less fit and interested, and has more issues. Plus he'd cost more.

Take out the game Worpel was injured and he's going at 22 disposals, 6 clearances and 6 score involvements per game. He can defend at stoppage and move around fine. He's younger and there are no identified attitude issues. His ball use is average but not sub-par. Then he'll be cheaper.

Get Worpel if he's available - there's your workhorse. Then try and land a star who moves the needle like Butters.

I would gather that due to the circumstances, this will be pushed up to a higher court. It will be an absolute circus.

Exactly. And it won't be thrown out unless the cops are useless and he won't plead guilty so the mention hearing is a tick and flick. We have to wait for a proper hearing in a few months time (could be longer).

Definitely, but I guess it's less noticeable when you were never an adonis to begin with.

Prime Oliver still just looked like your average 'gym bro' rather than someone like Bailey Smith, so it's far less of a concern for mine.

The whole things got red flags written all over it before you even get to the contract.

At least we could just see Steven out after one year.

And the question may need to be asked as to how successful that deal really was for Sydney - yes they made a couple of grand finals during Buddy's time with them, but they never achieved the ultimate success

Not necessarily the straight up long term deal like that, but Dangerfield signed an initial 6-yr deal with us and following the 2019 season where he still had 2 years remaining on that contract, he signed a 3-yr extension to take him through to 2024 - so only 1 contract extension in his first 9yrs at the club

Yeah that would play into it as well , plus if MFC ever wants to cut him he would get a big payout

They are now bound together due to that stupid stupid contract …you could kinda justify such a big contract for a forward as they don’t generally have to rely on their speed which can decline year after year

Just wrote a post referencing what negotiating terms could be done 'if' we were interested in Oliver but with your 'above written' Mr Meow I tend to support and agree with you.

And he is a workhorse, a real good one and the Hawks appear to be a better side with him in it, therefore it's so strange that the Hawks seem to be wanting to off-load him, even if it is has got to do with salary cap restrictions. I'd thought they'd find someone else but then again I'm a big fan of Sam Mitchell as he's one very astute operator, so I guess he knows best if they do decide to off-load him.

I don’t think setting a Premiership as the determining factor on whether it was a success is right. By that logic Gary Ablett’s recruitment from Hawthorn did not pay off.

I agree 100%. Add Worpel and use the money to grab TDK. Thats an extra 10+ clearance and 25 contested possession per game in the midfield.

Oliver carries an unbelievable amount of risk. With Melbourne paying 500K we would still be out of pocket $1 Million per year by the end of the contract. Just a shocking contract.

There is one club on the other side of Melbourne who might be sniffing around though..
