Mitch Knevitt signed a one year extension only a few days ago.
I doubt that he is going anywhere.

The way i look at these contracts.
Gotta keep players in contract as they are worth more to trade swap or move.
The 1 year is a bit of a.... Yeah Nah we aren't sure if this is going to work between us.

We'd have to completely change somebody's role.

Something like Miers becoming a full time midfielder rather than part time. Jez starts playing a Richo style role off the wing. Neale develops his ruck craft and becomes more 50/50 like Thilthorpe.

It could work, but as you say, we have more urgent needs elsewhere, and we'd already have even more players making way in those scenarios if we're getting Worpel and Marshall too.

I feel for Charlie, and he's certainly earning my adulation being so desperate to play here - but he had his chance.

The only way any of this happens (and I don't want it to happen) is if we are going to let SDK go to St Kilda for Marshall + picks, and even maybe letting Lawson go too if he thinks that's where he'll be longer-term.

It's just too hard otherwise. Not only do we not have the picks, we barely even have the list spots.

Guys like Clohesy, Ivisic, and Pike only open up rookie slots, and Mullin will take one of those anyway.

Interesting times.

Yeah, you'd want immense confidence that he has Jez like longevity (even better if it's Tomahawk like) if we're going big here.

Giving up what we're going to give up, you want more than two great years.

Now I want Curnow considering it’ll evolve our forward line into something new that teams will have to start again to work out.

We’d have to trade with Carlton as if the rumour is true that Charlie would drop his salary to fit in. They’d not get any reward from trading him via the league.

Charlie is a pipe dream, basically, only suits him at this stage and means we’d have to haul draft assets elsewhere which would put us in doubt for guys like Butters.

I think we'll see him next season, and maybe even sign a contract extension next year to go around again in 2027

I could see him stepping down as captain though and throwing his full support behind whoever it is the tasks the mantle

When a player like Curnow is so openly willing to join your club, you make moves to make it happen, so I do think Mackie and co are working at how we can do it. There’s no doubt in my mind Jez & Charlie would make a tremendous partnership, but my issue is where does it leave Neale and his development after having such a good season?

And if Danger wants to play on, can you play Jez, Neale, Curnow & Danger all in the same forward line?

No doubt... I don't think for one moment that we will get him.

I'm just saying that if he was fit and on our list, finding spot for him would be the furthest thing from an issue I could think of.

He's a jet... a gun.. a star forward who wins it in the air and on the ground.

Doubt he becomes a Cat.. but anyone thinking we wouldn't have a spot for him aint thinking well IMO.

Maybe Curnow has already been told he'd be getting silver service from Butters.

Also thought it was interesting that Smith had pre Brownlow refreshments at Curnow's joint in Melbourne, and that Dangerfield (when interviewed by Bec Madden at the Brownlow) went out of his way to say that he and a few other Cats players would be catching up pre Grand Final at their new local Surf Coast (Torquay) licensed establishment owned and operated by yes ......... Charlie and Ed Curnow.

At least we don't have to buy Curnow a farm. The family farm is literally a couple of decent drop punts away from another Geelong player already (who likes himself a pair of dodgy speed dealer sunnies).

I feel like playing Jezza up the ground more is just moving away from his strengths ..yes he has good stints playing around the ground but we all saw earlier last year or this year? How much it was affecting the forward line and he had little impact around the ground

Only way I can see it working is if Danger plays out of the F50 which would mean he plays far less games going forward or if he retires

O.henry basically becomes tradable unless he goes into a new position as we can’t have that many talls in the F50 with Neale down there

I just worry it’s another Brisbane move when they had Fev and Brown on the same team, but Cunrow is making all these noise very publically and we did chase him a few years ago

I agree that Edwards is a couple years away (at least) from playing AFL.

But I want him to be playing as much ruck as possible in the VFL during those two years, is the point. And with Rhys in the 2s, it makes it more difficult to do that.

Nah, they just prioritise Edwards. If he's fit and in the VFL, he plays "first ruck".

If Stanley is in the same team, he plays mostly up forward or down back while giving Edwards a chop out in the ruck for 5-10 minutes each quarter.

Easy.

The cunrow trade could only happen if Marshall doesn’t get traded in using our first pick…that pick and O.henry and maybe another player I could see might do it (not confident)

It would mean that we get Marshall for something else or we roll the dice on Stanley and Blitz next year and try again in the next trade period for a back up ruck ect

If we have a workable option to trade in Curnow (who reportedly is willing to take unders) within the club's usual equitable protocol, I'd say go for it. This is a recent two time Coleman medallist who could add incredible support and tutelage to Neale while also providing a ruck rotation to other aging stars (should we continue to wait for Conway and Stevens to be ready and available). It may also support Neale to have shorter bursts up the ground in a ruck role where he could hone his craft and we could exploit his athleticism which may also generate transition into life after Blicavs.

Seriously?

It takes more than 6 players to make a forward line.

Miers has been playing more midfield this year, and may take another step in that direction next year (which makes sense given his one-wood is delivering the ball inside 50 moreso than kicking the goals himself).

Danger is still at his best in the midfield. At 36yo he's miss a few games next year and for the rest of the time he'll likely rotate between midfield and forward line.

And don't forget that next year we have 5 on the bench, meaning that at any point in time there is likely to be at least one forward with his arse attached to the pine.

Jezza roams up the field regularly. Neale subs in the ruck from time to time.

There is PLENTY of room.

And when we're talking about a forward the calibre of Curnow, well... he just gives oppo defences a completely new and scary (for them) set of problems to lose sleep over. And lose sleep they will.

Bottom line: if we can get him for a bargain salary (apparently he's willing to take a pay cut) and his body holds up, we'd be stupid to pass him up.

As many have pointed out before me, the only problem is our ability to do the deal, and I agree with most who say that we should NOT sell the farm for him. Holmes is just stupid talk, if that's Carlton's price then fine, see ya later.

But if we can get him for a reasonable price trade-wise - whatever that is - then we should be tripping over ourselves to sign on the dotted line.
