Saints will give Worpel a butt load more $$ than us so wouldn't surprise me.Quick update:
It’s all happening this year, it’s madness…
Butters meeting confirmed. Basic indication is he is 100% leaving at the end of 2026. Race is on. (I personally think we should get Hinkley in some role to persuade).
Conversations with Reid’s management are strong and frequent. This is becoming more live by the day.
Conversation with JUH and his management occurred over the weekend. Lots of feeling out there but interest definitely not dead.
No updates on TDK.
No updates on Rowell.
No updates on Oliver.
Also, asked about Worpel. The news I’m hearing is he will go to Saints.
Even buddy had a big stretch of injury plagued yearsBesides Buddy Franklin is there anyone that has been an overwhelming success for a long term deal?
Saints are chasing Oliver and TDK. Not sure about Worpel so I will ask. Their list management team is obsessed with getting a big name star and that's all they want to talk about. Just pure frustration that they are offering 300-400k more than other clubs for players and yet no one will bite. Ross Lyon seems to be well liked among the playing group and the players who do meet Ross like him.Quick update:

If you ask Dogs supporters, almost to a man we wouldn’t do a straight swap – Baz for Kennedy. Not because Baz isn’t more talented, but in a well-functioning team you need players who do their role and allow others to flourish. That’s exactly what Kennedy gives us.Which makes it even more funny, how did they find room for Kennedy in their inside mid rotation and not Macrae.
It means someone else is missing out
A man of the marching powder might go marching into the east side of town?I agree 100%. Add Worpel and use the money to grab TDK. Thats an extra 10+ clearance and 25 contested possession per game in the midfield.
Oliver carries an unbelievable amount of risk. With Melbourne paying 500K we would still be out of pocket $1 Million per year by the end of the contract. Just a shocking contract.
There is one club on the other side of Melbourne who might be sniffing around though..

If it happens we can expect a solid rise in the number of threads about our players on their board.Doggies supporters punching walls.
No current season stats available
We can sign Reid on a bridge deal to make room for the likes of Butters and others. It’s easily doable, given that our players are cost-controlled and our cap management is excellent.
Bowes, Stewart, Cameron, Danger and others will be coming off large contracts, moved to the veterans list, or Duncan + Rhys retired.
The AFL community will absolutely lose it when we land both Reid and Butters (and more) — and I, for one, will be loving every second of it. Suck it, losers

We were all over JUH a month or 2 ago and it looked almost certain we would get him. Not so sure now with his behavioural issues.
it's funny that the prevailing theme amongst Dogs supporters is that Baz is actually a bad footballer and they made out like bandits in the tradeI am sorry but that is an overly emotional response to the situation if that is what you truly believe.
He is now proving to be one of the most dynamic midfielders in the competition and he is 24.
You may well win the Flag without him, but you would clearly be even better with him.
They're more interested in who's coming than who's going. I had a squiz around when Warner signed on for Sydney and there was a lot of talk about that and Bont going to WC. Re Reid, most of them are just whatevs, it'd be nice if he stayed but if he goes that might just put a bit of icing on top of an already incredible draft haul.Decided to take a look at West Coast's trade board to see what they were saying about Reid.
Legit not a word and I scrolled back 5 pages to Sunday arvo, then gave up.
Weird... I thought he would be dominating it, but they are talking more about Charlie Constable in the MSD lol.
From afar, the thing I’ve most admired about Geelong over the last two decades is the quality of people in your playing group. Selwood, Hawkins, Dangerfield etc...you always knew what you’d get. Ultimate team players.I am sorry but that is an overly emotional response to the situation if that is what you truly believe.

I actually think if we somehow (not sure how) landed Reid and wiped out all of our picks that it would increase the chances of landing Butters FA.How would getting both Butters and Reid even be possible? Seems obviously crazy to me. They'd be worth a combined value of 5 first round draft picks. We're so far off having the trade capital to pull something like that off within two seasons it's not funny.

I agree that we cant trade for both. But if Butters did choose us, and we had no draft capital, does it make it more or less likely Port match and force a trade? Or does it make compensation more attractive?
I honestly think GWS matched us for Cameron because we held so many draft picks at that time. They knew they could get a better deal than compensation. So they went after it. But if we didnt, do they bother? Not so sure.
Who knows but its exciting to think about lol This is why I love this thread. Even if it all ends up in crushing dissapointment.
It's unlikely Dangerfield will be on large contracts next season - when he signed for 2 years after last season it would most likely have been on a lower yearly rate than if he was signing single year deals
Bowes will be coming off contract also but he's isn't a crazy deal - while he had $1.6 million over 2 years remaining at the Suns when he was traded, it was smoothed out with a bit more added in where it worked out at roughly $550k per season which isn't significantly more than last year's average salary of $494k
Stewart & Cameron are both contracted through to 2027. Stewart re-signed in Dec 23 and will likely be on good money through to the end of his contract. Jezza already had a confirmed 1 year deal for next year having reached his games trigger clause, but he extended that by another year and would think there's a bit of a pay cut in there for the last year of his new deal
That's also no such thing as the 'Veterans List', that was phased out by the AFL been 2011 & 2017; so we're now 8 years without it.

Guthrie is the other big one. Signed a 4 year deal after 2021 coming off AA and B&F in 2020 followed by top 5 in the B&F in 2021. He'd be in our top 5 paid players.
Yeah there’s a strong chance it will start getting nutted out if Eagles are convinced it’s the best path.Is there a chance the Reid move to us is announced or at least agreed in principle behind the scenes before the season is over? Seems like his management would be informing the WCE shortly…
You werent playing Baz in his preferred position, hard to do your role when you dont know what it is. Look at him this year, throw him where he plays best and results speak for themselves. If you ask Dogs supporters, almost to a man we wouldn’t do a straight swap – Baz for Kennedy. Not because Baz isn’t more talented, but in a well-functioning team you need players who do their role and allow others to flourish. That’s exactly what Kennedy gives us.
He did, but I still think Franklin for what he gave Sydney was an overwhelming success. But even then like you said, he wasn't a generational talent for the Swom like he was for the Hawks.Even buddy had a big stretch of injury plagued years
Alastair Lynch.
Could argue Alistair Lynch, maybe?
But he missed a few years with illness too so probably not
His wage was cheap by the end of it
He’s comingQuick update:

Yep, that's one which finished this season
And don't get be wrong as I love Guthrie, but unless he can get on the park for a solid 10+ games this season, I don't think he'll be on our list next season which would likely open a bit of money
Blicavs is coming to the end of a 2-yr extension this year but think we'll see him re-sign before seasons end - just a question if it's a 1yr or 2yr extension, and I wouldn't be opposed to a 2-yr deal
Please note I don't have an idea on actual figures, but I could see a 1yr deal being at like $500k, but if signed for 2yrs it's on say a combined $800k-$900k - so a lower annual wage but more guaranteed overall
Dempsey and Atkins are the other 2 main best 22 players out of contract this year - the former is the one I can see us needing to stump to a little more to retain with interest from other clubs. While there's some talk of Atkins gaining interest from elsewhere, I'd hope our offer is at a respectful enough level for him to re-sign, though I don't see him as one who'd be on crazy money that would see him in the top 5/6 paid at the club type thing
