If we're trading players out we'd want to make sure we're getting better as a team for it in return, pretty big step backwards if we lose Stengle and Manna.
If we lose Stengle then you have to commit Danger to both permanent forward, and a preseason of goal kicking practice.

Stengle had a bad year but is about to turn 27 and even as bad as he was still kicked 34.32 and had 24 goal assists. Would be difficult to find someone to fill that void from anyone. Unique skillset.

Agree. I’d be prepared to trade Mannagh for the right price (a first rounder). He’s fantastic but I think we need to capitalise on his increased value.
He also is making up for lost time and deserves a bigger pay day than we can offer
Winning a premiership would be nice but at his stage of life setting up his family with a career contract is better

SDK hasnt been the same since he broke his jaw. It would probably be best for both parties for him to get a fresh start elsewhere now, i agree with others here when they say he looks disinterested or lacking motivation.

So with that: Trade SDK to Saints for Marshall and a first rounder. If we can move some picks into next years draft via this trade then that might be a good secondary outcome from this trade for us.

Package the Saints first + our first this year and dangle it in front of Port to convince them to move Butters a year before they get bugger all for him when he leaves as a Free Agent.

Bring Worpel in as a Free agent.

Then if we get 1 of Bruhn/Guthrie back then we are adding that player + Worpel, Butters and Marshall into a midfield that is already pretty good. That gives us the depth we need in there to attack Brisbane again.

Given we are clearly in the "window" now, then bringing Kolo into that defence at his age isnt the worst move in the world, and it gives us another 2-3 years to find a replacement via the draft. I always forget that Kolo isnt that old still, even though it feels like he has been around for ages.

Just my thoughts on what id like to see this trade period given current rumours.

You only do that trade if butters has committed to coming this year and port have agreed to take our picks in the same week (unlikely).
There is zero point trading sdk for future picks and then finding out next year butters is going to the dogs and we are stuck with picks in a compromised draft.

He does but I would think with what his wife has been through mental health wise he would be reluctant to uproot family wise and move unless the money is absolutely life changing for them. Eg if we offer him 700 next year (say what we offered stengle as a yardstick) and some other club offers 800 he isnt going for that-the money would need to be way higher to get him to do it.

Didn't know about his wife.
You'd think he'd get extra $ and year/s if he committed elsewhere though?
But we all have different motivations I guess

If we trade SDK - who is playing on Darcy, Thilthorpe, McKay, King x2, Larkey, Treacy etc next season?

IF it happened, which I doubt, COS, Henry, Zuthrie more than covers any requirements.
We had that when SDK was rucking, and we'd all expect COS to get better and better with experience.
It becomes a hole more in a few years time when those other guys start to retire or start to lose form.

Agree, plus Blitz may play more defence in his last 2 or so years..

Everyday of the week, of course only if he wants to go but SDK for Marshall who was an AA level ruckman and Curnow an A grade forward for one defender we can cover for. Who's passing on that?
How does our system function with three KPF and a single true KPD sized player who's still just a kid?

I reckon COS is going to be a star but asking him to play one out on those key forwards at age 20 (he’ll turn 21 next May) would be an absolute disaster.

Darcy is 208 centimetres. Do we think there won't be anyone else like him in the next ten years?

If De Koning were to leave, our next tallest defender would be O'Sullivan at 198.

Sarah has been pretty open about her battle with PNP (and I respect that a lot too) so even though shaun is from nsw originally id suspect any move would be a family decision. The family culture at our club is probably worth a fair bit to him. No doubt this is his last big contract (he would want 4 or 5 years either way) but I think another club would have to offer a lot more $ than us i dont see him leaving for close to the same money unless we Lowball him.

We Know that Duncan Guthrie will retire Bews will be granted a club of his choice, we will need to elevate Clohesy, which will leave Ivisic (likely to be delisted) Retschko, Wiltshire, Stevens, and Pike to either resign or delist.

I'd keep Stevens over Clohesy.

Thought Retschko had a decent first season. Some great games in the VFL, some quieter ones, but worth another season at the very least.

It’s a pretty simple answer and remarkable people want to trade SDK

Our backline is the most settled area of the team for the long-term IMO.

SDK, COS, J Henry, Zuthrie and Humphries should all be together for the next 6+ years (Henry and Zuthrie the oldest and they both only recently turned 27). Stewart and Kolo (injuries permitting) should still have 2+ years each left.

I know people have been unhappy with SDK's form since 2022 but I think his return to the team after his shoulder injury this season was his best run of form in years. Very solid in all three finals - cannot fault him.

Willingly choosing to break this up would be crazy IMO.

Who cares about Marshall. We won’t spend big on a ruck.. Brisbane and Geelong have very average rucks and both obviously in the GF. We just need a tap ruck man and spend more on a mid bull.

Between Kolo and Blitz we'd be ok. I think the real issue is whether we are able to pressure the good midfields of the comp to turn it over to them, especially if it means losing blitz from the middle.

In a world where we get all the targets being mentioned in Curnow, Marshall, Worpel by trading out picks and SDK, we then have to drop a forward and a mid plus Stanley with Kolo in for SDK.

In one scenario where we drop like for like in the fwd line it's Neale going out. Between the 4 rucks Blitz would be the only one still in the team meaning Marshall has to ruck 68% of all ruck contests. If Blitz goes down then we're rucking Jack Henry for the chop out. So that's not ideal.

Another scenario is we drop a small and keep Neale which is better for chopping out ruck contests but then we lose a ground level player and pressure fwd, taking away from our whole brand of front half turnover and also leaking a few entries the other way.

It's only a couple of changes but we would look so different i struggle to imagine what our brand would look like.

We can't rely on Stanley (who'll be 35 before next season starts), a broken down Conway and an untried Edwards if we want to challenge next year. Brisbane won the flag with two average rucks this year but will add Sam Draper next year.

Scott has never liked rucks unless they contribute more than just taps, no way we'd go after a Reeves from Hawthorn as an example. Marshall is the perfect fit for a Scott team, competent but not dominant in the middle, but an extra midfielder when the ball is on the ground and can pinch hit forward or back.

If we can find a way to get him by giving up our first rounder and not much more, we should jump at it. I am hoping our first rounder will be a valuable asset for the Saints who look like trading in multiple players (Flanders, Ryan, Aleer etc).
