The suggestion is it's for a midfielder - thinking that rules out Curnow

Maybe Carr is somewhat open to trading Butters this year and setting something out a standard of his expectations for the team going forward - if you don't want to be playing for Port then they're happy to move you on for the right price and build around players who want to wear the guernsey

Geez if we got Worpel, Marshall and Butters for SDK and a whole heap of picks, I'd lose my banana and put money on us for the flag.
3 players who instantly fill holes/roles we need filled.

He was a liability in every game of the finals series. Put a line through him. He is awful when it matters

Look neale is too often unfairly judged against Hawkins who will be a future HOF. He doesnt need to be that he just needs to be a serviceable cog.
I think he has had a good year realistically and I wouldn't be turfing him simply because good key forwards are the hardest and most expensive thing to trade in. Who are you going to replace him with at a feasible cost who would be better? (Curnow is not a feasible cost)
But next year he needs to take steps forward if hes going to be a really good player.

If we are trading out SDK we better be bringing a player in that same trade period. You do not want to turn SDK into picks and then just hold picks for a year

Agreed and especially not picks in compromised drafts.
This is why given we know butters wont move this year we are better to wait 12 months-trade sdk as a pre agent next year when we can get butters-so we have certainty.

If rumours of SDK to the Saints for Marshall and a pick (first round SURELY), and the light whisper of bundling that pick, our first this year and first next year for a player, who could that be?
Curnow would warrant that currency, Butters probably the same but think he waits another season.
Who else could the Cats be targeting if said rumours are true?

Tbh if st kilda are asking for sdk then its just their way of deciding not to trade marshall at all by making the price too high.
Their p7 will go on Flanders and other players and you'd never accept marshall and a future 1st for sdk especially when butters isn't available yet.

It’s a nice thought and I’m firmly in the camp of keeping SDK..but you would think that scenario is highly unlikely but yes it would require trading out a player or two to work

The thing that will be turning people's eye with Clark is that coming into the season even his biggest fans would have said on ball or bust.

This finals series they're have just been a few glimpses that he could rotate to half back and not be the designated opposition scoring corridor

Yeah I agree. Look there were a couple of times where his lack of height and strength in 1 v 1s deep got exploited (which was more our lack of pressure up field to support defence) but in general his decision making and ball use was better than i thought it would be in defence (and we know he has the tenacity to be a defender) so maybe that's his role in the short term.

For me his kicking was more composed I thought.

Put ina good off season in the gym and see where it takes him

A prominent Swans ITK poster has stated Curnow will nominate the Cats tomorrow.

Make of that what you will, absolutely no idea how it gets done.

Since you're here, and I don't know how invested you are, but let's pretend that happens.
What gets it done?
I can't see it personally, and I don't think we have any value for the blues in players or picks unless we are willing to say goodbye to an SDK or similar type.

Genuinely can't think of any deal that suits the Blues from a Cats perspective.

I am a huge fan of players like Mannagh and Miers and have long lauded their skill vs our own shite smalls, but if we lose Curnow we really should be heading to youth and the draft as our strategy, which sort of rules those players out as viable trade options.

Seen the SDK rumour pop up on the Saints board a couple days ago which would give the swans some trade currency, but then again... The Saints are spending all their picks getting Leek, Flanders, Ryan etc.

The only way I can see it getting done is if there's multiple players going out the door to other clubs for picks that get on traded to Carlton for Curnow.

Either that or some sort of three way trade for a big name from somewhere.

Without going to much into what's happening off field, we'll have something of a better understanding of what his 2026 could look like come November when the committal hearing resumes and the judge will decide if there's sufficient evidence for the case to go to trial
Has he been training in full capacity this year?? He will have some serious fitness issues i imagine and may be a shadow of himseld

Are we really going to trade SDK? Won't we need a tall defender to replace him?

Also, on Neale - 45 games - 68 goals. Played 5 finals - 5 goals
Tom Hawkins - 45 games - 61 goals. First 5 finals - 5 goals.

He's been spotted in training footage and the very very limited/odd training photo going back May - he could even be spotted in group running footage from last week

So there'll be a level of fitness maintained, but 12 months of no matches could be telling - especially if the off field issues continue into 2026 and it's another extended period out of the game... Pending the result going in his favour

If those off field things don't go in his favour, then yeah none of the training will matter

This is getting very OT and you may choose to delete this post but based on what has been reported from the commital hearings including from police, I wouldn't be surprised if the matter is completely resolved in November.

Brisbane will be very hard to beat...

They have very elite academy and F/S picks who will have another pre season under their belts in

Ashcroft W+L, jaspa fletcher (underrated imo), annable will slot in for 15-20 a game similar to ashcrofts.

Throw in the improvements of lohman, + allen and draper arriving..

Its a bloody elite side with probably a best 28-30 as opposed to best 23.

They also have coleman to come in, doedee if fit, and jack payne..

They also dont need lachie neale firing whatsoever imo.

I dont rate fagan much as a coach, but i think he is an incredible people manager and has established an environment the players love and want to be apart of.

Is that a conclusion based on what you've read, or is there a little 'itk' in there too?

Just what I've read, but police publicly casting doubt on an accuser's version of events probably isn't a good sign for the accuser.

There were also some ITKs on here a few months ago confident the matter would be resolved this year (seemed to be around the time TB started being spotted at training) which matches up with the emergence of evidence that has been presented by witnesses during the committal hearings process.

Interesting if Curnow publicly nominates Geelong, and only Geelong, that means he and his management believe a deal can be done. They would only think this if Geelong have given assurance they believe they can satisfy Carlton.

If this plays out, something tells me we're prepared to give up a player or two of value to the Blues or another club.

Interesting. I just can't see it personally, but if we get nominated and only us, that is indeed very interesting.

I've said it elsewhere and to other people, their FS/academy pick ups are akin to the Cats in 06 getting Hawkins for cheap.
Except they were a top side when they got Ashcroft, then were winning flags while doing it again and again and again almost in a row. Imagine the out cry if the Cats were a prelim team in 06, got Hawkins in the draft for nothing, won the flag in 07 then did it again.... then again..... and then again.

Found the posts WalshistheGOAT was referring to:

I spoke to someone ITK about the Charlie situation.

100% wants to leave Carlton.

100% wants to get to Geelong. That’s where his heart is. Sydney / GC are a distant second.

I left thinking it’s Geelong or bust.

and:

Apparently will nominate the cats tomorrow

I find the whole thing bizarre - we need another mid or ruck far more than Curnow (as good as he is) and in any case Carlton would want a haul not far removed from what we traded for Jezza and I can't see any way we could do it.

Surely he wouldn't publicly nominate us without some level of agreement between the two clubs, so I'll believe it when I see it.
