I don't see the big deal with running a Blicavs/SDK or Blicavs/Neale ruck set up at times next year. I don't want to see us overplay Stanley. 10 games maybe.

When it comes to Curnow, it's crazy how Carlton were seemingly outraged at us offering three first round picks yet that's exactly what they accepted from Sydney (but with the addition of Hayward).

As for St Kilda, they've made their bed (not just with us) and now they have to live with the consequences of that...

Disappointing that we couldn’t land either.

Brisbane, Gold Coast, and GWS all nailed the trade period - they’ll be very hard to beat next year.

We’ve improved slightly with Worpel and Bruhn, but the lack of a quality ruckman still hurts.

I wanted Marshall as well but we offered as much as we could. A first was enough and we offered a second as well.

Offering even more would have been insanity.

And none of our players wanted to leave

That's the reality yes. They weren't ever going to deal with Geelong and they had this dumb idiotic fascination with Hayward and florent as they tried to get both last year.

If we take it as true that our offer was 3 first rounders for just Curnow (with nothing coming back the other way) as was reported, then it is a shocking deal. As has been said here though, it smells of clubs simply saying "we wont deal with Geelong". Carlton couldve gotten 3 firsts from us for Curnow and kept everything else they have now sent to Sydney. I cant fathom how that is a better deal for them than what we offered.

Stanley wont play much. Minimal games as part of rotation at best. You will probably see sdk rucking a fair bit and possibly neale too. Edwards wont be ready so thats what I expect.

On a serious question. Does anyone know of the best ruckman playing State League this year?

One of the best was Reeves but hes listed. Him and Moyle were both dominant. If youre talking not on an afl list crossley was ok (but we wont take him) and Boyd was pretty good the year before before he went to st kilda. I didnt mind Cooper Keogh before he got injured but I wouldn't take him now.

I'm interested in this new narrative of Blicavs being "battered" in 2025. He moved as well as he has in years, had some of his best ever ruckman games and played 25 times.

I guess some people have a different definition of battered to me.

Yep. Unless they rate Hayward massively (in which case they are stupid) they just didnt want to deal with us out of spite.

It is a big deal as the club wanted Marshall as well as the above but Mackie couldn’t get him without paying an over the top price.

Listening to Ross Lyon and his plans for 2 rucks (which i disagree with) i dont think they were trading him even if we offered the future 1st so that makes me happier. We did all we could do.

This is the only conclusion. Once they said they weren’t trading him unless we offered something ridiculous - which was never happening - that was the end of it. They were simply never serious about trading him.
