The GF was disapointing after a couple of good finals wins. I felt we were exposed by a lack of inside mids, a good ruck and a 3rd marking forward. I am totally on board with getting Worpel to help with the inside, hopefully Marshall as a Chris Scott style ruck. Both those look achievable. Hopefully our young mids continue to develop.

Talking about getting Curnow as a marking forward is pure fantasy and I really hope Mackie and Wells are being realistic about this.

I would love us to add JUH to our list. I dont care about his issues, I care that he can play and could fit into a forward line with both Scratch and Jez. I realise there is plenty of people who think he will be a train reck. But not everything posted on the internet, including this site, is true. Geelong seems a better fit for him the the Gold Coast or Sydney. Landing JUH seems a much more realistic project than pretending we can get Curnow, no matter how much he wants to come.
I’m surprised his name (Jamarra) hasn’t been connected with us, it seems a very Geelong move.

SDK a getting a lot of air time off the back of one Big Footy poster mentioning his name as a possible trade option.

I’d be bitterly disappointed if a Sam DeKoning trade was entertained. As previous posters have mentioned, we have one of the very few defenders capable of matching up on the giant forwards of the competition (Darcy, Kings, etc).

Just kept his highly promising opponent goalless in a GF drubbing too for those ready to tell the world he’s been a bust since 22.
I want to keep him as well. A lot would have to happen for SDk to move and I'm only reporting on St Kilda's end. They wont chase him if Wilkie stays

Did he have a single goal kicked on him during the finals? Chol was his opponent for most of the prelim, he kicked one goal in the last quarter but was matched up on Zuthrie at the time.

I reported here a month or two back after the night club incident that I was told Geelong hasn't ruled him out. It might still be the case

Ya might be right there.

Geez he’s harshly marked, especially in here. Set the bar too high too early possibly. What nearly every club would do to have SDK and Sullivan locked away in their backline for the next ten years.

It’s a great move by the Saints if that’s what they are angling for. I love what they are doing with their list at the minute. If I was a supporter I’d love that they are having a crack and not sitting on their hands.

Thought Retschko had a decent first season. Some great games in the VFL, some quieter ones, but worth another season at the very least.
I'd keep Retshko too. I don't think he's got star potential, but he could be a handy Blake Acres or Sam Menegola type in a year or two.

Sure, that level of player doesn't get the juices flowing, but when we've already got one of the best offensive wingmen in the game in Dempsey, a hard working defensive bail out option opposing him isn't the worst idea.

We'd never do it, as it's just not the Geelong way, but I'd be delisting KMF with the list spot squeeze we've got at the moment.

Just doesn't have it IMO. Elite peg on him, but it means nothing if you're allergic to the footy.

Unfortunately, accumulation is an innate trait. You can't really develop it, you've either got it or you don't - and if you don't have it, you better be a Rayner or Rioli type who really make them count.

Does trading Stengle for Curnow make us a better team?

A forward line of Curnow, Cameron, Neale, and Dangerfield is too top-heavy.

Even if Danger comes off the bench and plays a limited role next year.

Small forwards are crucial to the modern-day game with high transition footy.

We need to prioritise getting Marshall and Worpel.
Agree. If Curnow came to Geelong Neale is either playing ruck or VFL

I don't like the idea of Curnow, not only getting a deal done but how he would even fit in our best 22?

Maybe I need to go and look at some YouTube highlights of him at his peak, but in my mind our forward line is not the issue. We need midfielders and a ruckman.

I assume if we get curnow that neale would be used more in the ruck (at least in the short term). But we wont get curnow so i think its a moot point.

Yes it’s crazy talk. This is the trade season where any player gets shafted.

Unless they want to go, there’s nothing we can do.

So unless there’s any change on that front, the names being thrown up are irrelevant.

Who cares about Marshall. We won’t spend big on a ruck.. Brisbane and Geelong have very average rucks and both obviously in the GF. We just need a tap ruck man and spend more on a mid bull.
Brisbane are so stacked in the midfield that it just doesn't matter. It's up there as one of the greatest ever.

Neale, Washcroft, Dunkley, McCluggage, Lashcroft, and Berry.

Rayner, Fletcher, Bailey and potentially Marshall would be starting midfielders for just about any other side, but they're so stacked they can use them in other areas. Annable to come in a month or two as well.

We just don't have that depth. Nobody does.

Holmes, Smith, and Dempsey get a game in that group, and maybe Atkins at a stretch. After that, we just can't compare the two.

No shame in it. Nobody can, but it doesn't mean we should follow their lead.

They spent a top 10 on tauru last year and they spent big money on silvagni and aleer. Sdk is a luxury compared to fixing their midfield. (Wilkie wont leave either).
If I was Wilkie I'd leave for the same reason Marshall wants out. He's one of the premium KPDS in the AFL and they're bringing in player with half his talent on more money. He has been offered good money by doggies.
Would be many disgruntled players at Saints

Baz's social media is winning Mad Monday so far.
Yeah after each post he tags "time to put the phone away" ;) Steven Hocking will be like the proverbial cat on a hot tin roof waiting for social media updates on Baz's posting. Get down there for gods sake and confiscate his phone.

Loved the response from Baz to the Ollie Dempsey post arriving in the Aston Martin ........"hey Charlie Curnow, we'll get the chopper in next year".

Because there's a tipping point. We've just had year of Smith, Stengle, KMF, Bruhn and even our coach all in the headlines regularly for being dickheads.

I'm not going full Lauren Wood here and suggesting a culture issue. None of these incidents are back breaking in isolation.

But the point is more so that we're not a rehab clinic, and with the likes of Selwood, Taylor, Ablett, Hawkins, Smith, and so on still at the club, we could probably get away with it.

Family focused old dudes who could set the standards, and do their best to instill guidance to a few lost souls.

With an increasingly young and impressionable group, I don't know, the risk feels greater.

We're not talking about a bloke who likes a few too many froffies. He's doing his best Gangitano impersonation.

I fear Chris Scott may have a nervous breakdown if we added JUH to the mix

Said similar to a mate of mine, line up the lions best 23 assuming no injuries, add the players they look to be getting, now go to any other teams list and find players who would walk into the lions 23.
There really aren't many at all. At the Cats I have maybe 6, Holmes, Smith, Dempsey, Jez, Stewart and probably Blicavs.
Most other clubs would have sub 4 or worse.
The other way? I could almost name a dozen Lions who'd walk into the Cats 23.
Stacked is putting it nicely, I don't even think our Great team of 07-11 had their kind of depth.

....And to think we're probably the second best team. The talent gap they've got is enormous.

I called it a couple years ago, and it's just kept snowballing. The Suns will be the same now that Hardwick and the FD can actually create a culture that gets them to stay.

The AFL has created a monster, but hey, if those two are tossing the cup back and forth every year for the next five, that's okay with them.

It's money in their pocket, and the game's being grown in a new frontier. Everyone else is expendable.
