2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

Let's just say I spoke to him on the phone. My good mate played Jets with him.
Friend of mine that is good friends with he's dad basically said he's coming to the Cats earlier this year, dont know anything outside of that. I may have put it on the board earlier this year

Would like to trade up and try and pinch Josh Lindsay in the draft. Projected around 11th

I think Wells and Co would back themselves in to pick talent from where our picks are and not have to give up extra just to move up slightly.

We need picks for next year when Walsh and Butters become available.

I live a km away from his parents. 😉

I don't see him as inside mid at least not for a while. I think he is struggles with finding his identity in there for the moment.

I see him as a rebounding half back flanker, like adding another Humphries

I think his athleticism is underrated, he isn't one of those vanilla one pace mids.

If we get him at 40 I'll be dancing.
Something in the Jasper Fletcher mould.

I'd be happy to take him. Just feels like he's going to fall inbetween our picks a bit. Probably doesn't get to 40, and might be a tad early at 19.

If they rate him though, they'll do it.

Absolutely no way is he any near Petraccas level as a junior. Petracca would go number 1 in this draft and is levels above anyone else when he was a junior
I've known Petracca since he was a kid at primary school and have watched his career with huge interest. Sullivan is near that innate talent level, as an U18 player, not saying anything more.

He wants us.
Is that the same as a few months ago though, where it's under the condition we match the Dogs money?

I don't doubt that he'd be happy to come here, but we need to pick up the tab for once, and if there's a player to break it for - it's Butters.

That's not just because he's available, either. If you could pick any player in the league right now who suits exactly what we need to win a flag, it's him.

Jasper Fletcher is an elite talent, and will win a B&F for Brisbane sooner than later

You don't need to tell me. I think he can be this generation's equivalent of Luke Hodge, and will probably captain Brisbane one day.

A player comparison doesn't equate to them being exactly that player. Just that they're developed in the same positional pathway.

assume you mean potential to be better than this current version of Trac?
Trac is maybe the best mid/fwd junior prospect theres been.
and people forgetting how good he was at his best.
Watched him (CP)dominate in his years with Eastern Ranges, and players, parents and staff just gazed in amazement.

We can afford the 2mil a year. Hes the player id break the policy and pay it for.

At this point get Goldy.. ask him for 14 games and he doesn’t play vfl but he’s on close to mimimim chips.

Stanley and Blitz can cover the rest of the rotations with Neale and SDK covering from and back Halves.

Not great but prob best option if we need to go with a ruck not on our list

Go Catters
Pointless IMO.

Journeymen rucks are nothing but list cloggers.
Back in Conway and Edwards and play Stanley and Blicavs if need be.

Bews get… Guthrie.. I just can’t see it.. 3 years no games and can’t get on the track rally let alone game conditions.

I’m all for. Giving him his chances.. and Josh Cowan got 7 years on the list.. but maybe if wants a rookie spot?

Go Catters
I get it.

All year the rhetoric has been about how weak this draft will be, and trade period showed that. 2025 picks after 10 were treated like the bubonic plague. Every club was trying to flog them off, and no one would touch them without a 30ft pole.

So if this draft is so weak and clubs will be looking at taking less players at draft time then IMO Cam Guthrie sans 3 years of football is a better punt than some late draft kid in a shit year.

Feel free to ask him about how Geelong is supposed to get him over the line (trade or FA wise).
Probably the Charlie Curnow offer + a bit extra? He's not contracted but is a top 5 midfielder in the league with plenty of A grade football ahead of him.

As for the contract offer I'm not sure. But we should break the bank. He will keep us contending alongside Smith and Holmes IMO. A competitive beast with skills on a much higher level than those two.

If our biggest weakness is our midfield, how does a 33yr old who hasn't played senior football in over 500 days and just the 10 matches across the last 1100+ days, address the weakness?
It’s a free hit. At his best he was an AA caliber midfielder. He will be on minimal coin also and taking up a list spot of nobody else important incoming.

I think it’s a low risk move and let him go on if he wants to and his body is ready to give pre season a try

...
Maybe our ruckman has been under our noses all this time.
:100: From my prior post in a locked thread
Maybe the prototypical rucks CS seeks, are right under our noses (SNeale and/or SDK). Maybe tenderfoots getting experience rucking is fraught with injuries whereas, importing footy-hardened forwards/defenders into rucking is not (like using simulators to train novice pilots rather than in-situ).

From the article..
“Credit to St Kilda, they didn’t want to let him go. We felt an openness early, but last few days they shifted and didn’t want to move him,” Trotter said.
He is a suck-up.
  1. His client had one request 2 years running (get me to the Cats).
  2. His client's stock will plunge (playing out of position, second fiddle to TDK and do housekeeping that TDK (despite on 2x pay) won't).
  3. St. Kilda behaved like a shyster during this (shifting goalposts, shafting Leek etc.).
Yet he begins "Credit to St. Kilda.."

IF (big if) we could land Butters, and Conway's body comes good, we'd have a prime aged midfield set up for a while.

2027-2029 midfield (age in brackets):

R: Conway (23-25) Smith (26-28) Butters (26-28)
C: Dempsey (23-25) Bruhn (25-27) Holmes (24-26)

Rotations: Miers (28-30) Mannagh (29-31) Worpel (28-30)

Not every player has to be a superstar but overall that's a good mix of attributes, with much more depth than our 2024-2025 midfields.

While the peanut gallery is celebrating our loss in the battle (Trade period just past), we might still win the war. I can then scream "Suck it, Haters!"
